The US government has been corrupt for a long time. The difference now is that Manning and Snowden have basically pulled back the veil of secrecy enough to see that the Wonderful Wizard is nothing more than a crotchety old man. Not even a nice one at that. We have been on a slide since the 1950s. The only way we came to prominence is that the rest of the world leveled itself and somehow, sans Pearl Harbor, we remained untouched. What do you get when you have only one functioning economy in the world? Hello new World Power. The Soviets worked hard to bring themselves backup up to speed and quickly became the second Super Power. The Soviets had a shoddy structure though and fell to pieces because of that. Because of this, the US has lost it's primary enemy and looks around the world for others. Compare the US to Rome, and the history lines up so perfectly it's scary. Look at how the past two presidents tried to take power away from the senate. Look at how we spend more money on entertainment than we do on science or any other industry that will advance us. Look at the type of entertainment we have today where what we watch has little relevance tomorrow rather than something we will watch and cherish years or centuries from now. We are in the bread and circuses phase of the empire. Everyone is poor, but continue to be entertained, so they don't care. Religion is continuing to come into prominence again as it did in the the fall of the Roman empire. The rest of the world is advancing and our ideas are quickly becoming outdated. Our influence on the world is waning and we have very little to show for it. Other than a flag on the moon marking one of our pinnacle moments of advancement.

A good pen tester has to not only give you results to what he is doing, but also inform the company of how to fix what they are doing wrong. An example would be something as simple as upping their password complexity. Use Enterprise WPA2 instead of Personal WPA. Lock off your ports or lock up your switches. Upping password complexity. Opportunist is correct in that there are the security testers who just invade and churn out a report that says: blah. These guys get paid, but aren't worth much. Many of them probably don't understand the tools they are using or how they work. The problem is, the security industry really doesn't have much credibility yet. There have been improvements. But as with all gold rush opportunities, there has been a flood of applicants claiming they know what's going on. This is the same as any industry though. Security is picked on, not unfairly mind you, because a lot more money is tossed around.

Where are the cheap Hasbro toys that you can find on all of the Walmart toy shelves? Or Kenner, or anywhere else. Instead we had a giant robot/monster movie pretty much directed at grown ups. RIPD was dead on arrival. Also, you cant have 30 block buster films in a summer and expect them all to do well. Dial it back just a bit. I am not going to see two or three movies every weekend, the entire summer. Then again, look at how Pacific Rim and some of the others are doing overseas verses here in the U.S. Del Toro's movie is going to probably end up with 80% of the gross coming from markets across the Pacific. After Earth was bleh. Lone Ranger was actually actually pushed forward by Depp himself. White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen were both recycled ideas that should have been stopped before they got off the ground.

Discovery Channel is an easy target considering the fact that at one time it was a channel that was actually informative and provided some intellectual value. But as time progressed, the intellectual value was supplanted with entertainment value which was funded by advertisement value. Basically we live in a world driven by consumers. Unfortunately the stupidest people consume the most. Another easy target would be TLC. This channel was once called, "The Learning Channel." I don't honestly think I could refer to that channel as such without vomiting in my mouth a little bit. The learning was completely removed in the full title of the show, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. there goes the learning portion of this channel" Another frustrating loss is the History Channel. While I grew tired of the WWII/Nazi Channel, there was a great bit more for that channel to explore. Instead, they decided to go with the "Aliens/Conspiracy/NASCAR" route. Perhaps this is the normal evolution of entertainment. Perhaps this is why Seth MacFarlene is so excited to do Cosmos with Neil DeGrasse Tyson instead of another Family Guy spinoff or Ted type of movie. I so want to hear about Cosmos and I hope that Fox doesn't kill that series like they do so much else. I feel there is a demographic of people out there just hungry to learn, but they are flooded with so much crap that they don't .
