The biggest problem with this is that Nikon makes the best cameras, at least in my price range. I just bought a D70 and I can't tell if I regret the decision. It is definitely a better camera (and lens) than the Canon equivalent. I'm pissed at Nikon and sent them a letter to let them know, but I still think it's ridiculous to buy an inferior camera because of a relatively minor issue that has been successfully worked around in the OSS community.
Are all these "stuff Nikon" folks selling their $20,000 worth of lenses at cutrate prices? If so, where can I sign up?
My girlfriend is a reverse convert. After growing up on Macs, then owning an iMac and an iBook, she became so frustrated with them that she asked me to put together a PC for her. Since then she's upgraded to a Dell 3Ghz laptop and never looked back...
I think the Mac to PC converts are rare, however, because most people are attracted to the Old Navy wearing, Jetta-driving hipsters that sport Macs on TV...
Except that in this country (the US) the word "liberal" has been hijacked to mean socialist, or left wing. Libertarian is the new word for what liberal used to mean: someone who believes in complete economic and social freedom.
If it was something like... a civil war game and the NPC said, "I don't trade with niggers." That's one thing.. but refusing to trade with someone because they're a woman? Not really a big deal.. it's not like the NPC said, "Your place is either on your knees or in the kitchen."
What is this?? It's ok to treat people badly based on gender, but not based on race? How is it any different? This seems totally uncalled for.
It's annoying that camera manufacturers are moving this way and even though the camera is only 3.2megapixels its still annoying that you'll have to buy an additional card straight away as in the cameras finest mode you be able to save a total of five images.
That's some good writing!
This camera seems like a decent challenger for the Canon Digital Elph. Honestly I'm not disappointed in the lack of SD card, because generally they'll include a paltry 8MB or 16MB card. Save a few bucks on the purchase price and go buy a bigger card, makes sense to me.:)
If this thing does wheelies without any rider talent whatsoever, what is the appeal? Are they really hoping that extreme sport enthusiasts will want one? If so, they are completely off target. Extreme sports are not about cool gadgets, they're about having talent/skills and balls of steel, not to mention a certain level of testosterone.
I don't see who this benefits at all. I admire companies that take the time to research and develop genuinely new things, but it just seems like a waste in this case. I'd rather have a quad, or a dirtbike, for this kind of activity.
Yet another reason why reasonable computer users should be making regular backups. This may be an unusual case, but it makes the point: You can't ever trust software on your system. Always assume the worst and plan for it.
It's closer to 100%, in my experience. I think they've gotten worse recently. I don't understand why it is acceptable, honestly.
I recently copied a file to a brand new diskette to bring to a print shop. Since it was important, and I'm paranoid, I made 8 copies of the file to the disk. Get to the shop and we open it up and find the first 6 are bad. Good thing I'm paranoid!
... almost every extension I've tried had produced unstable behavior from Mozilla. Now I stick to the default, although admittedly I miss the extension behavior.
Thanks for explaining this so clearly. My question is this... When I first thought about the idea of compression (at age 13 probably), the first thing that popped into my head is the basic description of RLE that you gave above. It seems really obvious to me. So obvious, in fact, that I'm wondering why it's patentable?
I guess if you can patent "1 click" you can patent anything.
Well, considering I just bought this drive 2 months ago, and I'm bummed that new dual-layer drives are out... This is awesome news for me. Instead of spending $80-$100 on a new drive, I can upgrade mine for free!
... how can you even stand a single episode of Star Trek (any series)?? The bullshit meter is through the roof on those shows but you guys never complain.:P
My father just bought an '04 Civic LX and he gets 39MPG. That's not a hybrid, by the way.
My opinion, hybrids don't work. The batteries and motors add weight, and don't add enough power to make up for it. It's basically a break even proposition.
We need more cars with small engines, turbocharged for performance. That way you get the efficiency of a small engine, but the power of a larger engine (when needed) from the turbo. I really think turbo is the best way to build an efficient engine.
While I understand the irony of your post, it still blows my mind that we've gotten to the point where a 3800lb car is considered LIGHT. I drive a 2800lb sport coupe and honestly I feel like it's too heavy. I don't understand the need for cars heavier than 2500lb.
I guess you can just chalk me up as yet another person who's prou^H^H^H^H embarrassed to be an American.
This is just an application, it's not a patent yet.
It's called POSIX, and everyone supports it except Windows.
It's not a lie if you believe it.
I know you're joking but FYI it's a quote from the (very good) movie Network.

I don't know which FA you R'd, but the USA Today article linked in the post does not say this. It says the pilots were "temporarily distracted".

CD players are "digital music players", but your point is well taken.
It's a PDF, but it's much easier to read. I hate clicking a bunch of links to read a simple article.

Of course, my favorite manipulation of all was turning "liberal" into a slur. Since when did believing in freedom become a bad thing?
Actually, it's Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future.
Making IE use PNG alpha transparency
Now you can use PNGs willy nilly!

IT'S A GOOD MOVIE, JUST ENJOY IT.
