I probably deserve a "whoosh" for pointing this out. In case you were really asking, by "breast cancer test" the parent means that the filtering software should not block sites that provide information about breast cancer.
What do you mean "I jailbroke the phone"? I was just looking at these nice new iPhones and testing out the browser. All I did was surf to a website that my friend told me to checkout. You mean I changed the software on the phone by doing that? How? Is there some type of vulnerability that can allow remote code execution on my phone just by browsing a website? I thought these things were magical...
I have a first gen iPod touch that I bought soon after they came out. The product still works great. The battery life has decreased somewhat.
I don't expect it to get iOS4 or its new features. I understand your point about the hardware. However, it would be nice to get a maintenance release of the 3.x OS for that device (not sure what number they were at) that fixed the 30 odd security vulnerabilities that were fixed in iOS4. I haven't explicitly checked for an update, but I haven't seen any news about it either.
Has Clearwire started encrypting the wireless information yet, or is it still counting on security through obscurity? I had inquired about the encryption used by the service and got the run around with the eventual "that is proprietary information". Needless to say, I did not sign up.
How did you insure your iPhone against loss? I am curious as I ended up with a SquareTrade third party warranty that covers damage including water damage. I would still be SOL if I lost my iPhone.
But the real question is "Did you lose any data"???
I am getting better about letting the confusion of "lose" vs. "loose" slide. When I see it three times in a single post, I had to say something.
I haven't been paying close attention to all the details, nor have I read any of the plans. Taking a huge grain of salt that the sound bites are accurate, if you take Obama's word that his plan means that people making less than $250K a year will not see a tax increase, I believe your less than 6 figure income would most likely result in a tax decrease under Obama's advertised plan. You are not doing the lifting up, the people making > 2.5x what you do are doing the lifting up.
I am not a lawyer or a CPA, but I would imagine he would have to sell more than a single copy to establish price. If he only needed to sell a single copy, he could see it for some crazy price (say $1,000) to a friend (and then returning the money to his friend by buying something from him for the $1,000) and establish an inflated market value.
I agree that anything requiring real security should be done over SSL/SSH to provide end to end encryption. If I am using a wired connection and not using SSL/SSH, anyone between my host and the other endpoint can tap in and see my traffic. This would typically be people at my ISP, their peering ISPs, backbone providers, etc. With unencrypted wireless, in addition to people providing the infrastructure, anyone with the right type of radio receiver can see the traffic that is not sent over SSL/SSH.
I'm not sure how firewall software addresses the "I don't want anybody with the right radio and proximity to me or the wireless tower I am communicating with to see my packets".
Out of curiosity I called Clearwire after seeing one of the inserts. I was curious about the security they offered. I eventually spoke to a tech support person who verified something along the lines of "We use OFDM to protect your data. The information is not encrypted. I can't tell you our proprietary security details." I had mentioned that as a potential client who is interested in security, I would not accept the fact that OFDM is shiny and new and no bad guys can demodulate it as a good answer.
Time Machine is meant to fill up. It will start dropping off the oldest backups after it fills. When I first installed Leopard, I had a 160 GB external drive free so I used that for my initial Time Machine testing. Since I was using ~ 110 GBs of my MBP's hard drive it didn't take too long to fill up the Time Machine volume. I would get a warning message telling me that the drive was full, but it kept chugging along.
I agree with your second point, which is why I have since upgraded to a larger drive for Time Machine.
Just wondering if you've had success with Mozy.
I have been using the OS X beta of Mozy's backup tool and have not been able to create a successful backup. I keep getting connection lost error messages when it tries to upload my 2 GB VMware virtual disks.
I'll somewhat second that. I'm using FreeNAS on an old Dell P3-500 with a couple of Seagate 320 GB drives. I couldn't get the RAID-1 working, so I ended up configuring a cron job to rsync from drive 1 to drive 2.
I back this up to a a couple external HDs that I alternate between on a monthly basis or so.
I am not sure of the details, but I have seen offers for $35 to $70 for an upgrade to economy plus on United the day of the flight. I can't remember if it was $35 for the short leg and $70 for the long leg, or if it was $35 for one leg and $70 for both.

Since all the backup data in encrypted, then what's the problem?
look at the date the article was published.
I can't believe how far I had to scroll down the comments before someone realizing that.
Perhaps there is some logic in all this - TidBITs probably uses Xserves. Serves them right.
Actually, the problem is that is not serving them at all at the moment...
I think the point is that once this happens that you cannot fix it by reflashing the BIOS.
Do you know if they are hopefully going to address encryption in the newer stuff? See http://hardware.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=980713&cid=25205303

Great, now I have that song in my head...

I think the phrase "stage after the demo" implies that the problem would not show up in the demo and only after you have bought the game...
Once they decide to encrypt the information, what are the chances of the passphrase written on a Post-it on the tape?

If you use https://mail.google.com/ it is encrypted between your computer and the Gmail servers.

Be careful, people have figured out how to crack the double-rot13. To be safe I have switched over the quad-rot13...
