Tumi is the way to go. I have an entire Tumi luggage set as well as loptop bag, card holder and portfolio. Very classy and made to last forever. They have a great warranty on their balistic nylon products. A little on the pricey side but they are the best quality you will find.
The biggest problem is that MS changes the file formats.
Your a small business and run Win98 machines with Office 97. Good enough you would say. That is until your largest customer is sending you files done in Office XP and you can't open them. The short term answer is to call them up and ask them to save it in an older format. Boy does that make you look like a shabby outfit. The other solution is to go out and upgrade the Office suite. Which may requrire you to upgrade the OS. Of course now you are running XP on a 200 MHZ PII and it runs like crap.
I think as a home user you can get away with an older OS but it is difficult to as a business.
Really, I am currently a beta tester for OSX Server (10.3). When they send out the latest builds they also send out the latest client (10.3 Panther) builds to test with.
I have a old bondi iMac that I use for client testing. My OSX Server is a single processor xserve. Pictures (here and here
I installed Panther on the iMac (Bondi upgraded with a 333 processor and in the iRack box), took the drive out of the iMac and put it into the beige box (lower right corner of second picture). And there runs Panther.
I have been doing this stuff for probably more years that you have been out of diapers AC so back off. For example note the pair of ANS in the second picture. I have 6 of them running AIX, LinuxPPC, Debian and YDL. I've been working on a hack to get OSX 10.2 running. So far so good as it starts to boot but hangs about 1/2 way through the boot process.
I don't believe it will not run on the beige boxes. I have the last 10.3 beta build running on a beige G3. I added a usb card to the beige box and did the initial install on a bondi iMac. Works just fine!
I think beige boxes are not officially supported but it should run.
OK, when you loose the lower channels (2-13) on your new Sony TV (Sony's always have poor shielding), your cordless phone no longer works (now you have to go buy a 2.4 GHz one that interferes with your WiFi) and all your baby monitor picks up is noise are you going to cry unfair?
Lets not forget no more AM radio. And interference is claimed to end at 60MHz. If it goes any higher say good by to FM radio. But you have no problem going out and buying a XM radio for your car right?
Ham radio is not CB, FRS or any of the other non licensed radio services. Please get your facts straight.
Oh and there are many modes of Ham Radio that are 'spectrally efficient'. Look up WJST
BTW, if this goes through and your TV is not properly shielded, when they turn the service on you may loose channels 2-13 or so. Are you going to complain then?
Obviously, if the FCC came by and there was no resolution the ham was within his rights. Not only that but his equipment was within specifications. If the FCC found a problem they would issue an Notice of Liability to the ham. If they don't comply they can be on the hook for fines in excess of $10,000
What it means is your shit equipment is not properly shielded. Ever hear of ferrite beads? Probably not. You probably pull all the shielding out of your computer cases as well. Don't complain when it accepts interference. If the interference is coming through cable (if you have it) then the cable company has a leak. Either way it is not the hams fault or problem. Check the FCC laws. Start with Part 97.
What does overpowering the rig mean? Please don't make up stuff and blame it on hams.
There are FCC regulations regarding interference. If you are having a problem I'll bet $1000 that the problem is your equipment, not the ham's. Manufacturers (especially Sony) are notorious for not properly shielding their equipment.
My favorite ham bashing story is about guy who put up a tower in his yard. A few days after it was up, the town building inspector comes by because of interference complaints (btw the town has zero juristiction over this matter). The building inspector has to laugh because the ham figured there would be fallout so he did not put any antennas on the tower. The inspector leaves and tells the ham not to worry about further complaints or problems.
This is where you are wrong. Apple is a hardware company that writes their own OS and software.
Apple makes their money on hardware sales. Period. Remeber the clone wars? Power Computing, Umax and the others qucikly developed better and more powerful machines than Apple. This almost killed them. They spent more time and money updating the OS (no profit here) while everyone purchased everyone elses hardware. if Steve Jobs had not come back in the fold and killed the clones Apple wouldn't be here today. Don't get me wrong, I was as pissed off as everyone else when the clones were killed but in the long run I now see it was the right thing to do. This same reasoning goes to why you will never see OSX on x86.
Not think with my dick? Every moment I don't have something to do, I try to squeeze in some 'other head' thinking. My wife knows this and agrees. She sees some of our (male) friends and how emsaculated they have become. She like some manly behaviour.
If your a guy and don't have the opportunity to think with your dick you might as well be dead!
Oh, I forgot the guy that started this thread lives in a perfect (fantasy land) marriage.
I've been married for five years, have a great relationship and now have a 3 mo old child. And let's not forget the large mortgage.
However, I don't think I am any more or less creative than before. What has happend is that I can not find time to implement anything. After work (only 8 hours) it is off to home to take the baby so the wife can make dinner. After cleanup and all it is aready 8 PM. Get baby to bed and hopefully get some sex! Then much needed sleep. End of day.
Now that the baby is sleeping more I get up at 2AM and catch up on all the work I was not able to do in the work day. Then I sneak back to bed before the alarm goes off at 7AM. I was used to 12+ hour work days but in order to make the wife happy I now have to keep normal hours.
Maybe I can squeeze some creativity in around 4AM? You claim you are more creaative? I don't believe it for a minute. Unless your wife is a Geek as well (or a doctor).
A woman's point of view would have been interesting. For example J.K. Rowling got married and it took an entire extra year for her to get out the new Harry Potter novel. I also did not find the book to be nearly as good as her earlier works.
I use RAV not on the desktop but on all my customers Qmail servers.
What really tweaks my mellons is that I just purchased over $800 worth of licenses in the last few months. The problem for all you not familliar with the server software is that you annually renew your license. I bet MS will honor the current license until they expire and upon trying to renew they will tell you that platform/mail server is no longer supported. Then a sales guy will contact you and try to sell you Exhange.
RedHat 9? Can someone please explain to me why this version was not a point release? Sure looks like it should have been.
Lots of probelms. Ever tried to install Zope on RH9? After many hours of wasted time I reformatted the drive and installed RH8. Done in an hour. I guess this is progress.
Actually I believe that RH is trying to force you into only installing only programs that they choose to support. If not they are going to make it harder and harder for you to compile your own versions.
I have supported RH for a long time including purchasing releases as well as some of their products like CCVS (credit card verification system) for a $1000. Of course two months later they killed the product. I called them up to find out what they were going to support as a replacement. The answer, buy a third party product. Hmm, if I had wanted an answer like that I would have purchased something else from the start. So much for integrated systems.
My question is why would the record labels even care. We all know (or have been told over and over) that Macs account for a very small market share.
I could see this coming about when the Winblows version of iTunes is released.

If I can get enough people to fund a trip to Lousiana, I will go down and personally beat the shit out of this turd. I figure it will cost me about $250 in gas. I'll cover all the other expenses.
I installed the update and after restart picked up an additional 250MB of disk space. I know this because I didn't have enough drive space (500MB) required for the system update as well as QT 6.2. I made just enough space to install the upadates and upon reboot had almost 800MB available.
The only permissions out of whack were:./System/Library/Filesystems/hfs.fs/hfs.uti,./private/var/db/locate.database and./private/var/run/utmp
I looked at this for a customer as well. If it is a new building cat5 to each condo is the way to go, Wired to a telco or utility closet into hubs/switches.
If you can't rewire then go wireless, If that is not an option then using the second pair on the existing telco wiring with dsl will work fine. However you will need a dslam with many ports and each end will need a modem. The only problem is if the resident has more than 1 phone number. Then on a case by case basis you could pull another pair.
Linux for the router with dhcp for the end point. Make sure your contract states no wireless or at least certified by you for proper setup.
This isn't hacking. The signal is broadcast in the clear. I used to do this 11-12 years ago with an inexpensive scanner, a mag mount antenna and a tnc on my old Mac ][.
The other thing worth mentioning is that these old satellites are being retired. The new higher resolution ones are being phased in over the next year or so and the transmitters on the current birds are going to be shut off. Don't run out and spend a lot of money as you will be throwing it away.

Or steal satellite. If you don't plug the phone line into the receiver they can't poll.
Now if ithey would just stop hitting the cards....

Get the hell out of America!
