I think what he's getting at is that it shouldn't be Microsoft's responsibility to make sure Java is there. I don't understand how Sun managed to create a product and then demand that it be included with it's competitor's product.
That's just nuts, if you ask me (which you didn't).
Time to stop using Yahoo I guess... I haven't used anything but Google in a while
So the time to stop using yahoo was some time ago, so you stopped then, but it's time to stop now? I'm confused. Who's supposed to stop doing what now?
If Yahoo stops using Google, I just won't have any reason to go there anymore.
So why are you using them now? Can't get enough banner ads?
PR isn't always a bad thing. Would you have known about this phone if slashdot didn't tell you about it? Would you get to see all these "but it runs windoze, it suxors!" posts?
If you don't regulate it, people go nuts. People decide they need to broadcast at 25,000 watts from their garage. Frequencies get jammed up so bad that nobody can talk. Nobody wants that, so we have a government agency to keep it under control.
What kind of country would we have if people were allowed to speak freely? This country wasn't founded by people who were interested in freedom from opression, you know.
If we let you speak your mind, the terrorists have already won.
New Formula. You know it's safe. Why? Because it's tested on animals. And if you order by mail, don't worry, it's shipped in a plain brown wrapper with the words "Not Penis Cream" stamped all over it big red letters.
Don't go to movies then. If you find yourself in that situation, walk out and demand a refund. By sitting there for the rest of the film, you're sending the message that you approve of the commercials.
I've never been to a theater that wouldn't allow a refund if you walk out during the movie. Explain to the manager of the theater that you're leaving because you don't want to watch their commercials. This would be far more effective than complaining about it on slashdot.
Movie commercial producer guy: "Fuck! The jig is up! An anonymous slashdot poster doesn't like it!"
Erk, let me clarify that. Nuts & Milk was a Hudson game that got hacked. Someone named Firestorm released it in 1997. Search around for nuts.nes and you'll see what I'm talking about.
When we appropriate a phrase, we're allowed to strip it of accent marks. It's the American way. We all know "touché" has an accent mark, but we'll be damned if we're going to figure out how to type it.
"We fixed that by installing the app really deep in the windoews directories, in a folder in a folder, and so on."
Now that's security.
Of course, it does little to protect you from leet haxoring tools like deltree.
If your security depends on a readily accessible file not being tampered with, it's going to fail. The hardware solution is elegant because it's much harder to tamper with.
If you think no kid will ever run into deltree, you obviously weren't in my seventh grade math class.
Sure, they have Sony, Matsushita, NEC, Toshiba, etc.*
We've got Intel, AMD, HP, IBM, Microsoft, and Apple.*
I think there's a lot more visible innovation going on in the United States. The average joe doesn't hear about the latest and greatest in commodity hardware, but they see commercials for the iMac or whatever every day.
I think it may just be a matter of preception.
*Obviously not all-inclusive lists, sorry if I left your favorite out.

Try Google Directory. It's the same content from the Open Directory Project, but all googlified.

Erm, why would apple buy OSDN?
Sure, OSDN's interest in Apple is increasing, but that's only because Apple is a Unix vendor now.
I don't think OSDN is exactly a hot ticket, either.

Should we not discuss new products here?

All he's saying is that they aren't arbitrary. It's not like they're drawing frequencies out of a hat at the FCC office.

Nissan motors has a lot of money.
Uzi Nissan does not.
It was simply a matter of the judge finding a diplomatic way to say this.
The Linda Hamilton thing worries me the most.
James Cameron can get another job that pays assloads of money, but what the hell is Linda Hamilton going to do that would pay as much?
The only difference is newer special effects and the evil terminator is a buxom blonde, with big breasts, and wearing a tight red leather outfit.
I'm betting it tops $100 million in the first weekend.
It's sad that you underestimate your fellow man. We're not all slack-jawed yokels, even those of us who never read Orwell.
It's sad that you think you're superior to the masses because you recognize a vaguely intellectul reference.
Very sad.

"in pc hardware you have alot of say in what kinda of quality you get... in Macs, you really don't"
Yeah, it sucks ass not being able to get low quality components.
Erk, let me clarify that. Nuts & Milk was a Hudson game that got hacked. Someone named Firestorm released it in 1997. Search around for nuts.nes and you'll see what I'm talking about.
There was a rom hack called Nuts & Milk, a whacky little game where you were a giant penis.
Bizarre stuff.
NES pr0n.

That man had a righteous do only rivalled by that of Einstein.
I've got the Feynman "Think Different" poster in my office. Every day is a tribute to his fab locks.
The science part was cool, too.

They should be praised for improperly implementing a standard?
I don't get it.
Anybody can do that.
there are lots of things to do
Why are you reading it, then?
What could we possibly gain by knowing that you don't find this item newsworthy? Why bother with commentary like that?
If you don't like a story, just move along.
