Browsing the web in OS X in numbingly slow, sometimes making me reload the page before I can get it. I know its not my network, cause I have a OLD windows 98 machine that loads stuff far faster.
Renaming files - it fakes you out, and you have to click on the name again. Then the whole list jumps, so you accidentally click on a different file. Damnit.
Yes. Every OS is slow. OS 9, OS X, Linux, Windows XP.
Until the things I want to do happen instantaneously, all are slow. With the computing power we have at our disposal, things should not be weighing down the CPU at all. My Apple IIgs can do some things faster than my new P4!
Frankly, the most responsive OSes I have ever used have been BeOS and windows 95(IE removed), on a P4 1.8.
At work I use os X 10.5 and it gets SCHOOLED by my P3 800 at home; when I installed 10.2, I noticed a huge speed up, but some apps didn't work with it so I had to go back.
Actually, since it is OS 9 on a clone (SuperMax C600 - supported up to 8.1, now unsupported by Umax who no longer makes them;)) it is unsupported by Apple, not to mention a licence issue. I believe that was? the case with some Apple made G3s - I'm not sure where they stand on that now.
I admit I'm going out on a limb with the 10.1 thing:)
We use SCO Unix at my work - The company who sold this system to us back in 95? has now moved to Windows. No more support, paid or otherwise.
Our FEDEX machine is Windows NT; support for that consists of some phone tech reading (haltingly) from a flow chart.
Our office PC runs Windows 98, unsupported by MS. We have two Macs, one a clone running OS 9.2 (unsupported), and the other running 10.1 (Apple has moved on to 10.2.)
At home, I'm using BeOS (unsupported - Be is dead, soon to be supported open-source style!) and some other unsupported Windows configs.
Security and bug patches for windows 95/98? New SPs for Win 2000? Nope.
It's small (no penis size envy)
It's tapered (easily placed in ass, with head)
Display is backlit (easily seen when head and player is in ass)
Only holds an hour of content (Just like Bush's brain)
and...... it Works well with Windows!
PS - This is a troll; what are you going to do? Start a war?:P
Wow. Now they can listen to, "Bad Boyz, Bad Boyz, ah-watch-a gonna dooooo? ah-watch-a gonna dooooo when dey come foh yooooooo?" when they are parked outside Hardees at 3 am, and pretend they're in high speed pursuit with those rascals from Hazzard County - The Duke Boys!
I can see it now: "We better get over to Maple and 10th, Sergeant Friday is making a bust; it sounds like the perps got 'Reefer Madness' and Ponch is down, I repeat PONCH is DOWN!"
15 through 15 is a rather small sample if you're taking a survey..:®f
I ran into nethack after playing a 'Moria' port for the IIgs - I loved it, and still do (even though I STILL haven't ascended! grrr.)
It has spent some time on all my machines at one time or another; I had to get rid of it because I wasn't doing anything else! Then I went and played Galtrader (run by a fellow/.er), and was horribly addicted to that for awhile.
Damn games in a terminal window! They always get me!
Like reading/. all day hasn't hurt my productivity, all I need now is to have a new excuse to play Nethack. I narrowly dodged the last release, and thought I was safe!
I better go find a tinning kit, so I'll have something to eat while I live on the street.:(
I guess this is crazy talk, but how hard would it be to modify OS X drivers to work with Linux or Beos?
I am NOT a programmer, but the impression that I have is that unix, linux, beos and the like are some modifications and a recompile away from working with OS X. Is this true in the reverse?
If this is correct (or somewhat) why not release the drivers or source 'support free'? I would happily forego tech support for the promise of using devices with other OS's.
With their distributed client (Google Toolbar), it seems that Google is aready set up to do this with their giant server farm. They also have a 'Google Answers' pay per answer service, which could easily be modified to provide answers for big distributed problems.
If they came out with a toolbar for other browsers they could *really* have coverage.
That sounds swell! Agreed!
Perhaps we can agree to disagree!

I can switch back and forth between applications, unlike os9. I can also scan and do other things at the same time.

I never wait for it to copy files.
I am always waiting for it to copy files.
Try BeOS - It boots in about 5-15 seconds. Not kidding.

What was the question again?
Hell, I mixed up those sentences. I can't do anything right.

Why not pick a 5 minute song or remix? Hell, there are 45 min bootlegs of "No Quarter" by Zepplin if you want to do some speed walking...
Wow. Just like my Democratic/Green party votes. We should work together, we'll be rich like a (Republican) senator! ;)
Can't you people fill in a fucking circle?
Put the gun down! I was only kidding!
I find it funny that the person who always says this is an Anonymous Coward. Show yourself - unless you don't have anything to hide, of course.
I can see it now: "We better get over to Maple and 10th, Sergeant Friday is making a bust; it sounds like the perps got 'Reefer Madness' and Ponch is down, I repeat PONCH is DOWN!"
http://mangband.org/ Isn't that a hentai porn site?
