  1. Light comes in units of photons. Saying, "just a little bigger than a single photon," doesn't make sense. Was it two photons? Is this an artifact of averaging and poor journalism, where the target was really 1 photon, and sometimes more are released?

It's a photon with just a smattering of gluon the side.

  2. Yes that is a thing. And it's bad and histoy is replete with examples. Amazon has well over a 90% share in some sectors. What's reasonable for most companies is not reasonable for a company with a 90% market share.

How about an 89% share? An 88% share? An 87% share? At what level is it reasonable, and how exactly do you determine that?

Except instead of using common sense you're just "hurr derrr gubbmint is teh evul!!11!11oneelevenONE11!11"

Common sense is allowing consenting adults to make their own decisions. Without interference from an obtrusive third party. Yes, that is a thing. And it's bad and history is replete with examples.

I wonder if the upgrade was worth it?

  4. So? what's different in this case?

Stop using common sense, regulators need to regulate. The argument you're going to see is "Consumers are too stupid to make their own decisions. What could be worse for consumers than being able to buy a quality Amazon item at a lower price than a brand name item? It's unfair that Amazon can make comparable items at lower prices AND also sell them on their own site! Abusing market position, monopoly power, other scary words to justify our existence!!!"

If you see the examples in TFA about the National Mall, it's not that people are trash for leaving trash behind, it's that the dedicated bins to leave said trash are actually being used as expected by normal decent people, but are not being emptied and thus are overflowing with garbage.

Yeah there's some grubs out there, but in this case the people attempting to do the right thing are unable to do it.

Yes, please! So far, I can figure out if a variable is divisible by 3, or if it's divisible by 5, but the AI for detecting if a variable is divisible by 3 AND 5 has been a real challenge. I'm sure some funding will really help move it along. The name of my company is Cloud Artificial Blockchain Intelligence. We're leveraging blockchains in the cloud to use artificial intelligence to 3D print drones that are capable of livestreaming Ninja while he's playing Fortnite. It's going to be HUGE!

Maybe it's a generational thing? I'd sincerely like to hear someone explain to my why this is a thing.

Now do you understand? It's not a generational thing - every previous generation watched others play games. This generation has another game to watch. Nothing has changed.

Switching the words doesn't make your case. In most instances, you're not listening to the football players themselves blather. They don't get extensive individual airtime. I watch soccer, I've played it all my life and watch it religiously but I find no appeal in the NFL - I think it's a really boring game. To say you don't see the appeal in watching Fortnite is akin to me saying I don't see the appeal in American Football but difference is I don't denigrate those who do

I'm not denigrating anyone.I said I don't understand the appeal of watching a video game--I'd much rather play one than watch someone else. I used to play football, hockey, baseball & basketball and still enjoy watching those occasionally. I enjoyed playing soccer, but I find that tedious to watch.

It seems odd that you'd mock, given that's the context I was referring to. It's dangerous to play pro sports, and it's expensive as well. You probably don't know anyone who can afford to put together a NASCAR team.

The folks making big money in competitive gaming are very good at what they do. I would stand the same chance of winning a game of horse against Steph Curry, or a race against Jeff Gordon as I would a game of Fortnite against Ninja.

I'm not doubting their talent, and the fact that I can't beat them doesn't mean that I'd find it interesting to watch them. I can't do plumbing as good or as fast as a pro, but I wouldn't want to watch a live stream of them installing a sink.

Few of us will ever be among the best in the world. It's fun to watch the best in the world do their thing. Even more so when we understand the nuances and difficulties in their accomplishments.

Most of those activities for the average person are either physically dangerous, prohibitively expensive, or both. I'm reasonably certain that most of the people watching these streams already have a computer/console/smartphone capable of playing the games that they're watching others play. The average person can participate without physical danger or extreme expense. Therein lies the difference to me.

  18. So socialism is now defined as helping the people who need it most? The poor and elderly.

Socialism is the redistribution of wealth, so yeah, I suppose it is.

"Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain."
