AmEx, at least, uses z/TPF on IBM mainframe systems. So does VISA's clearinghouse. Not to mention airlines, and big stores, and anyone else that needs to handle thousands upon thousands of transactions, day in, day out, 24 hours a day, without stopping.
If it doesn't sync with Exchange through Entourage (I refuse to run Outlook in any form), it's not useful at all. If it only syncs through Entourage, and not over the phone data connection, it's only marginally useful. It needs to sync with Exchange directly over the phone's data connection.
I couldn't find any specific compatibility info with anything but Apple's Bluetooth headset on their site, which is what prompted this comment in the first place.
Supporting BT headsets isn't enough...apparently, there are several different versions of the BT spec, with attendant incompatibilities. I had to replace my Treo 650 with the 680 when I got this car for that reason.
I'm using sync through Entourage now with my Treo 680, and it sucks. The Exchange 2003 SP1 update broke Entourage syncing; now I get hundreds of errors every time I start it up about not being able to sync back with the Exchange server. I have been totally unable to get any help with it at all, on the web or elsewhere - and support from Microsoft? Hahahaha! That also doesn't provide syncing while I'm away from my computer, or push email (I've got Chatter Email on the Treo for that, but there's no similar product for the iPhone, and no, forwarding to Yahoo! Mail is not an answer; I don't need yet another duplicate copy of my company email).
If it doesn't talk to Exchange directly (or Blackberry Enterprise Server, which they've managed to get right enough), it's a kludge, and I'm tired of kludges.
But will it talk to my car?

There are two deal-breakers for me with the iPhone: It has to sync with Exchange directly (no, not just IMAP, but calendaring as well), and it must work with my car's Bluetooth module. The former is because that's the only way I'll get my boss to let me get one instead of a Blackberry; the latter is because no $600 phone, no matter how insanely great, will get me to get rid of a $45K car.
Perhaps, perhaps not. If all you're doing is sitting, 0G/+2G isn't that strenuous - no more than a moderately sedate rollercoaster. I wouldn't expect him to go swimming about the cabin, but (assuming he has no problems with motion sickness, something he may well not have had the opportunity to find out about before now) he may not have any problems at all.
Oh yeah, Prof. Hawking's medical history shouldn't be a problem... Depends on what effect ALS has had on his body. If he's not susceptible to motion sickness, it may not be a big deal after all. Regardless, he's not getting on that 727 unless the doc clears him, and given his prominence, I'd be greatly surprised if Zero G's doc and Professor Hawking's doc weren't in close contact well before all this was announced in the first place.
I've been on that flight (courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which got to show video of me losing my lunch in return). It's a lot of fun. I hope Professor Hawking enjoys his ride.
Anyone who wants to can go on Zero G's flights, as long as they don't have a medical problem that gets in the way - and they have a doctor on staff who goes over your medical history before you go. All it takes is $3750.
Fine. Now, what happens when you don't check a bag? I don't, when I travel. That's because I carry a CPAP for treating sleep apnea. No, I'm not going to check it, any more than a diabetic would check his insulin. (Have you ever spent a week without significant sleep? I don't recommend it.)
I'm going to have to start carrying three bags when I travel: my briefcase with laptop, a carrying case for the CPAP, and the suitcase to check. Just how is this sane?
Oh, and I'm going to stop putting my street clothes on over the unitard I travel in when I get through security, since they're going to screen people at the gate, too.
Command line only. Looks like the red-headed stepchild.
What's wrong with.ZIP? Especially on a 4 MB archive, ferchrissakes? How much does it save, a few K? Why bother with something totally nonstandard to save a few K?
Check out the Icom D-Star system. It's a digital voice and data communications sysem that is routable across the Internet. It's built on open protiocols, and anyone can hack on it.
Don't believe everything you read about the Texas VHF-FM Society at the site you linked to. The whole story is at the Gang of Three site. Put simply, the bylaws amendment to allow vote by mail was adopted in violation of the Society's bylaws and Robert's Rules of Order, and was invalid; the Board merely recognized that fact.
What does all that show? Like every other kind of group of people, there are politics and infighting. Big surprise.
As for my behavior after the special meeting in Austin, I've already recognized that I was out of line, and apologized publicly for it.
No, I don't shoot people who don't threaten my life. You're just posting anonymously so you can make accusations without standing behind them.
I've been a ham for 35 years now. (Damn, I'm an old fart.) I'm still active, and am looking seriously at the Icom D-Star networked digital radio technology as the next big thing.
Get the ticket. There's a lot out there....de K5ZC
Does anyone out there aside from free software zealots truly care about this? I don't, and I do use and customize Linux kernels on other systems.
I want my desktop and laptop to work, period. Keeping them that way is Apple's problem. I pay the (really, not all that much once you compare apples to apples, so to speak) premium in price to get a system that I can plop on my desk and run without having to be constantly tweaking and hacking on it.
This might make a big splash here, but in the real world, nobody will truly care.

...is better looking than I am.
Considering what I'm paying for 8x10 color pictures, this might be a big win for me.
...they gave Sinbad another TV show?

Yup. I got so tired of getting groped by the TSA without warning that I make it obvious even to them that I'm not carrying anything on my person.

What's wrong with
The native 7Zip compressor/decompressor is for Windows. Ugh. How about a version that uses a standard, portable compression format?
Oh, right, you're too l33t for that.
Exactly. My laptop is a Mac. Even so, I do work with Windows systems, and would like to have these tools in my kit.
WTF is .7z? Is there an OS X decompressor?
It sucks down lots and lots of stuff that isn't needed, like the blog, the forum,...
A command that would suck down just the files and the associated HTML pages explaining them would be a Good THing.

I'd use "taking was was freely offered".
No, the FreeBSD code was NOT locked away. If it was, you couldn't get FreeBSD any more.

Programmers who commit atrocities like that one should be horsewhipped.
