AC, you should try learning to take the heat for your trolls. My statement wasn't taken out of context in any way, and repeated no ones statements in this sub-thread.
I believe the 3 lawyer 3 geek plan is the best I've seen, but it makes too much sense to ever become law.

It's unfortunate, but in this political climate, I don't think that the current administration would be this "anti-business" and you could never get something like this through congress.
As a club member, I've been running it on several machines of various configurations. Here's a brief take of the 30 installs on 10 machines:
- I can't unplug my Dell 5800 laptop while running or it locks up, same with plugging it in while running. Working on the cause.
- BE SURE to check your MD5 sums. I've had more bad disks with this release than the last 3 or so releases combined. One bad disk would not only fail to install a package, but would break and remove several others unless the offending package was removed. Then voila! the broken packages return to the menus and functionality.
- Handles 3d hardware acceleration fine for my ATI 9500 card, but no 3d for my 9700 pro (5 install attempts and dozens of fixes) I will not give up... Must..get...CWET...working.
- K3b is the default burning software, so just change your cd drives to ide-scsi and save yourselves some headaches over "unusable" drives
- Mandrake-galaxy is a theme that actually appeals to me. And I generally can't stand themes no matter the platform.
Other than these major points, I think this is the best Mandrake yet. I can't wait for kde 3.2 and the 2.6 kernal. I'm just not feeling that adventurous yet.... but i will soon.

I used to use the Imageblaster software. I still have plenty of floppies and some images stored on various hard drives, as the product has "evolved" and been bought a few times in the past. Currently Altiris has turned it into rapideploy. While I haven't used this latest incarnation, the nicest thing about it was that it did a bit-by-bit copy (I believe) so that corrupted files meant nothing. I never had an image fail if the HDD was good. I could never say that about any other product, as I've had plenty of Ghost and other solutions fail on a bad file or file system.
Image blaster was sweet though, and the server and the client fit on the same floppy. The only drawback was that I never set it up to use IP, just IPX, so I would flood the hell out of our network if I needed to cross the backbone.
You bring up some valid points, especially the embedded systems issue. I don't think that I was wrong, I was simply pointing out how wildly innacurate this (could be/is) as well as what could be interpreted from the given dataset. My assertions are no wilder than the ones that the surveyers made, just different.
Second - You will need a larger exchange server to handle the additional duties. Your typical exchange server with bells and whistles handling all aspects of email including all those mapi clients shouldn't handle over 5000 users max, and 3000 optimally.
Unfortunate for you, PF, you should've studied. Also copying drawings from the back of a matchbook doesn't really count.
The University of Phoenix is a real brick and mortar university here in sunny Phoenix, AZ. I don't go to U of P but I do have a buddy that teaches there and says the classes in a classroom are good. He also states that they put alot into the online stuff so that, just like a brick and mortar school, the student gets out of it what they put in. I'd bet that just as many, if not more Stupid People(tm) percentage-wise come from brick and mortar as from online schools. Most people who get this kind of continuing education want that degree, unlike the millions of high-school grads that want to party.
And just to rub it in... it's a beautiful day in the nineties and sunny.
For what it's worth, the commercial solutions are hard to setup, unstable and terribly difficult to maintain, and this is after a small fortune has been invested in making them work. Not to knock the open source solution, but it's hard to beleive that something that is infrequently used and difficult to understand will be truly production quality if you want to use it for money.

I live near the sections of highway where they have laid this stuff, and it's like pulling a nail out of your head when you hit it. The constant hum of the road is much more intrusive then you can imagine. It's alot like turning off the range hood fan after it's been on for a couple hours and the hum has invaded your bones. All you hear is the wind around the vehicle.
I look forward to hitting the stuff, and they are supposed to be repaving a 21 mile portion of a highway thats not even 3 years old yet. (The highway system in Phoenix is still pretty new and growing)
Excellent points... now where's my mod points when I really need them?
administrator@whitehouse.org
postmaster@whitehouse.org for starters
any more suggestions?

That's exactly what I was thinking. It works pretty well in a corporate environment too. ;-)
Thanks for the tips

Couple thoughts on this:
-Poor sampling of programmers
-The world of developers is aiming at Linux as it's install base will grow.
-Linux is a better platform to program for.
I'm sure there's more idiosyncracies to find in this report, but these are just my $.02

First - Setup Active Directory 2.0 (ouch)
Second - You will need a larger exchange server to handle the additional duties. Your typical exchange server with bells and whistles handling all aspects of email including all those mapi clients shouldn't handle over 5000 users max, and 3000 optimally.
Third - Mixed environments make good security.
Fourth - Build for growth
Fifth - Sell your arms and legs for the cost.

I had a sig, let it go, and it never came back. I loved that sig.
-I use webmin so that I don't have to remember all the man pages and switches for some CLI commands.
-Webmin shows some switches and configuration possiblities that you may not run across during your normal CLI sessions.
-It can help tweak your installations without trying a command 5 or 10 times until I get all the switches right.
-Sometimes just being able to hit the high port # (10000) when all the lower ports are closed can be a life saver too.

I'm so happy they found someone I appreciate, I could just put on a dress and tell jokes in french.
