You can't find anything about it on lkml because no one care about it, it's their problem. No one wants to waste time debugging a binary module for which you don't have the sources.
So if Linux starts relying on vendor supplied binary drivers then how would the community protect the stability and security of the OS? What would the Linux version of Microsoft's signed/certified drivers be? That would be NO binary drivers. You use binary drivers at your own risks.
Slackware is just another way to separate us true Geeks from the posers - and that's the way we like it.
True Geeks don't waste their time with a distro that doesn't have a serious package management, they have other things to do and they like to be efficient.
Huhuh, no, I'm joking, and I know Slackware is a good distro, but I just wanted to say you don't have to be using it to be considered as a true geek. Slackware is good because it's simple and let you do everything by yourself, but there are other good distros that are very customisable.
I don't really understand the RPM hell some people are talking about all the time. I'm usually running Debian at home, but at work we got differents versions of RedHat. When I need some software, either I use an RPM that is supposed to work on that version of RedHat if I find one (the RPMs from RedHat, apt-get with the dag apt rpm repository or some home-made RPMs mainly), or I compile it myself. And it's working fine.
While DJB has interesting ideas sometimes, his software are not open source, and he's stuck with his ideas. Even if his software are in general of good quality, they have the same problems as other proprietary software and don't get integrated very well into the system.
Thank Amireca for bringing Free Software ? Yes, there's some people in America writting free software, but there's also people from all around the world.
Not only Sun can support OOo, there's many other companies that can do it (it's Open Source). And even if they ask Sun, at least they won't be stuck with a proprietary format.
It's funny how many people outside France heard about thoses riots and think it was something very important. But actually, beeing in France, you wouldn't notice anything if you didn't listen to the news or to the people talking about it after they heard it on the news. I would say that 99% of the people living in France didn't see it from their own eyes and only heard about it on tv.
Any group of people who is sufficiently mentally defective to vote to allow the Nazis into your country so that they don't bomb your musems, is too mentally defective to be allowed a voice in any future decisions.
So what about all the people who voted for Bush ? And this one was not 60 years ago...
Maybe you should know that every country is supposed to be free to have its own opinions, they don't have to follow what America decide if they don't agree with something. Bush is not the master of the world, or at least not yet. If Chirac did not support War, it's because he thought it was not a good thing, not because he sees the USA as a threat.
Are you one of thoses people who think the USA has control over the earth and sees anything outside USA as a threat ?
Ultimately, we should all be installing anti-keylogging software right along with our anti-virus. That will work, until the forces of evil come up with the next generation of spyware.
For the moment it's fairly easy to find out when a machine has spyware. What would scare me is when a decent programmer will start to write such programs so that it is completely stealth and doesn't bring the machine to a grinding halt.
And what make you think it's not aldready happenned ? Maybe you're just not aware of it now.
The Sony rootkit has been running on thousands of computers for months without anyone to notice it... It's not as easy as you say to find out when a machine has spyware.
It's stupid, you can aldready find some rootkits source codes quite easily. Hiding the source for this is not what will prevent people from writting and using rootkits.

That's useless now, there is the internet for that.
Wrong, France is NOT hostile to OSS, at least not yet. And hopefully this law will never pass.
And I heard 20% of /.'s visitors don't read the articles.
Sorry but I can't see where in that text he says the USA or anyone else is an enemy.
Why do you doubt a free software can't replace one that cost millions ?

Those decisions are already made, settled, done, bought, and paid for.
...
And how do you think thoses decisions are made ? By reading "Enterprise" magazines of course
You probably watch too much FoxNews, Chirac never said that.

Look at this thread on the openbsd mailling list :

I guess it was a joke ... making fun of people who think America has all the powers.

If your computer is full of keyloggers, no matter how often you change your password, they will still get it.
No, if you want something secure, just avoid installing any shit on your computer, and keep your software updated.

Thanks to their website beeing slashdoted, maybe this will increase ?
It's aldready there.
Hey, get your act together, this was on Digg 50 minutes ago!
