At my University, Most of the classes have brand new books(none are less than a hundread dollars) every semester. This is too keep people from buying cheeper used books or getting FREE books from classmates who already took the class.
I remember plenty of times in high school where teachers have lied about a situation and blamed students for their screwups/problems. The principle would believe the teacher 98% of the time, usually not even listening to the student's side of the story. Teachers are human too.
This is the trend of parents this day and age. They let everyone but themselves raise their kids and then blame everyone but themselves when those kids go on a shooting spree.
This is probably why it won't last. While there are good teachers, it seems there are a lot more bad/lazy ones. I am sure as soon as enough lazy teachers start feeling threatened by cameras that might actually make them work, that they will have the teachers union ban it.
This reminds me of the early days of the internet and porn. ISP were very rare and most people only thought, that new fangle internet thing is just for schools and to send messages..why would I want it? So Isp's grew slowly, then when the news started to warn parents that your kids can get porn online came out...suddenly demand skyrocketed almost overnight and everybody suddenly had an interest in this new medium...and the rest is history. Anyway, the lesson is clear, if they had kept their mouths shut they could have minimized the problem but the more they talk about it the more people will know about it and want to try it out.
Copyright Reform? Perhaps it will happen in some distant future after we are all worm food but not likely. I do agree with you that it would be nice if it was possible, but there is WAY to much corporate control over congress to consider the idea seriously. I do think that taking stuff is wrong withought paying the author, But only new stuff. If it is older stuff I think it should go to public domain and damn whatever corporate lawyers say. where is the incentive to create stuff if there is no IP law? I counter, where is the incentive to create anything NEW with the current one?
OK, Movies are making more money than ever(the good ones anyway), DVD's are selling like hot cakes, and the movie indistry is losing money HOW? Even if they were losing money, I can't feel to sorry about it when you hear about the leading actor(s) making 6 to 8 million dollors to star in it. Here is an idea, instead of getting some famous actor and paying them all that money how about trying out some NEW actors to play the part.
How about the theaters stop putting ads in the movies. I used to go to the movies to have an ENJOYABLE experience and not suffer the same crap I have to on T.V. but since the ads started to come on I just can't stand to go anymore.
When they don't even lie on why the hired him. Its already been stated that he has NO EXPERIENCE with the music indistry and the only reason he got the job is because of his political influence in Congress. Doesn't this fall under OBVIOUS political bribery? He gets his buddies to pass RIAA laws and he gets a nice paying job. I thought there was laws against that?
The AA's pays both parties. It is just that they send the most money to the party that has the most influence at the time. Right now it is the Republicans turn.
I can see the new spam of tommorrow:
"Hi, I am becky and 18, turn on your repicator so we can have an intimate relationship"
*turns on replicator* Out pops out a sumo wrestler that kicks your ass and then a salesman who offers to call ambulance if you sign up with their medical insurance.
While I like to find out what games are coming out, sometimes I wish that they would wait and not mention anything until it goes gold master. I can't say I am surprised about the delay though, There was already hints that this might be the case when we didn't get ANY new info at E3, besides most popular games are usually delayed for one reason or another and that is too be expected. It is just when the delays go from months to years that things start to get sour.
Compared to spending the man hours and money wasted every time they have to comply with a RIAA subpeona? Considering that P2P will not go away, no matter how many laws are passed against it, the schools will always be getting subpeonas whenever the RIAA gets a hissy fit. Overall, it will cost the schools a LOT more in the long run if they DON'T make a stand.
Seriously, People should write/call/send flying carrier pengions or whatever it takes to get your congressman to AT LEAST change that part of the DMCA. Its stupid LAWS like this that makes the whole legal system seem like a joke.
Before the ISP's just get fed up with this and lobby congress to have some sort of protection clause against these lawsuits. I remember reading a while back that all these subpoenas are costing the ISP's a fair amount of money since they have to use there own employees (that should be doing other things) into spending a LOT of man hours and money in getting the info that the RIAA is demanding. Considering that the lawsuits and subpoenas are getting more numerous, there has to be a point where they say the hell with it and brib..er give campaign contributions to there own congressman.
Please mod up. If enough negative feedback comes in they will scrap it.
Universities get most of there money back at sports games. That is why so much money is spent on them and less is spent on the academics.

Crap, no more leaving the class for a smoke!

I am sure this feature will be added when the schools figure out that they can charge the parents for the privilige of checking up on their children

I would like to see automakers make a CHEAP car instead.

I honestly think movie piricy is on the rise simply because it is too much a pain to go to movies and being FORCED to watch the commercials.
ANOTHER commercial before they show the movies at the theaters...I forget, why do we go to theaters again?
Perhaps everybody should get a degree in law since that will be the only business that will be left after a few years.
