Give someone a Treo 650 and Sprint's $10/month unlimited data plan, and watch 'em go nuts. Cell phones that have web browsing capabilities can be extremely powerful if coupled with a reasonable data plan.
The Treo 650 is the purchase I've ever made. There's nothing quite like reading/. while in the passenger seat of the car.
If I found an executable on an MP3 player, the very first thing I would do is open it in a hex editor and try to determine what it does.
For example, the US release of Atelier Iris for Playstation 2 includes a Win32 executable stub in its RPK.BIN file... along with some other interesting things like the GPL, but that's beside the point.
I managed to dig out the Win32.exe and the first thing I did was run a virus scan on it... poked around at it a bit more in a hex editor (I got curious because I saw multiple references to "LWO" and thought "hohoho, lightwave object viewer, kickass"... so I finally ran it, to find out that it was a part of some type of LWO viewer. I was very amused.:)
Additionally, the Japanese version of BeatMania Best Hits for Playstation contains a huge.lzh file of the source code as one of the dummy files.;)
Of course having a virus of this nature on shipping hardware is something completely different, but shit happens.
Have you actually tried running the SNES emulator for Gameboy Advance?
Try that, then come back and let us know how you do in games like Mortal Kombat, or even Super Mario World, where you need extra buttons that don't exist.
Also, tell me what you think about the sound... oh wait, it doesn't support sound.;)
The SNES emulators for GBA and N-Gage are crap. I don't know about the N-Gage one, but the GBA one doesn't even have sound emulation!
The closest I've come to good SNES emulation on a handheld is SNES9xj4u for my PocketPC. It can run some games full frames WITH sound. It just sucks that my iPaq 2215 isn't really made for game-playing... the buttons are too small. D:
It's extremely exciting to know that the developer of SNES9xj4u is also working on PSP emulators (the first announced Gameboy emu for PSP was coded by this person)...because I know they'll work well.
Also, your statement about "maybe they should just play their full sized console on their full sized TV" holds no water for me. My PSP and DS both live on my nightstand. Every night, before I go to sleep, I have a 20-30 minute gaming session. If I fall asleep with the portable in my hands, who cares, it's plugged in. If I'm trying to fall asleep, it's annoying to have to get up and turn off the PS2/whatever before finally retiring for the night.
I've beaten more RPGs that way...:) Also, these emulators will be sure to have save state functions, so playing games a few minutes at a time will absolutely be possible.
It's pretty exciting. I'll finally get around to beating games like Final Fantasy V, Bahamut Lagoon, and possibly... hopefully, Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean.
I really hope this exploit turns out to be real, but if it's not, it's just a matter of time before someone else figures one out.
The PSP is the most ideal portable for SNES emulation at least that I've seen. The buttons are mostly in the right places, the screen is huge and beautiful, and memory sticks are perfect for storing ROMs and saves.
Bleh... this guy didn't grow up with Final Fantasy like I did. I remember sitting in my 4th grade classroom, reading the Nintendo Power Final Fantasy strategy guide for silent reading time, then trading my Super GameBoy and some games to a classmate in 8th grade so I could get my hands on the coveted Final Fantasy III (6j) since none of the rental stores carried it.
I remember saving allowance money for months to afford Dragon Warrior IV, with its hefty 59.99 price tag from Toys R Us...
I played the heck out of these games, and cannot say the same about the 'next gen' iterations (Dragon Warrior VII as an exception, but just because the game is so damn long, and seemed to hold my attention)
I don't think the problem is that Square-Enix is stagnating... I think it's getting increasingly more difficult to hold the gamer's attention who grew up with these games. I remember crying when Celes lept off the cliff in FFIII (FF6), but the famous 'death of Aerith' in FFVII completely failed to evoke the same reaction. It was too predicted, and scripted... though the music was tear-jerking.
Anyway, I don't think the games are going anywhere. Square-Enix needs to reach harder into the younger market though, and bring in new fans to the series.
It's an original Gameboy. You know, Gameboy Color, monochrome Gameboy - the big carts instead of the smaller ones... four buttons and a d-pad instead of 6 buttons and a d-pad.
Different processor, apples and oranges.
I'm sure that zooming and other things aren't implemented yet, just like sound playback isn't implemented yet. I would consider this emulator an alpha release, at best.
There are some GB ROMs of ports of the great Infocom text adventures available if you can find them......I'd much rather see a port of those to the DS though, where you could tappy-tappy on the touch-screen with the stylus to enter keys instead of having to use control pad and buttons.
the holybell.to guy is the one who made SNES9xJ4U, which is the world's fastest and best SNES emulator for PocketPC. Two thumbs up, highly recommended.:)
...it makes sense that keyloggers are the phishing tool of choice now.
Instead of downloading and running an attachment, all you may have to do to become 'infected' is click on a hyperlink while on an unpatched system. I got one of these via ICQ the other day. It appears that what used to be a legitimate site was either DNS poisoned or taken over completely - http://www.azafrica.com
Here's what my Application log had to say about it:
The description for Event ID ( 1900 ) in Source ( HHCTRL ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the/AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. McAfee caught the offending.ani file and quarantined it, but I'm patched up.
Phishers will keep on trying... it's fascinating, really. Patch your damn systems and disable IE.:P
Sounds like nonsense to me. I don't see why Sony would see any harm in playing around with the included web browser. Kiddies who go around creating portals for it and touting as a "hack" need to settle down.
I suppose someone called them and said "Pay us 1.5 million dollars immediately or else we'll submit this story to Slashdot and your site will be DDoSed for the next 24 to 48 hours!"...I guess they didn't pay up.:)
mpg, definitely yes. avi, most no, unless you copy the previously downloaded chunk (assuming your p2p program downloads linearly instead of random chunks of the file) and open it in something like VirtualDub.
My town only has an EB, and not a GameStop. Maybe if they're turning it into a GameStop, they'll start selling $1.99 used strategy guides.
Don't knock used games. If you know what you're looking for, you can make a killing selling the stuff. I picked up a used, great condition copy of Valkyrie Profile up at the GameStop in the next town for 39.99 (omg highway robbery!?), cleaned the sticker gunk off of it, and sold it on eBay for $91.00.;D

Why does this sound like some Mac/iPod anonymous fanatic kicking dust?
...because you're reading SlashDot. It probably is. -_-
ps2 and xbox both launched at 300$...
The news stories may be cooling off, but the eBay madness has just started to brew.
I can't believe people are considering this game "rare" even though literally millions of copies were printed. Oh well.

For the record, I believe Jar Jar was shown in two scenes. He did not utter a single peepza in either.
Hah. :D The Gateway Destination series... I remember drooling over those in the Gateway store when they first came out.
Of course now I have a 56" DLP with DVI input... heheh. 'twas a nice try, though.
It is not a bloody Gameboy ADVANCE emulator.
:(
It is a monochrome Gameboy/Gameboy Color emulator.
Different processor, different emulation method.
You could fit hundreds of GB/GBC carts on a 1GB Duo stick. Many of them are 32K or smaller.
....because it's not a GBA that's being emulated.

:)
I'm not sure when that will be cracked. I do look forward to it, though.
I refuse to update my firmware any more though, for sure.

Funny. The guy who won the auction was in Spain, and I'm not sure how good his English is, since he sent all his correspondence in Spanish. ;)
That's about the going price for that game anyway, if you look at completed auctions.

If you don't have a SSN, you can't become legally employed, nor will you ever build any credit. That's a pretty silly move.
drop me an email and I'll hook you up. oddigy@gmail.com :)
Ah, thank you Steve Gibson from grc.com for that lovely nickname.
