"that the average American would want the line between liberty and safety drawn right at the national borders of the USA. Ie the rest of the world is unsafe and the USA has liberty."

are you kidding, or what? that's a huge part of the problem we had with information prior to the 9/11 attacks.. the question at this point really isn't whether we should look at people who are in the US legally, but AT WHAT POINT do we start looking at them, what steps are we allowed to take, and what happens with the information gathered.. believe me, I'm not at all saying I'm willing to give up any liberties in this.. that's the one thing I feel we both can't, and should not do.. giving up our freedoms will only show that terror is succeeding.. If we're not free, what's left to protect? There definately needs to be some rules set into place, but I believe we can find a way to accomplish this..

and even more obvious than that? he obviously never found his way there.. the doors are still closed..

    The article says:
"Arnold said the shafts and doors could be related to ancient Egyptians' religion. Egyptian texts, Hawass said, speak of the pharaoh's soul encountering a series of doors before reaching the rewards of afterlife."
    Then goes on to state:

""Don't expect that I can tell you what's behind the stone" door, Arnold said. "We're all stunned. We have no parallel.""
    Isn't it obvious? It's HEAVEN!!!

not that I've actually checked, but just from the description given, how many people actually PURCHASE from microsoft directly? just as worded, sounds to me there'd be no reason to think govt agencies who were bound by these guidelines couldn't purchase MS OS/Software from a third party, it says you can't purchase FROM them, not you can't purchase their products..

Well, I've never heard anyone say such a thing, I don't know anyone who thinks they can't use netscape with IE installed.. that said, it's not so much just IE, or that a user can't install netscape, or whatever browser they want, it's that you really don't HAVE a choice of whether or not to install IE, and quite a few other so called "addons" .. which is the major difference between windows and KDE, also, KDE isn't actually an operating system, it's only a GUI.. and although I haven't looked recently, you USED to be able to run KDE without Konqueror.. also, I'd imagine what bill gates was talking about regarding defining IE, was that since IE4, IE has been fairly well integrated into the OS, and is used for quite a bit more than simply browsing the web, in fact most anything you do in a recent version of windows is actually done in IE.. I'd imagine that's the angle he was playing..

  7. considerable testing? on Gates Admits Stripped Down Windows Possible · · Score: 1
"Mr Gates admitted that Windows XP Embedded, a version of Windows used in products such as bank cash machines, allowed programmers to pick and chose which functions they wanted. However, Mr Gates pointed out that Windows XP Embedded required considerable testing after the options had been selected, and would not allow third-party software to be subsequently added."

Hang on a second here, considerable testing was required.. what, they were afraid it might be (gasp) unstable?

Ah yes, a company shutting down a site that can potentially drastically cut their sales? How awful. Let's boycott them forever.

hmm.. you're a schmuck.. you can't play on bnetd servers without a copy of starcrack, therefore, you really have to either purchase the software, or (oh god, I'm going to say it) bum a copy from someone else.. those who are too cheap for whatever reason to spend 12 bux on SC, weren't going to ever buy it to begin with.. secondly, the only thing having a duplicate CD key will prevent you from doing, is accessing battle.net.. now, maybe I'm being silly, but I've never seen 6000 users on a bnetd server.. only small groups of friends.. so it's really not circumventing anything.. I could setup a vlan with 8 of my closests friends, all using the SAME copy of SC even, and we could play a lan game together.. should blizzard then go after anyone who produces virtual networking products as well, because they circumvent their copy protection? also note, bnetd is not a hack of the battle.net software, it's original code.. granted packet sniffers were undoubletly used to generate that code, but there's nothing illegal about that.. try and tell me I can't packet sniff my network.. that being the case, I don't see where bnetd violates any actual laws.. I could be wrong, and if so.. someone post and let me know..
