  1. What a triumph of free speech.

  2. Re:Trains on Elon Musk Outlines His 'Boring' Vision For Traffic-Avoiding Tunnels (axios.com) · · Score: 5, Informative

Why am I obsessed with cars? Because my crappy 35 minute commute by car becomes a 2 hour 20 commute by BART + Bus + walking (according to Google Maps). And trains can't take me to the hikes or parks I like, aren't really a practical way to bring around my kid and all the random shit he needs, etc.

I suppose we could bulldoze the entire Bay Area to organize it around a train system, but that's not going to happen.

Good username/comment synergism, though. I will say that even in NYC, taking the subway to go between my brother in North Brooklyn to my friend in South Brooklyn is like an hour, even though they're just about 4 miles away. Even NYC needs cars, although it makes more sense to use Uber/taxi for many people.

  3. It's sad that people conflate free speech with pirated episodes of "The Flash, Season 3, Episode 19."

Free Speech is important because it allows the distribution of Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" or the Federalist Papers. Saying that obviously Free Speech means you don't have to pay content creators cheapens the value of Free Speech into something people don't consider a right.

I am not poor. If I really used it for five years....$200/year for a phone that I might use throughout the day is a bargain.

If you are old and just want it for calling your grandkids, yeah sure, get whatever's cheapest.

The Canadian Economy is almost entirely shipping raw materials to American factories, and banks that support shipping raw materials to American Factories. Seriously, that describes 49 of the top 50 Candian companies. There's nothing Canadian and memorable to put on the bill. Were you expecting a "Little Mosque on the Prairie" reference?

  15. Why would anybody want a solution that costs more, uses more electricity, and is more of a pain in the ass, unless it enables piracy?

Wal-Mart isn't that cheap, is it? I work close to one, sometimes I drop by because it's convenient or I have a little time to kill. Every single electronics item is going to be cheaper at Amazon, sometimes substantially cheaper. The coffee is cheaper at just a Safeway. The art supplies are somewhat expensive.

The coffee creamer is at a good price, and they have a bunch of shitty $5 T-Shirts. I didn't realize what the "Everyday Low Price Guarantee" meant...I see now they match Amazon prices, which is a cool thing to find out.

  24. Wouldn't it be possible to just have a USB-C Hub plugged in to the monitor, power supply, etc., and then connect the hub to the phone?

This is probably going to cost $150, and at that price it makes far more sense just to buy a cheap Android computer, or one of those Intel computer sticks, or something....mass produced, surely Samsung could have thrown in some kind of hub to every single phone they sold.
