  1. But the idea was to BE the queer... on School Bans 'Tag' · · Score: 1

...if there was any scoring at all, it was in getting and holding on to the ball. One might go so far as to say "it sheperded a sexual awakening" in the terms of the administration wombat did a whitewash study of prison rape.

Of course, the queer was always hunted to extinction, so I suppose there is a negative connotation there. I'm not sure we even knew what a queer was back then...

  2. I guess this also precludes 'Smear the Queer'? on School Bans 'Tag' · · Score: 1

Maybe it isn't even played anymore...but in the early 70's, it set the playgrounds in Wyoming on fire!

Smear the Queer was a reverse-tag kind of game, played with a nerf football on a snow covered grassy area. Whoever had the football was the queer, and everone else tackled, piled on, and generally abused this worthy until somebody could wrench all or most of the nerf football from them, thus becoming the queer.

Score wasn't kept. Nobody won. To my mind, it was the purest distillation of football ever devised. It was a blast!

Has anyone else heard of this game? I'd be interest in knowing if it was just a local phenomenon.

  7. POTENTIAL trading partner? HAH! on Chinese Lasers Blind US Satelites · · Score: 1

China lends us a large portion of the 3 billion a day (only 2 billion a day last year) we borrow from other countries to keep this 'healthy' economy of ours chugging along. They are trading us cheap Walmart crap for our very financial stability, and have been for a long time. Its fucking brilliant...they manufacture crap for us to buy with their borrowed money, which seems like a great deal for us....until you understand that if they STOP lending us money, it would start a chain reaction that would get everybody else to stop lending us money, as the world would be flooded with dollars. The Chinese have played this perfectly. They never expect to get paid for the crap they sent, but it was cheaper to build that crap than weapons. End result? They can cock-punch Uncle Sam at any instant without breaking any international law or firing a shot, and he may or may not be able to get back up. China could take over the government of Tiawan and we couldn't say boo about it. Oh wait...

...they are just going to stay there. Seriously, when was the last time you heard of ANYONE calling Microsoft for support on their OS? I've done it only once in 15 years of herding windows boxen professionally. Supporting win98 is pretty simple...you just accept that you have to format and reinstall every few months. You get good at it, you stay on top of your backups, and for a while after you reload it all, you have a fairly well behaved, capable box. When it ganks up enough to annoy you, reload again. If it asplodes, you have your well oiled backups and install disk or image on hand. Its a pretty good self-support model for people without much technical knowledge. I bet there will still be thousands of 98 boxen out there in 10 years.

  12. Re:Sure they do... on Was the 2004 Election Stolen? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think one of the things that has made our democracy such a circus is the fact that people who have no ability to comprehend what they are voting for are allowed to vote. It ensures our government to be chosen by people whose only information comes from the screaming of pundits on tv...or the promise of some nebulous handout. I think not only should literacy be a requirement...voters should also be required to somehow demonstrate that they have a clue what they are voting for. No, I don't have any idea how to test for this, and yes, I can see how the parties would angle to use this as an exclusionary tool...but something needs to be done. Rule by the people is rule by idiots if the people are idiots. Look at what we have! And I fear for what we'll get next when the pendulum swings the other direction. An uneducated population is the Achilles heel of any democracy.

Are we currently discriminating against brain-dead people? Doesn't seem like most voting booths are very accessable to the brain-dead. From the representation we end up with, it sure looks like they are getting the job done somehow. Maybe they wheel them in at the end of the night or something....
