I haven't had time to read all of it, so I skipped to the sections just about video recording.
I think this is the jist in Sound And Vision magazine, I think current edition, that the video recording delay is somewhat flawed. One of the functions is to use the PVR to delay playback. However on the Media Center, the delayed playback takes 5 minutes to rewind, and the delayed record holds only up to 30 minutes. So if you delay 30 minutes, jump in and watch, you'll miss the first five minutes!!!
I can't remember if it was in the same article or different discussions about how long it will keep recordings.
New guns sold will be required to have an eSafety... so when it crashes, the rules of gun fight have changed. You now have to beat your opponent senseless, which is not good. And if they have your gun, and kill you, it will be loaded. Very ironic. I was beaten to death by a fully loaded gun.... How disgusting... not even worth the cost of the bullet... oh wait... that was the Nazis...
Ok, so the gun is stolen, and it happens that the gun is modified so that it can be used by someone else. The gun is used in a crime. Is the owner still held responsible?
Another step, the gun manages to go off in the hands of someone other than the printed operator(s). Who do you sue? Do you try to sue the manufacturer, or do you sue the state. The state was the one who approved and mandated faulty equipement. The gun manufacturers are going to do their best, they have to. They don't want to be sued for faulty products. But if the states rush, them, who's to say what will happen.
Therefore, make your own. There are no laws against average Joe from making a firearm. Granted it can't be a full auto, and he can't make it if he's a felon.
Granted you need to know a bit about guns before making one. But that can be learned.
Has NJ banned gun shows? Buy a used gun if not.
This will be interesting to see play out. If they do manage to get this to work, prices on used guns in that state will go up. Gun running in the US to New Jersey!!!
So the police are the only ones who can approve who uses the gun. Doesn't this amount to federal tracking, which the ATF isn't supposed to do?
Interesting, a state that has so much of its history involving the people's militia would forget that it played key events in the American Revolution, including Washington crossing the Delaware, Battles of Trenton and Princeton, and the Battle of Monmouth.
IMHO, I'd say one of the reasons we buy crap is that we're so often mislead by marketing ads. Look at how well Bose sells their stuff. I'm not trying to start a flame war on audio equipment so don't take us there.
I have not bought Bose so I am not speaking from first hand experience, just based on lots of research and reading. Just substitute any other manufacturer's name that you don't like if you like Bose.
Bose spends a great deal on their marketing and a lot of people believe that the quality is excellent. So they'll pay for the name and think they've got a great package. As long as it sounds close to what they thought it would, their happy. So another satisified customer.
Same goes for any major manufacturer. You set a pain threshold for how much someone is willing to pay based on features and brand name. Companies know they can sell based on their names to the majority of people. Flood the market with all sorts of different features just to have some differences, and you give consumers a wide range to stick with. Find a big box company like Best Buy to display as much of your line as possible, and you've got a good chance for a sale.
How much time does it take for you to do research so that you get the most for your buck? At what cost point is your minimum research. This boils down to cost benefit analysis. Who's willing to do that? If $50 for a specific item seems a lot of money to spend, you'll do some research before spending it. If $your pain threshold is much higher, then you won't do the research. If it breaks no big deal.
You build something to span two distances, objectives and functionality.
IMHO, when comparing the two types of sciences people forget to continue with the analogy. Bridges tend to be fixed earth, lots of preanalysis work to build the foundation. In software development the ground keeps moving, you dig through one layer, and discover a whole different sediment layer.
Bridges have specific principles, gravity, tension, etc. Our correlation could be hardware and software environments. How much stuff is cross compatible 100% of the time? Everything has got to be tweaked a bit before it will work somewhere else.
To the best of my knowledge all bridges have been built on Earth. Let's see how well they would do on another planet. Same principles to start with, but a whole different factors to contend with. That's what its like in programming. We can write the if else, while loops, oop, sql whatever, but its not the same in different environments...
anywho... the caffeine rush is on... brain going way too fast now... can't hold thoughts...
Ok... now tht we've gotten down and dirty... but if you did set this up for some perverted / kinky business... would that qualify as prostitution?
Could this qualify as sex?
Can you imagine a whole set of laws created making it illegal having simulated sex???
This brings cheating on your spouse to a whole new level of complexity. Its one thing to send messages back and forth, but then you could actually have a physical relationship, does that constitute cheating?
Right now, most people are making fun of the idea.
How about remote medicine? A doctor in the USA could actually operate on someone in another country, or demonstrate a technique to students across the world.
All elements of human interaction and comprehension of emotions is lost in a digital medium. So in a sense communications via the Internet are a step backwards. But it sure is cheaper to send an email than to fly half way around the world just to say hi to someone so they can see that you are happy to hear from them.
Let's compile a list of the email addresses from this company and their clients, add them to an Outlook Address Book, and let 'em have it!!!
Payback's a *itch!!!
I'll wager no one will read this since its old... Here's something I picked up on GunTalk this weekend.
The Supreme Court has upheld that felons do not need to register the guns that they have.
Why? By federal law, a felon is not allowed to own firearms. By registering their firearm, they are incriminating themselves. It violates their 5th Amendment!!!
The only people who are required to register are nonfelons. If the cops / ATF came to your door and demanded your gun, if you do not comply, you'd be a felon, and have to surrender your firearms.
Only then could you legally own an unregistered firearm!!!
On a steady basis, I'll work 8 hr/day. Anything more, and I have to be caffienated, and really enjoying it (most of the time I do). Also I'll take a break somewhere in there, usually around the 6-7 hour mark, just to break things up, get a little human contact so that I know I'm a living person versus a mushroom.
In the past, if there was a major deadline, then I'd up the hours for a couple of days to get the application presentable, or at least mostly functional.
The only time I really pushed the hours is when I had a good group of programmers, who had the same commitement level as I did. Then working until 2am wasn't bad. But thats making the workplace fun and having fun while doing it.
In situations like that we knew we needed to take a mental break, so we'd take a few minutes to do something that had nothing to do with work, usually toss around a football, get the blood flowing again. Going back to the code wasn't too painful. Also improved my spiral.
It really boiled down to the personalities involved. Unfortunately when one of the group left, it left a void and things went downhill quickly.
When I was working long hours like that, I'd lose sleep, become caffeine dependant, and just be a total mess. The stress wasn't worth it.
If the boss don't get it at this point, its time to get out. Nothing is going to change until a more serious cost comes up, like an accident, or you shave your head and move to Tibet.
According to Sprint's other Press Releases, the coverage area is Continental US (they love to leave out Alaska and Hawaii), and cities having populations exceeding 100,000 (once again those bastards leave out Alaska and Hawaii).
I admit to having a hotmail account. And yes I get a ton of spam messages. If I don't check mail for 1 day, I'll get about 70-80 junk messages.
However, I have my filter set on high, and almost nothing gets through that isn't approved. And out of the stuff that isn't spam that ends up in my junk mail, that's like 1 message per week, and their just mailing lists for some online notices, like IGN, and atomfilms.
The spammers have gotten really good and are using reply and from addresses like hotmail and msn admins/notices, etc.
And yes, I have other email addreses, but I don't get junk mail in those cause I don't use them for any type of purchases or online posting.
I did a little research a few months ago cause a friend was building a bear rifle.
According to the ATF it is not illegal to make your own gun provided it is not a semi automatic and the person is not making it for sale and the person is allowed to possess a firearm.
With certain exceptions a firearm may be made by a nonlicensee provided it is not for sale and the maker is not prohibited from possessing firearms.
However, a person is prohibited from making a semiautomatic assault weapon or assembling a nonsporting semiautomatic rifle or nonsporting shotgun from
imported parts. In addition, the making of an NFA firearm requires a tax payment and approval by ATF. An application to make a machinegun will not be
approved unless documentation is submitted showing that the firearm is being made for a federal or state agency. [18 U. S. C. 922( o), (r), (v), and 923, 27 CFR 178.39, 178.40, 178.41 and
Ability to compute possibilities.
Based on both AIs, if one CPU does better than the other, it gives an idea of its ability to run calculations correctly.
The ideal situation is that they tie based on the same AI.
With different AI's the results should mirror each other, ie AMD with Fritz wins should equal Intel with Fritz wins, etc. That would indicate equal computation capabilities.
If one AI dominates, well then that's just the AI.
IANAL... but so far I don't know what the laws are in Germany regarding ISP requirements. We're assuming that the same legal laws here apply to there. Does anybody know what laws and violations applied?
What are the ramifications for ISPs here? I would think nothing. This happened in Germany, and has no legal impact on our laws. Someone here can't argue legal precendent has been set in Germany.
In the US, we can argue fair use, interpretation of original art, or any other First Amendment arguement. What are the equivalent arguments in Germanym, if any?
The only possible arguments would be libel or slander, which are clear violations of the First Amendment.
Supposing that the company is using biometrics, and tack on the wireless cash registers, like Best Buy.
So now someone is sitting in the parking lot, obtaining your fingerprint.
Granted, this is just another form of identity theft. So how much longer before there is an uproar about the convenience of biometrics resulting in identity thefts.
Has anyone seen Kroger's disclaimer and privacy policy?
Also, since it is advertising does it have free speech rights that art has? Can I copy the game to make a parody of it?
Instead of Quake featuring big nasty monsters, it would be Pepsi monsters, ie Britney Spears.
But with all the ads inserted into a game, doesn't it date the game. No jokes about gamers and their dating lives please.
Example, references to Tab. How many people get the humor out of it? Only the few who know that Tab was a softdrink and not a button on the keyboard.
By driving the game with ads, it becomes a one hit wonder. If its really well designed, then it might become a cult classic.
I can see the latest press release. Handgun Inc suing PVC, hairspray, lighter fluid, and potato growers.
Then you can get all the benefits and protection of the law!!!
No DCMA issues, and you can charge script kiddies for using your methods!!!
And the best use of a patent, M$ would have to buy fixes from us!!!!

1. Will it create an entry barrier for competition? If Yes, lawsuit.
2. Will it prevent purchases? If yes, lawsuit for socio-economic discrimination.
IOW, someone will sue the state!!!

Correction.
There will never be innocents in the US ever again.
Isn't it, "You're innocent UNTIL proven guilty." The assumption being that you're guilty already.

The failure rate between matching the same brand of ammo was 30%.
Change the ammo, and the failure rate is somewhere over 60%.
Current use of ballastics databases are very limited. By the time you get accurate results, the cops have already arrested said suspect.

Anchorage Daily News does the same thing.
I didn't buy the archived message, but this link should take you to the search results to get to it.
