    Excellent advice. 25 is WAY too young. You simply don't have enough experience under your belt, bro. The best thing you could do is express your desire to be there in 10 years to this new IT manager and LEARN from him. See if you he'll take you under his wing. You need exposure to different companies, budget processes, advanced troubleshooting (networks, new appliances, firewalls, etc.), way more experience dealing with others in business (no offense, but your generation gets very poor marks in professionalism), and more time at one company.

    I'll be 36 this year and I'm finally a "junior" IT director at a marketing firm, but I did get a break. But I've been working a long time and realize I still have quite a bit to learn before I could ever replace my boss.

    I'm not saying it's done the US very well. The conditions here are shit. Driver's ed is also a joke (compared to, say, Germany). And we're doing one hell of a job guzzling down oil. Our reliance on cars has destroyed plenty here.I guess the only real diffs are the population densities and air pollution, which is more than most of you could fathom in India (and most of SE Asia).

    Good point that most can't afford this car....yet.

    the growth of car ownership in India is going to be one of the worst disasters to hit that country. Just like in China, where car ownership for a billion people is destroying millions of acres of land (roads) and eating up untolds amount of oil. Driver's ed is non-existent, the roads are awful, there are no rules on the road. If you've ever been to India and driven on the roads (and I'm not talking about the insane cities streets) you'll find out very quickly how terrifying that drive can be. Putting a billion more people in cars is not the way to a good future - not for India and not for the rest of the planet. Building a cheap ass car like this will only doom us faster...

    Why? Here we have Sony - as always - coming out with it's own proprietary format. Look back at Betamax , it's stupid memory sticks, those god-awful PCs with goofy ass monitor and keyboard connections.... When will it end? As soon as Sony BluRay came out, I knew it was doomed. Since when has a Sony-developed, proprietary technology won? I may be wrong, but I can't think of any.

    Other than Apple (now), few companies in the consumer realms are successful with this sort of strategy.

    Gee, 100 million of them have been sold and one defective one constitutes a lawsuit? I'd wait to see what Apple does. Regardless, I'm sure this dude will sue because this is his chance to say he was "damaged" in some way or harmed for life. I'm taking bets now on how quickly that happens.

    That's not the point. The point is, this doesn't warrant a lawsuit. No one was harmed by this. Yet, who will benefit from it? The two retards who got lawyers will get what exactly? Another laptop that displays "more" colors that they will never be able to see or use? This is such a load. This type of rabid entitlement is disgusting, ties up our court system and makes millionaires out of manipulative, opportunistic shitheads who don't deserve a dime for supposedly being "harmed" or representiving people claiming to be "victims."

    As always, the only ones who will benefit from any ruling against Apple will be for the scumbag attorneys who make a killing of filing these bullshit class action lawsuits. These douchebags try to find the smallest things to generate millions of dollars through manipulating the legal system. I got a letter for a class action suit against some consumer products company a few months ago. In the letter, it stated that I agreed with the legal fees the attorneys were charging which amounted to roughly $10 million. How much did I stand to make? About $5, if that.

    This is just another in a lonnnnnnnnnng line of legal extortion that our court systems propagate.

    Psychologically, I feel a hell of a lot better when it's lighter out later. I know there are millions of people who have some sort of seasonal depression thing that are equally as delighted. I don't know if it saves any energy, but driving home from work when it's nice and bright out and being able to go for a nice walk or something in sunlight makes me happy.

    $600 for a cell phone (with AT&T/Cingular nonetheless....) and something that does virtually the same thing my $150 Palm VX does? No thanks. Way too expensive and I agree with those pointing out the bad decision to keep it a closed device. Open it up and allow the people to decide how to use it.

    I always thought the more a certain product or technology was adopted, the lower the price would be. But if you have regular cable internet from companies like Cablevision, you're paying between $45-55 PER MONTH! They raise the price EVERY YEAR. I finally got "smart" and switched to AT&T DSL, which is only $24.99/mo, even though it's at a slower speed than cable. But the savings per month is different. I think it's funny/ironic/sad that the company that basically made broadband mainstream now lags so far behind, of all places, China.

    I see what you're saying, but the population density is magnitudes higher, especially in SE Asia, most American cities. I believe you are referring to the flu pandemic in the early 1900s? I don't think the world's population was more than a billion back then.

    Playing devil's advocate, I think a bird flu pandemic is exactly what this planet needs right now. We've added a billion people and welcomed two billion+ populated nations to the industrialized world and we're destroying most of our natural resources. I think a pandemic that could potentially reduce this burden, especially in SE Asia where those countries seem hell bent on destroying the environment in just about every way. Call me sick, but I don't have faith in humanity to reel itself in when it comes to development and consuming more and more in the future. The only solution is fewer consumers.

    If it's in the same industry, area, etc and you suspect there could be even a hint of competition, then just tell them nothing of your future plans. I think this case should serve as a reminder for EVERYONE to look out for #1 - and that's you. Companies DO NOT give a shit about you one way or another. If any of you saw that study that came out yesterday, you'd see that we have the WORST benefits in the industrialized world. Why? Greed and no care for the well-being of employees.

    I often wonder how anyone can be a loyal dog ("company man") these days. I see so many and laugh at them. Some even tell me there's something wrong with me for not thinking of the company first. Then they get burned (like I have twice) and then they understand....

    While their claims MAY be a bit exaggerated, you have to look back and see how destructive widespread computer use has really been. Remember 10 years ago or so everyone was saying more computers would = paperless society? Quite the opposite has happened, actually. The use of paper has skyrocketed to new proportions since 1995. Billions of tons of computer scrap has already been dumped, but mostly in China because they'll take anything we send over there. There have been plenty of articles about the mercury-laden landfills and communities there, with people scavenging around looking for valuable metals, etc. while the environment is ravaged by all the contaminants present in older computers that have been dumped.

    I still don't see why the world is going to rush out and buy Vista. I wouldn't recommend to ANY of my customers to even consider upgrading for a minimum of six months because there is going to be quite the bug-fest with Vista 1.0. Besides, what's the real upside over XP? Security? Ha!

    I've dealt with this particular family for a few years and the mother always let her teenage son download all sorts of porn, even though he's under 18, and laughed about it. She called me last week to fix her laptop and I found a ton of child porn on it. I brought it to the local PD and awaiting the outcome.

    I've been doing house calls and such for about 5 years and have never had this happen. I've seen some bizarre shit on people's machines, but nothing illegal before this. I have a baby daughter and I asked myself "Knowing what I know now about this kid, would I ever want him near my daughter? No. If he's searching for this shit, I don't want to let this go and then read 5 years down the road he molested somebody and I didn't do anything about it."

    I'm just glad I didn't spend much time working on the computer, because I'm pretty sure they aren't paying me now!
