I mean come on, it's hardly the first site most people go to, I would have thought sysadmins and the like that do frequent the site are going to be using (hopefully) the highest patched version of their browser of choice.
Because the issue isn't over whether there are companies with similar names, it's over the fact that the URL is similar and is causing (allegedly) unwanted traffic.
It still exists in CDC Atlanta, and we know some still exists at Vector, but what's to say that Vector wasn't plundered during the collapse of the Soviet Union? Or at anytime? I think it's more than likely that some has worked it's way out at some point, or during the stock destruction in the 90's. Some microbiologists did not want to see those stocks destroyed. Oh, and Vector is in Siberia, not Moscow;) I'm assuming your referring to the Moscow institute for viral preparation.
I saw it too, and realised where the three cold calls i recieved earlier this year may have originated from. I was called on my mobile by an middle eastern sounding man or woman, and told that they could move me to a much better contract, and if i was happy they could go ahead and make the change straight away as they had all the details they needed. They hung up when I demanded to know what details they had and where they got them from. Scary stuff; I'm careful with my details, and I haven't bought a mobile 'phone over the 'phone or online like most of the people mentioned.
It was eye opening for my wife, she had no idea how easy it was to commit fraud with a few card details and the CSV number on the back. She doesn't buy anything remotely, so wouldn't know better, but i was shocked that many people could be this open to potential fraud.
I switched telecoms providers recently, and my previous provider sends me at least one letter a week asking me if my service is better and telling me that i really should switch back, and look at all the shiny deals they've currently got..... He's got a vague point....
Their are posters from the Met Police all over London telling people to write down their IMEI numbers and report them in the instance of theft. They're making more effort than they were.
"It is not yet possible to register.mobi domains. Dot Mobi domains will be registered through ICANN accredited registrars. Please check back to this page for updates on when and where to register.mobi domains" - right underneath the big register button....
It's not, but a pretty coloured 7" or awesome artwork on a 12" picture disc is much much more interesting that just the shiny side of a CD..... Even the covers are better, Iron Maiden artwork was not meant to be squeezed onto a CD cover....
So an article in the Observer makes claims from 'sources', and all of a sudden everyone should get their tin foil hats out. We've all seen what a spectacular failure most of the recent UK Gov IT projects have been, if I believed they were even capable of doing this I might be slightly concerned. When they officially announce this is what they're rolling out, I'll make a fuss.
Hopefully, the fact that he 'welcomes' the publicity will do enough to enough to damage his career and teach him not to be such an arrogant gob-shite in the future....
Exactly. The bitching the slash-bots did over Microsoft 'stealing' tabs, and 'stealing' the RSS icon was beyond biblical proportions, but no one will utter a peep about this.

Because when Billy says to Jimmy check out youtube.com, Jimmy isn't going to accidentally type universaltubes.com....

"How soon will this affect stuff like guitar tabs?"
Have you been sleeping under a rock?

Or even an MCSE. If you're going to knock us, get the term right.
So you're saying, if this guy's school had some money when he was there, he wouldn't have grown up a pompous prick?

Author of what article? Markoff isn't invloved in anything in the submission?
Why the hell does that make any difference at all?
I was hoping he was joking.
I know that, you know that, but there were a great deal of sandle wearing hippies that didn't.

Submitter here. That's my linguistic cockup, not the article's.
