    I've spent 10 years providing 24/7 365 support for multiple clients. All night, All weekend if needed.

    Wife/kids/dogs and I go to the beach or mountains, I have my laptop. And have had to frequently tackle issues while on vacation.

    I bought a mini Asus laptop when we last went to Disney World, Sea World and water park. I thankfully didn't have any issues during that week, but I was prepared.

    My wife and I have on been prime for several years and have generally agreed with the reviews after we have received and used the product.

    Household, Grocery, Electronics and Computers as well as Children's toys for birthdays and holidays.

    We are generally pretty happy with the convenience and price. I work from home and would rather UPS/USPS/FedEx bring boxes to our home 4-5 times a week than wander around the local big boxes.

    Someone is going to figure out a different way to beat them.

    Walmart is trying.. I have a Walmart just 5 minutes away. I go there occasionally, but 90% of their product is crappily built shit from China. That goes for most of he big box stores.

    How about opening a store full of products with High ratings? That's the way to beat them. Don't carry crap. Carry the best products with the best reviews at good prices(There are many times that I would drive a few minutes and pay a few extra $ for the convenience of having it Now)

    I delivered pizza in college. 2 large Everything pizza's and 4 litres of Diet Coke. Who orders that? Yep, every time. Like the Diet Coke is going to offset 4 slices of Everything pizza.

    I see it our community pool every summer. Some of these kids I don't see for 8 months. They come down each summer a little larger. Kids drink Diet Coke and then eat 4 hotdogs or 2 burgers. I see it every weekend. People eat multiple burgers/hotdogs, chips and fatty dip, strawberries with pound cake and whip cream, all while sipping their slimming Diet Coke.

    Yep, this is it. I have 12-14 character passwords that are all highly secure with numbers, capitals and shift characters, different for every site, that I can just type off the top of my head.

    Just need a pattern or algorithm. I use pattern, date shift, keyboard slide(i.e. w=q, q=p), shift.

    I've used this for the past 17 years and never needed a password manager.

    The only time I have issues is with a very few sites that do not allow shift characters(!@#$%^&*()).

    This is why I am not worried about landfills.

    Eventually(Sometime in the next 20 years), there will be technology to Mine landfills.

    Every scrap of copper, aluminium and rare metals will be extracted from the waste piles. The rest will be turned into energy.

    Someone will come up with technology to make it profitable.

    I am certain of it.

    I absolutely love iDrive. I have used it for years.

    I TB $52/year. Everything backed up. Unlimited computers/devices. I have 9 computers and 3 phones all backed up automatically.

    Even though I use source control, I occasionally mess something up. iDrive keeps 10 versions of my source files. Saved my ass several times over the years.
    I'm wondering what happens when we do pass 1 TB as the the site shows only a 10TB plan for $374/year. I would like a 2TB plan(You might be able to call sales and negotiate)

    Honestly though, if my only option was the 10TB plan, I would do it. It would be worth it with all of the features.

    It All starts with Sodas, but I am not sure where it goes from there.

    I have just returned from our community swim meet. Kids drink multiple sodas and get heavy and swim slow.

    Kids drink water with the occasional small portion of soda stay lean and swim fast.

    My wife and I have observed this for the past 12 years at our community pool with ~400 members. Slim kids drink water mostly, heavy kids always have a Coke in hand. 24, 32, 48 oz behemoths.

    Years ago when I went to school there were the couple of Fat Kids. Now MOST Kids are Fat. And they are always drinking Sodas.

    They must have put a lot of thought and effort into this. I'm betting that they are working on all of those things.

    It's also L E G O. They have a H U G E built in fan base.

    I am not sure that this will win, but I am far from skeptical.

    How good are these things against false alarms?

    Imagine a bunch of teenagers get together and all pound their ceiling near the sensor.

    From a previous post:

    Elevators can stop at the next floor and open their doors.
    Nuclear power plants can insert their control rods.
    Toll bridges can close their gates so no more cars go onto the bridge.
    Same for tunnels.
    Gas valves can shut off.
    Turbines can slow down or stop.
    Sirens can sound in tsunami zones.
    Active seismic control systems can apply tension.
    Bank vaults can lock.
    Automatic security systems can be notified to prevent a flood of false alarms.
    Data centers can sync their HDDs and start their diesel generators.
    Fire station roll up doors can automatically open, so they don't jam closed in the quake.
    Commuter trains can slow down and stop.
    Approaching aircraft can be delayed or diverted.
    Traffic lights can go to all-red.

    And it's just a bunch of teenagers pounding on the ceiling.

    I live outside of Atlanta.

    Every couple years when the the Hurricanes and Tropical Storms pick up in the Gulf/Florida area we will catch a bit of the rain band/winds and occasionally a major rain dump or two.

    It never feels like the stifling heat we get in July/August and it's usually kind of pleasant(Until some serious thunderstorm bands roll over). Overcast, cool breeze, you can actually smell the ocean from over 300 miles away.

    Hurricanes also peak in September, usually after the major heat of summer.

    Older Corollas and Civics(and many others), Yes. Very reliable and safe cars.

    Pulsar(Hell no!) Dad bought my brother one that was 3 years old. Always in the shop. You would not need this monitor on the Pulsar, they were absolute slugs. So much in fact that I consider them dangerous. It was such a slug that when driving you were unable to Avoid trouble. I actually(on my brothers behalf) took he and dad on a test drive to prove to dad it was dangerously slow and unresponsive.

    Same feelings here.

    I would have hated it, but in 5 years my oldest is getting something like this.

    I went ape shit when I got my first car, quite literally trying to emulate Dukes of Hazard(Filmed in my hometown BTW). Most all of us have some regret on their youth, but I am very lucky to be alive.

    I have 2 friends and a relative at 3 different universities that hold higher positions within different science departments.

    Each of them said these 3 things to me.

    That is not what the eventual immigration compromise will be.

    Republicans will get their H1B's to help the corporations. The Democrats will get some form of amnesty.

    Our(IT workers) wages will go down and taxes go up as millions of millions of new citizens taking free healthcare and other government benefits.

    It's bleak, the worst of both worlds.

    There is a good way around that that I have used for years. Don't use the current date. Use M-1 and Y-1(that's not exactly how I do it, but similar).

    Also pick a couple of words and abbreviate them.

    If your favorite Ice Cream is Cookies and Cream, you might choose a monthly password like this
    Cok1113Crm#g - google password
    Cok1113Crm#e - espn password

    Easy to remember and always gets very secure score and a similar but not exact password across sites.

    I think this is actually the key thing in this discussion.

    I left their DSL and phone for Comcast a couple of years ago and cannot be happier. My Internet with Comcast Absolutely Rocks, Uverse just cannot match the speeds I'm getting with cable.

    They cannot compete with thin copper on internet speeds, so they are diversifying to video content.

    I will never go back to them.

    The problem:
    Comcast, (who's service I Love right now) will most definitely take advantage of this in the future and find a way to screw me. And I will have no true alternative.

    I bought 1 on my 21" Hitachi SuperScan Elite's in 1996 and the other 2 in 1997.

    Been using them non stop(day and night) for work and play for 16-17 years.

    Instant gratification is not worth a $30 surcharge.

    I would be willing to pay extra sometimes for instant gratification(not $40 for a $10 cable, but maybe $20), but not for an inferior product.

    I'm finding it harder and harder to pull off the purchase at a local Walmart/Target/Lowes/Home Depot/Etc. for anything priced over $50. I've bought so much cheap ass China made crap from those stores that breaks within a year or two.

    I Like ratings. If those stores would allow me to see their ratings(App?), I might pay a little bit extra on the weekend for a must have, but do Not sell me crap. Afraid of the Ratings, then do not sell the crap.

    My family loves prime. Hell, I would seriously consider $199/year just for prime.

    I'm busy as hell, my wife is busy as hell.

    Between the kids swimming/soccer/balet, we have no extra time that we want to spend shopping for the various things we need not available in our immediate vicinity. We buy all kinds of things that are not readily available in our area(And many that are cheaper).

    I don't want to go shopping on the weekends, we ride bikes, get outdoors, garden.

    If I could get Same Day delivery(as has been rumored) and groceries I might pay $500+/year just for the convenience. Add up all of the gas/time/etc. going to town or the city.
