And don't give me the "without patents vendors won't invest in research"-crap that i hear all the time... Yes they will! Because merchants are merchants who are merchants. As long as everyone competes under the same terms, there wont be much of a change: Companies still need to come up with something new and exciting to sell. The gizzmowiz of the day has to be smarter and faster and slicker than what the other company sells. That wont change, regardless of the approach to patents.
Show me where this has happened. Currently the US gets all of it's Manufactured items from China. Over there they have "Shadow Factories" which take the blueprints and use them to produce knockoff items.
I have never, ever heard of China coming up with something "New" and "Innovative". Why should they? It's easier to simply steal your idea as their own and sell it.
Same thing with educating the workers in your company. Sure, any company could do this, but it's cheaper and easier to hire a highly educated worker from someone else.
How exactly do you see your scenario playing out? After a dozen companies who aren't innovating, but just price cutting and reducing expenses to get rid of the competition? So they're barely solvent, and they're all looking for ideas to steal.
Patent law exists to encourage inventions. Come up with a different system that does this, and we can get rid of patent law. Simply tossing all patent law out the window is not a solution, it's giving up.
It's ridiculous that someone with such childish concepts has a say in who should own a gun. I'm trying to imagine how the scene would play out in your head...
"A ha! I am a burgler with a.38 caliber handgun!" "A.38? Bah! I, a simple American homeowner am brandishing a colt.45!" "Curses! Foiled for now. But I'll be back. Back with a.50 caliber handgun! That's the most powerful handgun ever made! You can never defeat me then!"
Seriously. There's no "Arms Race" when it comes to home protection. Or Dragonball-Z
"Excuse me, do you have a caliber that's over 9000?"
That Toll Road isn't for the public. It goes directly from the Denver International Airport to Boulder. And from there you would go to your fancy ski resorts or multi-million dollar mansion.
The toll is high to prevent the riff-raff from using it. And now that it's becoming completely automated, you don't even have to talk to a toll working peon.
Do you honestly think no one involved in the project knows the laws of supply and demand?
In my case, I joined the W7 beta because it was time for the yearly "Wipe and rebuild" for XP. I'm hoping Vista SP3...er, I mean Windows 7 doesn't have that requirement anymore.
The idea that the US had a working Missile Defense System helped bring Soviet Russia down.
It doesn't matter if it physically works or not. If the people who want to attack you with missiles believe it works, then they're not going to attack you with missiles.
Hey, look. The missile defense just prevented a missile attack.
The "Fight Club" style of "getting back at the Man" isn't very practical. There would be some period of disarray, but if you really want to screw things royally, you would introduce random, but very small data errors that hopefully get overlooked.
If they were truly random, wouldn't they cancel each other out over the long run?
Are you kidding? I'd go back to school for a Doctorate.
If there was any chance of getting a job out of that investment. The reason so many Americans don't bother, is that it's no longer worth the time, effort and headache to do it.
It doesn't seem to be hurting businesses any. There's plenty of Postdocs to go around.
By loudly shouting and pointing at Bush about the "crackdown in free speech", people pay less attention when you do it.
You can Google up many occasions where right wing speakers get shouted down or prevented from getting their message out.
It's one of the main reasons Fox news gets such bad press. They can't shut it down so they repeat the meme "Fox lies always" as much as they can. It works.
The only reason I came up with is: Computers don't last forever.
Eventually you'll be buying new PCs that come with Vista. And if XP doesn't run on them, you're screwed because you didn't test and migrate your current apps.
If you're working for a business that keeps a tight leash on hardware expenditures, this might not be a bad thing. You should be given a decent budget to deal with the crisis.
Last.FM is pretty OK, but I would much rather do business with a company which doesn't have a co-founder who calls it "fun" to play with my personal data.

It's FACEBOOK.
Frankly, I'm even willing to say "If you put it on Facebook, it doesn't have any value anyway."
If you're such a creative genius, spend the 6$ per month for web hosting and make your own website.
Bigger guns?

I'm not sure of that.
the I-70 road in denver has been in need of rebuilding for 20 year. But the price to do is far greater than it was to build it originally!
That's including inflation.
For some reason, despite years of tech and engineering improvements, the cost for road building has skyrocketed.
You're missing the point.

People beta test software all the time.
In my case, I joined the W7 beta because it was time for the yearly "Wipe and rebuild" for XP. I'm hoping Vista SP3...er, I mean Windows 7 doesn't have that requirement anymore.
Actually, after giving it some thought, I think you're right.
Price W7 enough to cover the costs of developing it. And that's it. It's just a platform for MS's other expensive software.
Feh. Their chicks were ugly and they kept on taking our food out of the fridge without replacing it.
They had to die.
Yeah. Because if Intel failed it's fabs would dissipate in a puff of smoke.
No they WOULD NOT.
Another company would buy them and hire the people that were working there.
If the Amiga OS was written today to take advantage of the 64 bit processors and memory addressing, wouldn't it automatically take up more space?
I didn't have the option to follow it.
A civilized mind would also understand the meaning of "Conscription".
Unless you're playing football with the leaders of Iran, the personalities and attitudes of their subjects just don't matter that much.

Heck, *searching* brought explorer.exe up to 970MB.

The new I7 boards from Intel are either 12GB or 24 maximum.
I'm Betaing Windows 7. Before going to bed I set up a swap partition for it. After getting up the next morning and checking, it was full.
I have *no idea* what W7 put in there while I was sleeping.
Are you kidding? I'd go back to school for a Doctorate.

It's just Misdirection.

Nonsense. It's an awesome show as long as you stop thinking that words have meaning.
Or just stop thinking.
Some of us think that the highest form of government is an Ineffective one.
Take note that the system was designed to prevent the people in power from having too much power.
Are you kidding? I've completely given up on that concept.
Congress has completely overstepped their limitations as mandated by the Constitution. And...nothing happened.
They've come to realize they have free reign in Washington and there's nothing the citizens can do about it.
(Keep your armed rebellion fantasies to yourself. It's just not going to happen.)
How much do you spend on insurance?
I was looking into building a kit plane, but getting pilot's insurance drove me off. I didn't consider buying part of a plane.
I had to think about this for a bit.
