It's about time people realized cab drivers are going to be out of work when self driving cars arrive. With more and more people leasing new cars instead of buying, I think in the large urban centers, we will see not only the replacement of human taxi operators but also a shift from leasing cars to leasing rides from a large fleet. It just makes the most sense logistically.

Put the pipe down, AC. It wasn't $18,000 worth of lottery tickets, the winner was chosen based on performance (amount of referrals).. $18,000 was the cost of implementing his strategy. Which happened to be the best one. If someone else spent $19,000 on a less successful strategy, well that's the way the cookie crumbles.

You can call the boosted post-acquisition Jet.com stock value a windfall, but I find no reasonable way of calling it an "accident".

They still should not be returning coordinates if the location is unknown. We wouldn't be having this discussion--and there would be no lawsuit to worry about--if the database said "Sorry. I don't know where that is. But if you kindly look to the Country record, you will see that it is in an IP block used in USA"

  9. When there is no record, they should return no result at all. If that is not an option, at least return an obviously bogus location like, gee, I dunno.. 0,0. Which happens to be in the middle of an ocean. Choosing an arbitrary spot in the country is just plain idiotic. I hope they have to fork out the max in punitive damages for being such morons.

At less than $175, that's a steal. I've been waiting for something like this that could replace the discrete routers, ethernet switches, and Arduino programming slaves at my transmitter sites, which only have a few hosts each. There have been other multi-nic SBC's, but I have yet to see one this cheap.

There is no scenario in which I would remove the shielding. The next guy can install microcells and a fiber backhaul, if need be. The shielding will now be resisting external interference. It will be cheaper than tearing out the shielding, and cell service will be better than that of those establishments who rely on the tower.
