I already have one I got off ebay a few years back.
It's quite cool really. All he wants is a tube of autosol every xmas and to plug himself into the mains at night. In return he does all the cooking, cleaning, DIY, and scares off burglers.
I think he is having some kind of relationship with the hoover though.
Considering Microsoft's claims of ownership over technologies like CIFS, does this mean Microsoft may also launch SCO-style attacks against Free Software/Open Source?"
Who do you think coaxed SCO to employ its latest tactics? Who provided the money needed for this latest attack on open source?
After reiser4, what filesystems are actually decent competition for it? It'd be nice for OSS to claim not only the best web server (apache), best kernel, and best filesystem. --
Sick of gentoo zealots throwing plugs in completely unrelated topics? Me too!
Not to mention the best software installation system ( portage ).
They have a satellite connection, not fibre to the mainland.
You are right about them not having a lot to fight back with though. The UN don't see them as a real country, and sealands has no allies.
If you want to train a linux person give them a computer and a book and wait. Some will get it, some won't.
Even the book is optional with info and man pages.
How many linux people here have had any kind of linux 'training' at all ?
I wonder if the US government will fund my electronic terrorism research.
I intend to research how virtual terrorists behave in an simulated environment. With enough funding I intend to test tactics and responses to troop and equiptment deployments and how to best neutralise any terrorist threat.
Small Phillips-head screwdriver
Flat-head jeweler's screwdriver
A small finger bowl (a place to put the tiny screws while you're working)
A clean table with good illumination so you can see what you're doing.
A new 2.5" slim laptop hard-drive (9.5mm high).
Enough cash to buy a new one once you f**k up the LCD screen.
For the tinfoil hats out there, if my experience in Government is any indication, Big Brother doesn't have the resources or money or true knowledge to abuse this information the way you think they will.
Maybe someone knows how to use this information.
Maybe this someone else already has access to it.
Maybe someone has scanned that database and decided that because you eat pork chops every thursday you are 94% less likely to be a terrorist. Because you buy american products and have a poor diet you are not going to cause a problem.
Just because the supermarket can't use the data they are collecting doesn't mean that some branch of the government with a huge budget can't do it.
Because it's not just the code they claim to own.
They claim to own the concepts behind the code. They claim to own all works derived from their concepts.
If the code were replaced they would claim to own the replacement code as well.
And the fact they won't reveal the code isn't helping.
If the law won't protect us against the immoral deeds of this group, who will?
This just shows that ideas are so much more important than money.
You just can't buy innovation.
What a bunch of idiots.
Not matter how much these people want to become machines they will have to face the face that it isn't going to happen in their lifetimes.
Hell, the housework robot that I've been promised has been 20 years away for as long as anyone can remember.

The dark lord who has now shown his hand.
"Always two there are, master and apprentice."

the only equipment required in a (real) car is a rev-counter and an oil-pressure gauge
Wuss. Only deaf people need a rev counter.
I normally change up gear between high piched whine and very high piched whine.
SCO had no future anyway, so the management are running it into the ground attacking linux.
I'll bet most if not all of the present SCO management will get offered overpaid jobs at microstif after SCO goes under.
I'll hand it to microsoft. This is the best FUD attack I've ever seen.
An improved package system could make it useable for mere mortals
Mere mortals can't cope with:
make
make install
What do you mean?
Microsoft have invented loads of stuff.
How about the easy to use windows GUI?
No that was ripped from macOS.
How about MS-DOS, thats one great thing they came up with?
They brought Q-DOS and changed the name.
Their single instance store?
UNIX has had Symbolic links since always.
The windows IP stack?
Taken from FreeBSD ( and broken. )
edlin?
Taken from the UNIX ed.
Macro virii?
The one thing microsoft did invent.

You do it because you love it, otherwise you find something else to do otherwise you'll always be second rate.
So very true... I'm totally sick of the in it for the money types.
Hopefully a lot of the lamers will get out of IT now the dot com bubble has burst.
It will soon be 'SCO/Linux (c) SCO, all rights reserved.'
'those who do nothing wrong have nothing to fear'
This has never been true.
Did the german Jews have nothing to fear when they were told to register with the government?
Or are you saying your government never makes mistakes, or does bad things?
11 people were trained in Linux in Kabul.
Good linux people are not trained.
If you want to train a linux person give them a computer and a book and wait. Some will get it, some won't.
Even the book is optional with info and man pages.

the Terrorism Information Awareness program, which would troll Americans' personal records to find terrorists before they strike
I suspect troll is the right word.
Why not just post Americans' personal records on slashdot and let the trolls here do their thing.
I wonder if the US government will fund my electronic terrorism research.

Ok.. I'll be playing command and conquer...
I don't like spammers much either, but this is getting out of hand.
How long is it going to be until people are getting burnt at the stake or stoned to death just because they were accused of being a spammer?
It's the spanish inquisition all over again.
Yeah I know someone is going to say 'I didn't expect the spanish inquisition..'

It still IS the oldest planet as far as we are concerned.
We can't tell what may or may not happen in our future until it does happen.
Country wide laws won't stop spam on a global network.
Warez are illegal, you still see them on the internet. People still rip CD's and put them on peer to peer networks.
Something else is needed to stop this, laws won't work.

scales up to 64 processors
Imagine a Beowulf cluster of those.
