I've only changed everything but the block/heads ;-) (VF34, new fuel system w/rails, cold air intake, ecu reprogram, etc, etc.). My only real complaint with the wrx is that the 5m is not a very strong tranny so I've had to stop tweaking until I have the $ for a 6 speed swap,(just about 350hp crank :) )

In fact, my parents, both reasonably intelligent people (having both completed at least the master level of grad school) thought that Gore actually meant he created the internet. Only one of my parents is a republican, so it's not because of party lines...

Odd thing, this whole bush is dumb thinking... if you listen to one of George bush's debates from 10 years ago, and a recent debate/speech you'd notice he went from being very polished, neither making up words nor screwing up existing words. (sorry you have to actually listen to something... life goes on) Did Bush have a frontal lobotomy? I doubt it, he just thought more people would vote for him if he was a "common man". In a nut shell, Bush seems to think that the average american wishes an idiot in office. What really scares me is that ~49% of the voters proved him right.

While it is true that costs will keep this from changing anything IMMEDIATELY. If he is successful, and he's able to eventually create a viable 3d image on a "wall", then this will completely change a lot of things in the not so distant future. People who build houses will easily adopt this. Imagine you can have the picture window of your dreams, but won't have to "do" windows. You won't lose heat or cold through the windows, sound won't enter the house through the windows, a baseball won't break your windows (just possibly a camera that is at that time cheaper to replace then a 12'x12' double paned picture window). Also, in theory you would be able to pipe *any* suitably encoded image/movie through this "window". You could have the aurora borealis on the ceiling of your bedroom, or a view of the ocean (or the ocean depths) from your 2 bedroom flat in Iowa. Or for the more adult minded people, a view of your favorite strip club / nudist beach. There are a lot of privacy concerns to be ironed out in the future, but this technology (once proven) is priceless.

However, not everyone will like it, even if it's affordable. I just spent at least 5 minutes arguing the "coolness" factor of the "invisible" wall... Hell, even if it's expensive high priced day spas and yoga escapes would kill for this. You could create the perfect environment for whatever mood you are charging your customers out the nose for. Eventually, combine 6 of these (curved around a person) with the latest surround sound (7.1 is not uncommon today) and you've come damn close to virtual reality. Imagine (insert popular game title here) through that sort of monitor... especially the games along the lines of grand prix 4. These games inspire the sort of devotion that causes people to buy $500 video cards every 12-18 months today...

Very cool technology, I hope he's successful, and this isn't classified by the time I'm ready to build/remodel a house. :)

A further pipe dream(?) would be some way to split and clean up the exhaust causing primarly Oxygen to be released.

I must say I'm very surprised it's taken this long for biodiesel to hit /. we hack our computers, we hack our computers (tweaks/ecu reprograms), so why not hacking our fuel. VCR's: You're completely missing the point of HDTV, (current) vcr's do NOT record in High Def, or even medium def ;-) S-Video VCR's are closer to DVD quality, but still not there, and for the price, it's not worth it. Basically as with any new technology, there's always reasons to wait, and there's always reasons to buy now, I purchased my HighDef TV almost 2 years ago, and haven't regretted it since. The picture quality is fantastic, and in most of the major markets there's a terrestrial HighDef signal for the at least one network. If you're a DirecTV subscriber, there's the HighDef channel (name escapes me), Showtime-HD, HBO-HD, and more coming. (Dish I think has a few other channels, including Discovery HD). Of course as has been mentioned cable companies also transmit HD TV in some markets. Basically the question breaks down to: 1) do you have the money for a HighDef compatible TV (I wouldn't recommend tv's with built in HD receivers)? 2) Do you want the best possible picture? 3) Are you sure you don't want to wait for 6 months when the TV's are cheaper? (great part of this question is it can be used until slightly before the end of time :) ) If you answer yes to all of these questions, knock yourself out, perhaps buy the pioneer plasma version :) God I've got too much free time!

The refurbished price is more then lite-on's 52x24x52 drive is new... true you don't save much time, but since the tattoing also takes "a while", you're sacrificing even more speed. If I absolutely have to label a cd for others to read (remember, this is on the data side, so if you're giving it to a non tech person, and you do support be ready to support why the cd doesn't work if you don't make sure they understand that the label is on the bottom :) ), I'd label the top of a cd with a cheap cd label :) But for the most part, I just use a sharpe, and try to read my handwriting :) (I keep one sharpe connected to my burning computer since I keep losing my sharpes ;-) ) Some say it doesn't decrease the total writable area of the cdr (if you don't overburn), but since I haven't actually spent the $ to try this technology I can't confirm or deny that it will let you stuff a cd full of music/data and label it too, to quote the article: "On a tattooed CD-R, there will be a zone with data encoded by the EFM process and another corresponding to the blank data-free spaces, where graphics and text will be visible. " if your cd is 75% full it'll let you tattoo it, but at 100% or 101 I wonder if it still will, anyone have one of these and want to chime in? To me it's useless, and I'm a gadget guy, I guess I just am more of a speed freak then a gadget guy (or maybe I'm just price concious...) I'm guessing this "tattooing" drive didn't give Yamaha the boost they wanted.
