    Probably it tries to comply with American With Disabilities Act. Which will require certain things to make it easier on screen readers. So that adds a bit of complexity. But its a good thing.

    I watched attack of the Sabretooth. I also watched something horrible on FX last night about a giant mummy. I like the Sci Fi channel and probably 40% of their shows which is an incredible number in comparison to other TV channels.

    However, if I had to pay for it like HBO or Showtime, etc. I would have to put more pressure on them to make better shows. But since I don't, they are fine with me.

    This whole premise is flawed. If the project is successful, won't it garner paid staff? You need to show that projects without paid staff are _not_ successful.

    Furthermore, any open source project that makes a name for itself will attract opportunistic commercial entities.

    Question: Are there more projects that started open source then attracted commercial support, or that started commercial with support, then turned open source?

    Its resonable to assume they wanted it to be found. In todays game development climate I doubt they could have coded this on their own in renegade fashion. Im sure it was budgeted.

    Can't blame ESRB. Its what happens when the fox is guarding the hen house. Typically when the fox asks you say no. But politicians have their own way of thinking.

    Corporate types have been successful in convencing the average person that they run stuff better than Government. So people keep pushing privitization to their own detriment. (fire the city workers, then pay for their welfare)

    They forget that government pays more for each worker, corporations just take all the profits to the people on the top. When people see the guy on the bottom makin money they claim he don't deserve it and its waste. But when the guy on the top does, they don't complain.

    Its whack. Besides, every new business should expect to loose money its first several years...

    For sure. IMHO the EPL or Eclipse license is worse than the GPL. It suffers from a similar issue as well.

    The result is you should put your library / interface code in the LGPL, and your core code in the GPL or EPL.

    One thing people are also missing here is when commercial entities contribute to the development of the code as well. In this case they may prefer the GPL. Often when they contribute they are using the code in-house, and the GPL is much less restrictive then anyway.

    Actually connections go both ways. So if your device is being connected with by some foreign AP you could claim they are trying to illegally intercept your transmissions.

    Super fast delivery is very much not the purpose of BT. If you knew anything about the protocol you would know this. The primary purpose is peer to peer delivery, with a secondary goal being speed.

    If you are tryin to say the primary purpose of bittorrent is to distribute the load of file distribution, then that would be true. Speed is no more the concern of the bittorrent protocol than it is for the FTP or TCP protocols.

    It's architecturally impossible for a protocol design like torrent's to compete with a direct tcp protocol assuming the sender of the direct file has enough bandwidth.

    Right, but as long as bandwidth is not unlimited the more efficient user of it will be the better performer.

    Grokster (and its workalikes) is designed, advertised, and used as a way of illegally distributing copyrighted materials. The court just found that if you run a service designed to help people break the law that you will have some amount of responsibility in the acts.

    You were correct up to this point. It disagrees with your point #1. The courts findings have to do with how you market your product, not how you design it.

    You need to understand more about stocks. The dollar value can not be considered in isolation of many other facts. Such as liquidity and market capitalization.

    I would in fact say the liquidity is more important than the dollar value because the liquidity is an indication of how fast you can get your money back if you blow a trade.

    Its just not that simple. But then again this is extremely rich company. Lets just cut to the chase, there is no way this mistake was possible at this company.

    Yea the part i don't like is that the police/fbi dont work for his company. So why would they participate in this? They certainly are not compelled to and should have been able to find many flaws. Why should they be the puppet for some random corporation?

    Why do folks do shit like this? If i were a police officer I would scoff at this. Or at least get someone qualified to evaluate.

    Sure its slow to start because ther is a 2nd process. But Java 1.5 addresses this to some degree. As for inconvient GC cycles, that is the programmers fault. You have to do your own GC when you think you have time. The JVM will only GC when its full...

    NOT FREE: well there are free jvms but there is still catching up to do and as they get better they will undoubtablly suffer the same issue as wine, most stuff will work but there will be slight differences that fuck over some apps.
    You mean like Microsoft tried?

    the fact that languages like java allow poor coders to produce code that kind of works rather than total failures probablly doesn't help the languages reputation either.

    Think for a second of the credibility AMD would gain if Apple used their processors. This Apple decision is goign to pit AMD vs. Intel in a dogfight for years to come. Remember, the architecture is the same, Apple can essentially switch at any time.

    Amazon sent me a double order once. They refused to take the second order back claiming I ordered it twice. Basic web technology should have prevented this. In fact there was no indication of order completion, no email acknowledgement.

    No their customer service is not always good.

    Plus they put insulting things in books I order saying the book isnot up to their standards. Then the go on to send me information on books they thik are related to this sub-standard book, and most of them are truly substandard. Illustrates their database of knowledge is based on book titles and not book content.

    Exactly what happens when you use info from user searches and not true user feedback...

    While the conductivity of a lamp cord is probably sufficient, the quality of a cable is rarely related to its conductivity today.

    Connectors, and shielding make a good connection system.

    On speakers the voltage is sufficiently high that you dont need shielding since the noise will be hidden by the sound. But you still can use a quality conector so you dont loose volts tere.

    But on component level connections where the voltage is lower, you definitely want something shielded.

    And as for optical connections, they are all pretty equal.

    Still I would never buy a monster cable or anything else made by monster. maybe its time for a new Monster ad campaign. They are not just expensive, they are way over-expensive.

    Then you missed the point. The JVM itself optimizes for you. I still fail to understand how people think they can write faster code in less time in c/c++ when java itself is just another c/c++ program that is handling many other tasks for you.

    If you would say in the long run you can manually optimize a c/c++ program to give you more speed, then I would say ok. But for me, I have a team of engineers working to make my program faster for me. They are called JVM developers.

    Java is simply a c/c++ program that does a lot of things for you and is written and maintained by someone else.
