Why would they give a fuck about control, they'd rather have the money. They don't care if it comes from selling to Wii or XBox or PC or discovering a secret cache of pirate's gold.
You seem to be suggesting they'd be happy to give up profits because they'd happily sacrifice profits for control...the suggestion is ludicrous.
I have experience with this due to a tomato plant (Black Krim) where a gopher ate through the stem. I pulled all the tomatoes, still green, and ripened them inside. They looked & tasted exactly the same as tomatoes ripened on the vine.
A lot of tomato people (say, on http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/tomato/) say you should pick the tomato at first sign of color break. Because it prevents animals from eating the tomatoes, and there's absolutely no taste difference.
Takedowns have a legitimate purpose. As an extreme example, what if it's child porn? What if it's a bootleg of your favorite movie that just came out on DVD?
It already is robust enough to make censorship impossible. People choose not to implement this robustness, because of genuine concerns that you may not totally agree with but at least have a logical argument supporting them.
Well, right now the #1 Google search result for "youtube" is the Michelle Obama story is youtube, so there is some outrage. But realistically, the video is perfectly watchable now, a couple days later. The video was on TV, the video was probably available from numerous other online sources, so it's considered an accident that didn't really affect anybody. Who really cares if one particular video stream goes down temporarily, for no malicious purpose?
And with the UStream video, perhaps it was seen as karmic vengeance for the committee passing up Community's "Remedial Chaos Theory."
Oh get off it. Mass Effect 3 had you play the multi-player if you wanted an extra 3 seconds of pre-rendered video at the end. Then they changed after people complained, and now you can get the three seconds of pre-rendered video even without the multi-player.
You're obviously looking at the game with the most insanely critical of eyes, and it's still a very fun game.
The game sucked because Will Wright can't deliver on the premise. He tried the premise elsewhere, say in Simzoo or Simearth, and they were all bad games. It wasn't that the game was rushed or sloppy, it's that the idea behind the game was fundamentally flawed.
"Middle Managers" are an easy bogeyman to blame, but obviously there are good games that make it through the EA system.
I know, why do these ridiculous people want money for what they do? I'm sure major record executives are following your every word and it's nice of you to offer advice.
We are the future. We can not be stopped. Bow down before us and keep making trashy sci-fi/fantasy movie with no possible hope of remuneration.
Why colonize, what's the motivation? People colonized the Americas because of the promise of a better life - a better life is simply not possible on Mars, any more than if you lived in Death Valley but without an atmosphere. You mention the extinction of the human race due to the absolute destruction of Earth - but the Earth has survived pretty well until know, is this really a pressing concern? And is Mars even capable of being self-sufficient if the Earth was to get destroyed?
Science Fiction is fun and inspiring but you take it perhaps a little too much at face value.
There's no real appeal, except the concept of a tiny $35 computer, that might make a fun toy and in a worst case scenario can be used as a cheap media PC.
If they cost $100, suddenly nobody would care about them.
I hear you, and $20 wouldn't bankrupt me of course. But Macs are already too expensive, just on principle why should a still-new computer require me to pay more money to run simple programs? WINE is basically a necessity for Macs because the software selection is so poor. If it was an obscure program I could understand that it might have wonky program requirements that aren't really Apple's responsibility, but WINE is probably one of the top 5 or top 10 programs that Mac users end up using.
I wouldn't know, because my 1.5 year old Mac won't even run the latest versions of WINE, without having to pay Apple for an upgrade to my OS, an upgrade that makes my computer more tablet-like and for all I know might de-stabilize the system.
This sucks, in Tokyo they've have fiber for years. I can illegally download a movie in a minute instead of like three minutes.
I love how you personally are able to speak for the rest of the world.
I'm sure you keep up to date on newspapers from China, Qatar, and Ghana...
Oh wait, you're just another European who thinks Europe is the entire world.
Article says. Shenzhen.
Or, maybe they are really expensive, but people still buy things that are expensive.

Right, and handing a guy a gun isn't anything either, after all he has to take it himself.
Also, exactly how many angels can balance on the head of a pin? I'm sure Slashdot's self-appointed lawyers can get to the bottom.

"yeltski" - could you be any more obvious that you're a KGB spambot?
As much time as for a Rosa Parks or concentration camp like thing comes up!

Theoretically it's a learning tool. Realistically, everybody buying it is buying it as a cheap computer to play with.
They could call the Nintendo XL an educational device and that doesn't make it so.
Right. Apple would get a lot of money and its chief competitor would get screwed. I know slashdot hates lawyers but use some common sense.

Or Community's "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons," http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6148665/Community_S02E14_HDTV_XviD-LOL_%5Beztv%5D ???
There's probably dozens of them, but that was a good one, anyway.

Right. The ability to compare objects against a database is the ultimate test of AI. Google Image Search is a sentient being.
What the fuck? Did Paypal do this 10 years ago maybe? When you don't know what you're talking about, why are you writing a small essay?
Right, it's a huge problem with current televisions.
Not to worry. Nintendo hasn't had any games worth paying attention to since 1995, anyway.
