Before people start mocking Russians, and their food situation, just let me say that I ate more of, and better quality food when I was in Russia than I usually do in the UK. Salo though, is horrible stuff.
Even better. Include a file from that server in the main page of slashdot, such as an image. However, this is just vigilantism. I have more bandwidth than you, so I'm right. A war doesn't show who is right, just who is left.
I've often thought that the ultimate denial of service attack would be if you could change the IP in the A record for www.google.com to that of any other site would render the site unaccessible. (Unless it was big enough to cope.) Anyone got root@ns1.akamai ?:)
Would being a member even make it technically possible for them to "sniff" the traffic? I'm a member of the exclusive Internet One club, and I can't sniff arbitary traffic.
How will they address the video capture mode of new phones then? Require the light to stay on all the time? Make it emit an annoying bleep while it is recording? Battery life will suffer too. Sure to be popular.
The only stupid question is an unasked one.
Any fool can ask a question which the wisest of men cannot answer.
Too many cooks spoil... Wait, no, that's nothing to do with it.

The Music Man

· Score: 1
Let's suppose that Diana Krall's greatest hits and I can only find it at 96Kbps
I have some MP3s on my server, which is in a remote country - Russia? China? erm, Chile?:) and I would buy a CD of them if I know where I could buy them from. Stuff that's either a white label, or unknown, or out of stock. It's not just people not wanting to pay for Britney. Some of it is people that have found new music, and can't find it anywhere else.
Also - I've actually realised that I buy DVDs after I have downloaded a film, and watched it, and LIKED IT. If I don't like it, I don't buy it. And I certainly don't blow £10-20 on a random film I haven't seen. I'd say that my use of P2P ends up with me spending more than if I didn't use it.
create a series of passwords, which may be as simple as adding a number to the end.
Yeah, that's what I do. I use ^^tw3xJJs (which is my base password), and then add a letter to the end from across the top row. I'm on u at the moment. I'm not sure whether to start the second row starting asdf... or lkjh... Any ideas?
For a long time, the Cisco (who bought from Altiga) VPN Concentrator 3000 web interface didn't work with Firefox, or Mozilla. I had to RDesktop to a Windows Terminal Server, and use it via IE from there.
One software upgrade, it started working. People (in this case Cisco), are obviously receiving lots of "It doesn't work in Firefox" requests, and are listening. I personally have used Mozilla/Firefox for years now, and I haven't found much that doesn't work. If I did, I wouldn't use the site. If I really had to, I'd write/email/contact the site owner, and STILL not use the site. I refuse to buy hardware with no Open Source drivers, much as I'd like a snazzy GFX card. I refuse to use a site that won't work in Firefox. I wish other people would take a stand, instead of giving in easily.
I would have thought that the Internet had more.

Wal-Mart's Data Obsession

· Score: 4, Interesting
Who says how much data the Internet has available?
Whenever a drive is considered binable due to it dying, I always drop it from about 10 cms onto my desk. Occasionally, (if it's not down to electronics), it can jolt it back into life. Then it's boot from a Gentoo Live CD, and backup everything quickly over NFS.
A little gem I heard a while ago: There are 2 kinds of people. Those that have lost data, and those that will.
Does anyone know what the law says in the UK? I'd like to do more urban/street photography, but I want to have a leg to stand on if someone starts to get funny.

Windows?
If anyone wanted to listen to my Icecast streams, or the ogg recordings I made, I always pointed them at Winamp, as it worked, and was free. And I couldn't be bothered answering lots of questions about codecs, and stuff.
What's the best thing now?

It's been a long time since I read it - but I don't remember this? Can anyone explain where this darkness lies?

Calums radical idea. Why can't we simply remove strcat and strcopy from glibc (or provide a patch that does the same)?
Once the users start moaning that package-foo.1.2.3 fails with Unknown function: strcopy, or whatever, developers will soon moving to the new calls.
No, of course not. But who then gets to deem what is needed for Destruction (tm)? Slashdot next? Indymedia? Google? (Perhaps not :) )

Rouge = French for red.
Rogue is probably what you meant.

Although that was most likely a typo, it strikes me as a good name for an Asian Linux. Lucy Liu, perhaps?
All of us are in the gutter. It's just that the stars are looking at some of us.
I wonder if this propoganda would work?
How will they address the video capture mode of new phones then? Require the light to stay on all the time? Make it emit an annoying bleep while it is recording? Battery life will suffer too. Sure to be popular.
Im sure no-one will figure out putting their finger over the flash, or taping something over it, or opening up the phone, and cutting wires.
Wicked! Soon the US will be able to get a missile to any point in the world in a few minutes. That'll help make the world a happier place.
