    So... the record company is trying to cover its a$$ in case I decide to make copies of Britney Spears to torture my cat? We're not talking about fire arms here. It's bad enough they try to claim they are losing money, but let's not try to claim that they are simply protecting themselves from all those evil, cd-burning, thieving teenagers trying to do harm.

    This doesn't even seem to be borderline. From what it says in the Washington Post article they examined the eggs before being fertilized. Cleared eggs were fertilized later.

    Even St. Thomas Aquinas can't object to this. The discarded eggs were not fertilized. Of course, he might have been upset that he missed out on the fun part...

    Wow, who would have thought that the web is a great way to express yourself? Now if I only had the time to google around all day wading through all of the crap. This site, by the way, is a great way to motivate the importance of editors who make sure that the text is clear but who can also be censors themselves!

    • There would be no sales tax and no income tax, and we'd all wonder why our children are illiterate... wait a second...

    Many animals experience something called the "Alee Effect." If you can drive down the population to a small enough number then they will eventually die out. For example, maggots can feed more efficently in large groups. If their numbers are low enough it then becomes more difficult to feed which lowers their probability of survival.

    The problem here is that insects are notorious for getting through these sorts of "bottlenecks." They are much better adapted to recover from small numbers than larger animals (especially the charismatic mega-fauna that we all know and love).

    They can spend a boat load of money to have the population reduced for a few years, but the population has a very high probability of bouncing back to its current levels.

    Yeah -- I'm bitter. The TV in my house will be off for the month of February. The networks won't be getting my eyeballs (they lost them at Sydney).

    Wow, to think that I thought that the american media was way out of line at Sydney. I had no idea! I definitely won't be watching this time.

    Oops, I read that second paragraph too quickly. My bad, I did miss it.

    However, it's still a stupid question. They have a bunch of kids connected electronically and what they can do by sharing information. More specific goals lead to better outcomes.

    For AOL/TW to really make use of this they would need to increase linux's hardware support. I was really hoping that AOL/TW would be pumping in an abscene amount of money to create more drivers. (AOL might like to have better modem support... :-)


    Of course this assuming that AOL/TW cares about the desktop and not embedded linux. They may just figure that there isn't much more growth in PC's but internet appliances may have a much larger potential for growth.... Maybe they will have their own version of the xbox!
