Or you could of used those of-so-wonderful PIF files to try to keep memory use and hotkeys in check, the reasons lots of DOS progs crashed in Win3.1......DOS4GW??
I meant developed by the opensource community, not released as opensource, which I suppose would be required as per GPL etc. The chances of any audio software company developing Linux drivers are pretty slim.
I think that if there are going to be any Linux drivers for this sort of hardware, it's going to be opensource. In general, the people who are producing and recording audio are not very computer savvy and tend towards Macs because of their 'ease-of-use'. They also tend to be fierce Mac supporters, and getting them to move to even a Windows platform is hard enough, no matter how many times you tell them it's cheaper and faster. Professional audio hardware and software packages are only now being ported onto the Windows platform at their full functionality. Given that Linux isn't terribly great in the 'ease-of-use' dept. I really can't see any hardware manufacturers making Linux drivers, the market just isn't there. So, it looks like you should get a few people together and start a SourceForge project:)
I did consider that angle, but I went back and looked at the original post and I feel that it's a pretty typical Mac=Unix=Linux=SlashCred type of comment, although I wasn't so much targeting the poster directly, I was going for more of a general comment addressing this new subculture within Slashdot. Jebus, that was one whole sentence. I will admit that I'm a relatively new user and don't post very often, so mAIsE does deserve more 'cred' than I, giving that I have yet to demonstrate myself as a thoroughly credible poster. And I have a feeling this thread isn't helping much at all...
How do you know what software a person has used if they have never volunteered the information? Oh, yeah, mac users 'think differently'. Mmm, OS X, the OS that can't even directly address a second processor.
Actually, the Gigabit Ethernet is being used to transfer the rendered pixels from each node in the cluster to the SGE are buffered and whatnot and then sent to the display through up to 8 DVI outputs.
From the hardware page : In the current Deep View configuration, the rendered pixels are sent from each node in the cluster to the SGE over a Gigabit Ethernet link, and we use four of the synchronized DVI outputs to drive the T221 at full resolution.
SGE is not the monitor it's the graphics subsystem.

And this is exactly why we will never have flying cars. If people can't even handle two dimensions, what do you think will happen when we give them an extra one to deal with? The only way this could ever happen is if some sort of autopilot system were implemented, and I for one like being able to decide where I want to go and how to get there.
I'd have to say that in this case 'nominally' translates to 'margin of error.' However, the fact that video card results always show improvements 'especially at the lower resolutions' is pretty annoying. Who cares if I'm running 640x480 at 1500FPS?!? I want to run 1600x1400 at 60fps with all the jazz turned on, damnit!

I think one it's more important effects is to be able to stand outside one's thought processes (as much as one can) and be able to somewhat objectively analyze the mind. It's possible that use of this drug can help us understand more about conciousness and developing AI in the right hands. Of course this isn't anything new, but I'm not sure this approach has ever been taken in an attempt to develop AI.
..how they are going to stop "Open-Source" Software from being developed on a platform and not "non-Open-Source" software. Do you think they are going to stop all programs that don't have DRM or are approved or whatever from running? It would stop all software development on the Wintel platform. There has to at least be a way to turn off the DRM to allow people to write programs and beta test at all.
Jaser, I saw your sig and I recognize the line you used for it, that's gotta be one of my favorite space ghost c2c episodes ever. "Not there, on the dresser, next to the alarm...I've told you a thousand times!!" Anyway, I think that where you have 'bright' it should be 'fright.' I'm not totally sure, I don't have the script or anything, but that's what I thought he was saying.
I have been waiting for years, in vain thought i, for this event. What the hell ever possessed MTV to get rid of this show?!?! It's one of the best cartoons ever, it has creativity, style, and content. I'm sure that Ren & Stimpy will get massive ratings since all the kids that grew up on it are coming home from their 9ta5s and watching all the horrible bs that passes for entertainment these days. Well, MTV, in the immortal words of Ween "You Fncked Up!!! You Bitch!!! You really fncked up!!!!!!"
Page owns manuscripts, clothing, a home/castle on Loch Ness and god-knows what else that were once owned by Aleister Crowley. He's not going anywhere;)

Yeah, like your $32,000/yr tuition. At least that's what it was back in 1997. I imagine it's gotta be higher by now. I wonder how many/.ers got the MIT prospectus when they graduated high school. I'm guessing quite a few.
The thing is, tRNA is only really specific for the first two bases in a codon. The third base can "wobble." For example, alanine can be represented in the genome by GCU, GCC, or GCA. This is because the anticodon (IGC) uses inosine to match the third base, and inosine can pair with uridine, cytidine, or adenosine. Only a couple of tRNAs require all three bases to match, like the tRNA carrying tryptophan.
mmmmm...tryptophan....
tryptophan => tryptamines => fun dreams
Several PC makers have already indicated that they would consider swapping out Microsoft middleware, such as Windows Media Player or Windows Messenger, for competing software. But many are still evaluating their options.
Well I suppose Dell, etc. will be making more money now that Netscape, etc. can compete for product positioning in Windows systems.

I love how Mac users think that because their new OS is 'based' on Unix it gives them some kinda Slashdot street cred.
