My work has 6 optical platter "Jukebox's" that they run for a client, we have had them for atleast 4 or 5 years now. there double sided 2.6B (per side)platters in steal (the newer ones are plastic)caddy, they look fairly similar to these, but the caddy isn't transparent. There very sturdy, I have dropped many a platter and I have yet to break one...hehe...yet. I wouldnt mind them so much if it werent for the fact that the jukebox's have an ass load of problems, some days we have to restart a single box 10 times during the coarse of the shift, now keep it mind it takes 15 minutes+ to restart. Plasmon has information of MO drives and media on there website, the MO jukebox's look alot like the older ones I am talking about, just less boxy. My point is that this is really not a new technology, some large businesses have been using similar products for years, with in my case, crappy results.

Ah good question, actually we do have over a million tapes in silo at the present time (I don't know how many, I don't do my work with the silos). But the reason we have so many tapes not in silos is for one simple reason, COST. A lot of our clients find it cheaper to have stand-alone drives and pay Unisys a "few bodies" to staff it. I would think it would be cheaper in the long run to just purchase a silo and to run it, but they don't see it that way. Another possible reason is that the clients come in with only a few systems (say 2 systems and 2 drive strings, like one of our more recent customers), but later decide to bring in more systems. They keep added systems they finally decide to purchase a silo, which like some customers, never happens. But the main reason is that most companies just don't require enough tape mounts to make the purchase and use of a silo necessary.

After all, isn't the whole idea of file sharing that software should be for everyone and not just for a select few that can afford it? I work for a large outsourcing company, not going to say which one but it is an international company, with tens or even hundreds of thousands of employees. we currently house 1.5 million tapes onsite that anyone could get past the guards could just walk in and take without question. Getting past the guards is not that hard, all you have to do is come up with some fake "important" reason why your there and more than likely the guard will give you access to the data center.

The only problem here is that with this many tapes, how the hell are you going to know which tape is the one with the data your looking for on it?

If you had bothered to read the article you would know that one of the notable advantages of the Pulse Detonation Engine is that is can be used at a much higher range of speeds. The Pulse Detonation Engine would hypothetically be able to be used anywhere from take off to Hypersonic speeds. The "certain airspeed" at which it can function minimally is much lower than you think.

I am twenty and Saturday morning cartoons' meant alot to me when I was a child, the saturday mourning cartoons didn't stop airing until I got to be atleast 12, and by then I was getting to old for them anyways. I was a TV junky as a child, watched alot of nickleodeon, but Saturday mornings were pretty much the only time I saw NEW cartoons that were GOOD. I liked the re-runs of loony toons that Nicleodeon would play but some of there other cartoons just sucked, but the Saturday morning cartoons were worth getting up for.

My point is that Saturday morning cartoons mean something to some of us younger than twenty-five, despite what the article stated.

I bet that if Intel took all the resourses that they put into Anti-Overclocking and put them into making better cooling methods for overclocked proccessors and then marketing that to the consumers they would make ALOT more money than they every will from restricting the user.
