I need to know their license numbers because when I'm away for the weekend I leave my keys in the car, I often let other myspace members it if they need to make a quick drive, to get groceries or whatever.

I would go so far as to say that I often think accents just aren't important. I'm glad Slashdot has you around to set things straight.

I mostly think it's that censorship policies in China are arbitrary and change on a rapid basis. Recently blogspot has been flipping between working freely and needing a proxy, about every week or so. Recently flickr.com has been working fine (as it usually does), but uploading pictures will cause a 5-minute blockout of access to the site. This happens frequently, but usually flickr.com works normally after a few days.

Half a year ago, Wikipedia was entirely uncensored. Then, the Chinese language version was censored. Then, both were. Then, as of a couple weeks ago, China has decided to censor indivisual articles in the Chinese wikipedia (and a very few in the English wikipedia), but not censor the site entirely. Next month/week/year, their policy could be something different entirely.

ANyway, I don't think you can read too much into this.

Oh wow, well if Europeans thought Ross Perot was a neo-Nazi, then it must be true! I would fully expect Europeans to have an extremely nuanced appreciation of an short-lived American political phenomenon from 14 years ago.

And maybe you don't know this, but "the greens" are not a single international political organization with a unified policy in every nation. How their politics are percieved in "Europe" (one big homogenous family, it would seem) really has little to do with the American Greens.

The pirate party got about .3% of the vote, why even bring them up? The Beer Drinker's party has managed about 5% of German voters, right?

The grandparent post rails on about how the lack of a third party shows Americans are stupid or something (maybe it's the fluoride in the water), but it should at least be considered that the US political system is arranged so that an emerging party really doesn't have much power, and could even be considered a vote wasted. The third parties that have risen have usually been single-issue protest votes, and their message co-opted by the main political parties.

  11. Re:It's the lens stupid on Seitz's 160 Megapixel Digital Camera · · Score: 1
That isn't true. The main reason people use DSLR's is for the larger, more sensitive sensors. P&S cameras will often have lenses *better* than DSLR's - for instance, Panasonic's FZ50, or Canon's S2, have lenses that yield demonstratably better results than any kit lens, or ultrazoom, and with superior f-stop coverage. Entry-level DSLR's will still manage to wipe the floor with these cameras, simply because the noise is so high.

The digital camera's lens could be the most expensive, impractical lens on the market, and it really wouldn't matter - the major problem with digital cameras is high noise (and/or noise reduction), not soft lenses. Really this is pretty obvious if you've ever used a P&S digital camera.

China officially contains 55 minorities, pretty much every one which was over-ridden by Han Chinese, generally through the use of military force. China also exerted military control over Vietnam and other areas of Southeast Asia. The Yuan dynasty (kublai khan and all that) was Mongolian, but quickly Sinocized and from Beijing ruled over the largest empire ever, in the history of the world.

The lack of innovation wasn't enforced through religion. Chinese religion doesn't have a pope who can make edicts and call for crusades or fatwas. Among other explanations, I'd believe it to be because of an inefficient government, as well as a lack of foreign trade and the exchange of ideas with other nations, due to a cultural prejudice against anything foreign.

China has a long history of a meritocracy, longer than the West - you've heard of the Imperial Examinations, right? Or perhaps you believe the Indian caste system also exists in China? That would be wacky!

Basically, every single thing in your post was wrong. Seriously, go read a history book before making such ignorant posts.

I apologize in advance for linking to an Alan Parsons Project album, but currently released LPs often will make a point of having thicker, higher quality LPs than what you'd find on 60s or 70s releases, perhaps bragging on having 180 or 200 grams of vinyl. Really, "abysmal", with little starts on both sides? The only *abysmal* quality vinyl I ever saw was old punk releases, yuck.

Additionally, over the last 15 years, longer albums will be released as double LPs, rather than trying to stretch longer albums into an LP format.

Bad bass? I'm not a huge vinyl fan, but sometimes it's cheaper than the CDs, so when I used to buy albums (instead of just downloading the bittorrents) I would opt for the LP instead. I thought the bass was fine. I'd compare it against the CDs, it sounded approximately the same. I hear what you're saying with bass making the needle jump, but that problem was pretty much fixed around 1965. I can't help but suspect you have no idea what you're talking about.
