According to the Tivo Community forum, there was some bad language in the show recorded, but the promo is bypassing the parental filters, meaning that even if you have it set up to only record the most boring pointless dribble for your kids, it will still record something R rated if Tivo gets enough money. I have never even looked at the parental controls on my Tivo, but i really find this completly unaceptable.

  11. I don't know if everyone understands... on EchoStar Asks Supreme Court to Let Unlock Local Channels · · Score: 3, Insightful

I keep reading posts from people who think that EcoStar is trying to get the right to re-broadcast all local TV stations. If that is what they wanted, it wouldn't be a problem, everyone would love that. What they are actualy asking for is the right to broadcast the 10 or 20 largest affiliates to everyone and just ignore the rest of the local stations. This also isn't just something that local stations could just pre-empt, the satalites just don't have enough bandwidth to push local content from every station in the country. This will take viewers away from local stations(i'm not saying thats a bad thing) I also have seen a couple of posts stating that there are not enough dish users for this to really make a dent in any local station. The #1 reason there are so few dish users is because most people would end up having to set up an antenna in order to watch ABC/NBC/FOX/CBS. If that was no longer a problem dishes would be flying off shelves, price woudln't even be a factor, a good DirecTV package is cheeper than my local extended basic cable package.

  13. Biggest Problem on Fast Track to a CS Degree? · · Score: 1

I think one of the biggest problems you will find is that at most major Universites, CS is part liberal arts department. So you have to take lots of electives in social science, history, humanities etc. It seems kinda dumb, but thats part of having a BS degee, being well rounded etc. That is what the school is selling, and that is what anyone who is requiring a BS degree is looking for. Unfortunetly, all of those electives take time to complete, especialy if you can't go to school full time.

  15. Re:XP and pair programming on Multitasking Harmful To Productivity · · Score: 5, Interesting

Where I work we don't have any specific rules about this kind of thing so things happen both ways, but on the one project where one other guy and I are working side by side on a piece of code, our productivity jumps thru the roof, and not only do we get MUCH more done, the code we produce comes back from QA with almost none(or in several cases Zero) defects. I think alot of it has to do with us catching each others dumb mistakes, and i don't just mean missing ';' or other things that compilers will check (In fact we had to teach our selves to igonor such problems when the other was typing becuase by the end of the day we woudl want to kill each other) We will catch simple logic errors and flawed assumptions as the come up because each of us already has an idea of what the code will look like, and if the other does something completly strange we can discuss it and figure out if its the right thing to do, all before its ever finished. There is nothing worse than digging thru 5k lines of code looking for weird logic erros.
