  1. Where's my slate touchscreen net-tablet? on Touchscreen Netbooks To Shine At CES 2009 · · Score: 1

Never been a fan of convertible touchscreen laptops. Too heavy (and bulky) to be used as a tablet. Hell, even the few true tablet, non-convertibles PCs out there are too clunky.

What I'd really like to see is the MacBook Air in tablet only form. Something like an iPod Touch with a 10-13" screen, but just as thin (as the MacBook Air / iPod Touch). Apple, are you listening?!?

Failing this, how about something a little more down to earth:

I imagine many people didn't see much use for the telephone over snail mail or the motorized buggy over horse and cart. Their existing technology worked just fine for them at the time. While it's human nature to resist change and to stick with what we know, it's sad to think people actually "use" the internet on dial-up. Given that broadband can be provided for nearly the same cost as dial-up, it's entirely irrelevant if people "want" broadband. As mentioned above, I don't suppose we need broadband "evangelicals", but it sure would be nice to see US broadband availability on par with other first-world countries!

Bottom line; I'm not interested in advertisements one bit.
Be it TV/radio (won't watch live TV, ads FAR too obnoxious and mind-numbing), internet (ad block plus), or any where else I can reasonable avoid ads... I will go out of my way to avoid.

I've always wanted something that would do this (for windows)! If done with enough parity, poling systems for uptime and cpu/hdd/network utilization, both the client/network impact and "network disk" performance could be managed quite well I think.

Seems like it's only a matter of time before something comes along to provide this obvious function. Here's hoping its well thought out and coded, preferably a commercial app. I would have no problem justifying such an expense if such a product existed in polished form.

Think of all the data archiving (daily/weekly/monthly backup sets, etc) which could be done right in-house. Add a bit of encryption and stripe data in a manner so reconstruction would be near impossible with out all the parts...

  25. Here's why... on Name-Your-Cost Radiohead Album Pirated More Than Purchased · · Score: 1

    Convenience.

Users who are savvy enough to download torrents are more like to go the torrent route ANYWAY, even if the music is offered "free" from the musicians site, simply because it's far more convenient. No registration, no waiting in line, and while the bandwidth was fine for me -- downloaded from Radiohead's site at 1000k/sec, out of curiosity -- torrenting likely would have been much quicker (from start to finish). As if those reason's weren't enough, I'd hazard a guess that many torrent users appreciate the sense of "community", in sharing files for other users. Not all, but I'd say there is an element of "honor among theives"... sharing files to a good ratio for the average torrent user.

And, if you're curious, I didn't pay anything to Radiohead for this album because I never do buy CDs until I've listened to an album a half-dozen times and decide I like the music enough to buy it, which I usually do (used from eBay/Amazon). Sadly, this album did nothing for me and I promptly deleted it after one half-hearted attempt to get through the entire thing (sorry Radiohead fans). Still, KUDOS to the band for going this route, despite the nay-sayers.
