Everyone I know pays to watch T.V. There are channels that you can get off of broadcast but up here in the Rockies the reception sucks. Therefore everyone either has satellite or cable. If I am already paying to watch the program why should I have to sit through commercials in addition?
You just have to love people that pipe up with no clue.
Sherlock came out before Watson. Watson cried a bit when Sherlock was updated but then went on to make a better product.
Konfabulator was not first. Apple had desktop widgets quite some time ago. Not to mention Stardock, Karamba and lots of others.
SoundJam was purchased to become iTunes.
LiteSwitch was implementing a feature that used to exist in System 9 and disappeared in OS X. Apple merely added the feature back in. Even without LiteSwitch command-tab worked, the functionality was simply enhanced with the latest version of OS X.
Konfabulator and LiteSwitch are simply a case of outside developers filling a hole that was obvious. OS X did not hit the shelves as a complete operating system. Every version that has been released has added features back in that were missing. Sometimes these features step on a developer's toes. It is sad, but it happens and it should be expected. These developers should be happy they got paid while the feature was missing and move on to the next big thing. It is unrealistic to think that a simple little toy program is going to be a permanent cash cow.
If Longhorn came out without Active Desktop and then put it back in at a future date, would anyone cry foul? This is the exact same situation.
These developers need to face the facts. Their implementation is a copy of an idea that has been around since the 80s. Their implementation is bloated and runs like crap. I know, I used to run their software until I realized it was slowing down both my cpu and my gpu, then I junked the entire mess.
Let them move over to windows, they will be right at home.
I know this is/. and all but a little research can go a long way. Konfabulator was hardly first. Apple as well as many people on the Linux and Windows side had this long before Konfabulator ever hit the streets.
This guy is just crying and making noise. He should be ignored.
No one is forcing you to buy an Apple product. If you can find something cheaper somewhere else that does what you need it to do then do it. No one will tell you are wrong for doing it.
However, telling everyone that you think Mac's are a "very expensive doorstop" in a business setting just shows your lack of knowledge. I write code for a living and shudder at the thought of being forced back onto a Windows machine. Fortunately the companies I contract with don't care what operating system I use as long as the code works. There are many other people in my line of work who us Apple computers instead of Windows. Or perhaps we are all glorified graphic artists?
Apple computers have their place. I see people in every part of the corporate infrastructure using them day in and day out and very happy about it. Just because you don't feel they are a good deal does not make it so.
As for your price comparison, no one every said that Apple computers compete at the bottom of the price brackets. Never have, doubt they ever will. However, when you compare mid-range and high end systems, that is where the deal is to be made. Dell competes at the bottom, Apple competes at the top.
Is there a significant/noticible difference between a Powerbook which costs $1599 or $1799 and a similarily priced Windows laptop?
Yes there is a difference. I find my 1.33Ghz Powerbook to be a more efficient machine than any windows laptop I owned in the past. The multitasking of OS X blows the doors off of windows.
As a coder I have been far more productive since I "made the switch."
That is why you include the user's information when they download it. If it gets distributed you can trace it back to the original distributor and attack him personally. eBooks do this and they seem to be doing just fine.
Nothing is ever 100% but I think this might deter the average thief, especially when their name and CC number is imbedded inside of the app!
Have you considered producing two versions of the software? Providing a scaled down version for the trial and then after purchase the users download the full version.
Seems to me this would drastically reduce the piracy. Especially if you include the user's information in the full version that they download.
Some iBooks have some logic board problems. I would disagree that the entire line is junk. Remember, you never hear from the customers that are satisfied, only from the ones that have had problems. I would say that the percentage of people that have problems with thier iBooks is pretty low. Naturally Apple is the only one that knows for sure.
No disagreement here. Was just pointing out an alternative.
However think about this. Airport cards used to be an add on product and are now starting to become standard. I suspect that eventually the Bluetooth add-ons will be "included" as well.
Since it is VESA compliant, there are already arms out there that you can attach to this computer. Couple that with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you have one very slick little setup.
Chances are the aftermarket bluetooth usb dongles will work just fine on this. And since they are just little stubs you would not even see it back there.
I have to agree. Walking into an Apple store and looking at those new LCDs is a "wow" experience. They are truly such a clean design that others look down right ugly next to them.
Just be careful running your fingers along the edge of one. I kept putting the G5 to sleep and couldn't figure out why:)
I use the Apple bluetooth mouse all day long and it runs great. A friend of mine uses the BT400 (or is it 500) mouse with his powerbook and loves it. My wife uses MS's Bluetooth mouse and other than eating batteries like crazy, it works well.
I do not know anyone who uses the Logitech Bluetooth mouse. Everyone I know seems to agree that it is downright stupid to force a rechargable cradle with a Bluetooth mouse.
Anyone who thinks it is a good idea to code a mission critical application using Mono needs to find another job. No large company out there is going to trust a mission critical application to an untest language implementation like Mono. Perhaps in a few years but not yet.
I join you in that hope. However this site alone proves that the technical community are a lot like a small town. You are not trusted until they trust your grandfather. Same goes here, old wounds take a very long time to heal.
Let's up they keep to their promises and then perhaps sometime in the future they can be trusted again.
While their recent changes are definitely good, I think it is going to be a long time before the community at large ever trusts them again. Just because an offender claims to have reformed does not mean they won't go right back as soon as people start trusting them again.

You should upgrade to MOO3, you won't need an emulator for it.

Yes there are tools out there that let you integrate it into outlook. A simple google search will show how it is done.
Spotlight should solve both of these problems for you because you won't care what the filename is. Just search on the text you are looking for.

Seems easier to me and does not require any clicking.
Try out Unsanity's Fruit Menu if you miss the start menu. It will give you back that functionality that you are used to.

Of note, the Blue Take (BT500) mouse also has an off switch and has three buttons plus a scroll wheel.

Actually there are two but the other one only has one button...
Now will this get a funny mod or off-topic? I am betting on funny since it is off-topic

Quite accurate. I can recall several times during television shows where the actors use google in that exact form.
It is becoming synonymous with "searching".
