How long would it take the NSA to destroy the bitcoin by devaluing it?
Why would the NSA/CIA/ETC want to destroy a way for them to fund whatever they want wherever they want with a system they can game to be invisible to oversight? Hell, they probably funded the invention of bitcoin.
I imagine that most of you are like me and have a drawer full of thumb drives that will never be used. Is anyone accepting these and sneaking them into Cuba? Or do they have all they want and need already?
Sorry, no. That's a dealbreaker. I'm sick to death of the zombie theme. Why on earth couldn't you put ten minutes into coming up with something original?
Here is what happens: The advertisers submit ads to the person generating site content, who incorporates the ads into content such that it can't be automatically blocked. Not as dynamic as what the model is now but if sites with sophisticated users who block ads which are inserted on the fly by third parties want to keep up, well, that is the future.
Few people know that when Columbus reached Hispaniola he couldn't get a berth because the harbor was filled with Vikings, Phoenicians, Egyptians, Chinese, etc.
And the Wright brothers couldn't get clearance from the tower due to all the other aviators being in the air already.
Actually, that's why I chose Princeton over MIT when I was accepted at both. I had other strong academic interests besides EECS, and didn't want to sit in literature courses with the same folks who were in my engineering classes.
I never applied to Princeton or any other liberal arts university, but from my experience with their graduates over the years I will tell you that my undergraduate writing and literature classes - consisting primarily of science and engineering students - were far more focused and interesting than my imagination tells me they would have been at Harvard, for example.
It was like MIT people never left campus and had no social lives to speak of.
Outside of Boston, it is not widely known that MIT has a large and active fraternity system.
From Wikipedia:
"MIT has a very active Greek and co-op housing system which includes 36 fraternities, sororities, and independent living groups. In 2009, 92% of all undergraduates lived on MIT-affiliated housing, 50 percent of the men in fraternities and 34% of the women in sororities."
So half of all MIT men live in a frat and many frats are off the campus.
Huge asteroid is found which will wipe out humans in two years. Scientists and engineers come up with a brilliant and very expensive plan to save humanity. US politicians argue about whether to fund it by tax cuts or tax hikes right up until impact.
If you are going to use this method, then the more mass in your ship the better. Unfortunately, that means a more expensive launch. If you plan ahead, you figure out a way to accumulate debris and smaller rocks at some stable orbital point so when you need mass you can launch a light ship, go to the rockyard, and gather up more mass at reduced cost.
I agree, he's great for explaining stupid shit to proles, but as far as a professional scientist goes he has very little credibility in my book.
Great. You'd be comfortable with this future:
Scientists: By the way, there is a huge hunk of rock that is going to hit the earth tomorrow and wipe us all out.
Public: Wait - what? Why didn't you warn us?
Scientists: We discussed it at length at our obscure meetings. Why should we have to take time out of our important work to explain complicated shit in your terms? Stupid proles.
Who will be faster - the ditch diggers or the telecom lobbyists demanding the end to such community ditch digging?
You do realise this is a story about Britain, don't you?
Yes, we realize that in England BT is a 15 billion quid company with a heart of gold which would never hire a lobbyist but shows its displeasure with harrumphs and a brandished brolly and that there is always more gruel.
I think I would rather my lawyers tell ICANN to not let someone buy a gTLD with my trademark in it.
I pay the USPTO for trademark registration, and that covers everything.

... its a great country to live in as long as you follow the rules.....
The Devil is in the details, or in this case, the rules.
Okay, I'll do it - as long as you promise to name your third movie It Has Nothing To Do With Zombies.
It's a last name, not first. It was Jeremy Dean and he ended up killing himself.
You never sausage a horrible thing.

I will watch it if you promise there are no frigging zombies or vampires. Are there frigging zombies or vampires?

...because I've got a boat payment to make.
Car Talk fan? :-)
Only if you make brownies for your doctor's office.

They moved their servers to Hugo Chavez' crypt.
I will trust robots about the same time I trust humans.
I still trust Google way more than I trust Microsoft.
The "stuff that matters" is that Americans elected that kind of people to make laws based on his knowledge.
The politician cited in this story makes laws based on the wishes of his largest contributors, not his personal knowledge.

He got a Groupon for a $1 million severance package for only $500,000.
