It's the same people that buy the "teach yourself x in y units of time" books. Or the Wrox books. Or pretty much any non-O'Reilly book. Boggles the mind, doesn't it?
Look, if my lady doesn't like hockey, I don't expect her to watch it with me. Different people have different interests. It's highly unlikely that you'll marry someone who wants the same things you do in bed.
If I want to get it on with a nun or Wonder Woman or whatever and she's not into that, I can take off and do it with someone else. If she wants to do something I won't do in bed, she's free to do whatever she wants with someone else.
he can't view the latest web pages (I know Moz is standards compliant, but a lot of sites aren't.)
You know, I hear that a lot, but I never see it. I've been running Chimera (and before that, Mozilla) for quite a while and I can't remember hitting a site I couldn't view. Some banks require user-agent spoofing* to work properly, but once I've got my foot in the door, everything seems to work great.
Got any examples of sort-of-high-traffic sites that just plain don't work in Mozilla based browsers?
As things stand now, it's simple to prevent a host from sending a flood of messages. This isn't really the issue at hand. As fabtrabulous as your solution may be, it's not going to do anything about all the fuckwits with open relays out there, who are one of the roots of the problem.
Your smtp may be tight as tight, but some damned fool out there doesn't know his server is getting pimped.
Yeah, but then you've got the whole "security thru obscurity" thing working. It's no good to come up with a spam-fighting technology that doesn't work if spammers know about it. That's why we have tools like SpamAssassin, where it doesn't matter if they're aware your're using it.
When our leaders are bombing innocent people and invading countries in the name of oil companies, it's a little tough to hold them in any esteem. It's not a simple matter of a disagreement.
I've never read those sentiments anywhere before. I find your completely original outlook on these matters interesting, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Why oh why didn't you put that in an external document and link to it? Huge, slightly off topic posts aren't any fun.
Anyway, geeks interested in OS X don't need to look any further than Mac OS X for Unix Geeks. All the zesty flavor of the parent post in easily digestible chapters.
Really, you hate that? Do you hate it hate it? Like, when you're lying in bed at night do you stay up cursing "damn those bastards with their irritating abbreviation conventions!"
See, I don't think you hate it. I think you just want something to bitch about. I don't fault you for that; the last twenty years people have done nothing but bitch. Personally, I blame the whole thing on Paperboy, because that game was way too fucking hard, and everyone who played it was sure to walk away pissed off.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed those moments of your life you wasted complaining about a triviality.
I realize the irony of wasting my time to point out that this person is wasting his time, so you needn't bother pointing that out.
That was a bit of unjustifiable personal opinion there.
The way I see it, I've been Microsoft free for years, and I haven't had much difficulty doing it. I have a hard time seeing them as the threat that everyone else does. They don't play fair, so what? Nobody plays fair.
It's not because Microsoft going to do it anyway that I think they should be left alone. I just don't think our government needs to spend so much being a referee.
It isn't Microsoft's fault that the JVM is 9 megs. There are a hell of a lot of things I've got to download to do my job, that's life.
Real Player is a big mofo too, and nobody wants to wait to download it. Does Microsoft have to include this? How about QuickTime? How about any of the countless software titles not included with Windows? Is there some sort of free ride onto Windows install discs that only Sun is entitled to? Is it just languages? Can ActiveState demand that a Perl interpreter be included with Windows?
I see your point, that Microsoft is stunting Java's growth, but that's life. I don't think my tax dollars should be spent ensuring that Microsoft plays fair, because they aren't going to anyway.
We get basic inalienable rights regarding software?!? When the hell did this happen?
Oh, and last time I checked, Sun is a giant corporation. They've got big buildings and leather executive chairs and everything. They've even got lawyers with big nasty teeth. Don't paint them like they're Sun's Software and TV Repair.
People have been pointing to cost as Apple's Achilles heel for decades now.
Apple knows their machines are more expensive. They always have been, and probably always will be.
People buy them anyway.
People who are buying Macs are willing to pay more because they believe they're getting their money's worth.
Why is this so hard to understand?
That's what I did last year.
and the year before...
and the year before...
and the year before...
Ok, maybe you've got a point.
Sexy?
Man, you need to get out more often. Or stay in more often. Something. All I know is that whatever you're doing, you're doing it wrong.
It's the same people that buy the "teach yourself x in y units of time" books. Or the Wrox books. Or pretty much any non-O'Reilly book. Boggles the mind, doesn't it?
Teach yourself to be a dummy in 24 hours!

Anything else just leads to resentment.
You lose just as much for being here to criticise him.
Anyone reading this site would be better off outdoors.

*See this for more on that.
They'd have to start buying Macs first, and (excluding Japan) that just isn't happening.

What's to stop someone from setting up an smtp server that doesn't give a flying fork about numerically intensive computations?
Assuming we had control over every smtp server in the world, how would this work?
Server: what's 2+2?
Client: hold on a sec....
Client: 4
Server: hold on a sec...
Server: (figures out 2+2)
Server: right, 4. carry on.
See, all you'd be doing is tying up both ends of the line.

vipul's razor.
happy now?
The command line interface enables you to run php scripts from the command line, that's all.
I'm totally unclear regarding your "point and click interface" dilemma. Are you talking about visual php editors?
Anyway, I agree that someone like you is probably better off with a "full-feature" language like ASP. Dig that full, elegant interface!
Haven't I heard this somewhere before?
When our leaders are bombing innocent people and invading countries in the name of oil companies, it's a little tough to hold them in any esteem. It's not a simple matter of a disagreement.
Wow, that's so insightful!

Keep those stunningly fresh and new ideas coming!
Uh, why don't you read the full description?
Since you don't seem inclined to investigate these matters yourself, the answer is "yes".
With your penchant for ALL CAPS, it is indeed a mystery why your stories get shot down.
Damn those grammatical asses.
Wishing you a merry little xmas...
