Considering I work for one of these companies I can tell you right now they aren't worried about palms at all. In the end people generally wish to combine thier devices cell phone palm etc. So we actually endorse it.. for instance take a look at the Springboard module for the Handspring Sprint made, or the Samsung I300 another palm phone.. Not to mention the Treo.. etc.. Even if you don't use the phone companies directly the provider your pulling the signal from is more than likely renting tower space from one of us anyhow *shrug*. So either way the money for the most part comes this way.

The reason it isnt correct is a lot of our customers pay through our website.. most of the customers dont even recieve a bill. It jsut depends on the customer. However let me mention we are telecommunications.. but specifically mobile telecommunications.. maybe that will clear things upa bit.

I work for a Worldwide Telecommunications business, and they sell all of thier lists... The interesting part is when your national, and this law applies only to Virginia we will have to opt-out everyone only in Virginia. So that makes it a tad more difficult.. Considering half the time the state information we have for the customer is old, or out of date, or deliberatly inaccurate. despite the extra work this will generate however I think it is a good idea. Personally I jsut wish it was the whole US instead of just Virginia.

Well if what your saying is correct (not that I doubt you, but it helps to have a .gov to cite from then yes they have violated it. Many times at that. On the memory card issue above they cut my warranty when the problem I was calling in about was the lens being out of alignment on the cd reader. Since the two really can't damage the other I would say that was a violation.

Well on the cables I didn't however the person involved did. I learned my mistake on that when they asked for a serial number on the memory card (it said sony on it etc.) I gave it to them and they said it was a fake. So now I have one set of official product numbers for warranty reasons only :-)

  11. Sony and Warranty on Looking Closely at the Restrictions of Linux on the PS2 · · Score: 4, Interesting

Personally I have had bad experiences with Sony. I have had 4 PS1's and 1 PS2, and a multitude of other Sony products. While typically for the most part the products are good the one thing that gets me about Sony is Warranty and support. Even the most minor thing is a instant void of warranty. I watched them void a friend of mines warranty on his PS2 becuase his fiber audio out cable wasnt made by Sony. I've also seen them do the same thing for the composite cable on the way out, and even power cables on the PS1. Not to mention non Sony memory cards, yes and even games. Which brings me to my point. If using anything non-Sony voids a warranty.... What happens if you add anything at all to the Linux distro they provide you with. Does that void your warranty? Or are they making exceptions in thier policy this time. I'm willing to bet they aren't making any exceptions.

I read about half way down the comments so if someone has mentioned this I appoligize. I have often wondered if perhaps Transvestites(sp?) were not the next step in the evolutionary process. Considering they have both organs they are more adaptable. However typically both of the organs fail to work properly; however, every so often we see one who actually has full use and is able to reproduce, but this trait is rarely passed on to the child in these rare circumstances (recessive trait). Granted they can't self reproduce, but since (the rare few) are able to become pregnant or be the one to make a female (or perhaps another fully working Trans) pregnant. Just a thought.

This is really getting old it seems to be a constant battle. They come up with some new means of protection, and we devise a way around it (we as a collective of consumers). They discontinue it, and release a new one, and we work around it again. Besides no matter what they do you can always play it and pipe the sound back in and record it *shrug*. They should just give up and allow people to buy and play the music normally. In the end although there will be some theft they will increase profits becuase I can't imagine anyone will buy these once the word gets out to the general public a bit more. After all who wants a CD you have to fight to play or use in a manner which you have been accustomed when you can jsut buy a good old normal CD. When will they ever learn :-)

Incidents like this though just gives them an excuse to go a little further with it and still appear to be doing something in the intrest of the protection of the public. To a point this is a good thing, but there is always that one person (or group) who will take it to far and then the next thing you know it turns out they were recording information not even relevant to the task at hand becuase someone seemed to think it might be useful.

For one he knowingly admits to circumventing the law in order to "get his message out" that was his first mistake. Second he appears to have information that more or less (at least implies) that the goverment needs to be overthrown (not changed). The diffrence being overthrowing consitutes violence where changing implies through voting and so forth. Sounds to me like this bust was a good thing. Not a bad one
