Can you say," Al Capone's Vault?" They can get Geraldo Rivera out their on a live telecast for Time Warner, and make a feature length movie called "Gold in the Grass!"
I would hazard to guess that the Average Joe wants appliance like reliability in any PVR, and a general purpose just doesn't cut it.
I have been playing with this for years. I bought the first Tivo years ago, and loved it, but it had its constraints.
I have been very happy with the reliability of Beyond TV from Snapstream. I have 2 TB of drive space, and 2 Hauppauge Dual Tuners for a total of 4 tuners. Yes, it is overkill, and I will never watch all the TV I record, but I have quite the archive.
Beyond TV Link is the client software which I installed on my other computers, and stream TV all over the house. The nice thing about the four tuners and Beyond TV client is the ability to independently control the server in any fashion that adds up to 4 tuners plus recorded shows. In theory four different computer can control the tuners each independently. It's very cool, and centralizes all the gear.
This isn't cheap, but very cool.
I am growing increasingly circumspect in what I do online; which includes what I communicate through public forums.
I increasingly find that I self censor myself in my internet communications. Do you ever think about how your google searches might be interpreted?
I wonder how big a picture some interested party can create from the the various pools, seas, and oceans of information out there in which information about me continues to accumulate.
And it really spooks me that data mining is probably a bigger business than mining for minerals, and how often my name comes up from the depths.
What worries me most is not becoming a victim of a government conspiracy, but to be the target of some private party or corporate entity.
Maybe someone has an axe to grind, or someone wants ot go on a fishing expedition to pull a hatchett job on you. Someone with money, access to resources, or clout. These are the people i truly worry about.
Not quite the Orwellian 1984. A notable change from the Orwellian story though the watched can more easily turn the watcher's tools against them. We can look back. Smile and say, "YouTube!"
Oops!
I took down email servers down on three contintents due to a DNS error back in the day. Oops!
For the curious it was a contract job for for a division of a large Japanese company, and there was some confusion on resposibilities for the DNS servers However, they like real apologies when someone screws up. They were actually planning to have me go on a corporate jet to Japan to apologize profusely to the company CEO. My boss told them to go do something very difficult to themselves. American arrogance at its best!
Starship Troopers was awesome! I didn't see it for years after it came out because I thought it would be a terrible adapted movie. They really got it right!! I remember reading Michael Crichton's Timeline, and thought that would be a good movie. It turned out to be the big turd.
Up to a few years ago, I used to go to the movies weekly, but the quality has went down something bad.
I have had nearly every handheld ever made. I even still own my original Newton and TurboGrafx Express. This device just rocks. It fits in your front pocket, as innocuous as a small phone, and you can play few a few minutes anywhere and not look like a total dweeb. People think it is a phone! Hmmm...Gameboy phone...link play,,,are you listening Nintendo.
I luv em. I read them on my Clie' or Dell Axim. Mobipocket Plus is awesome. Both have great screens, files are compatible, it has it's own publisher...and what i can't purchase, i download from IRC. BTW, I own nearly every book I download off of the net.
No contest to my Turbo Grafx Express. I should know I still own both.
How about Core Wookie?
They would have this problem solved within the span of six cut scenes on CSI!

I sure am going to miss the Sony E3 parties. I always thought to myself,"This place looks expensive, I must be wasting money just standing here."
That's a great idea! I'd sit in a theater for two hours watching Futurama or staring at the HypnoToad, for that matter.

I still haven't quit playing Diablo 2
