This is somewhat of a tough issue...because obviousely you can open up a spoofed page inside of a frame that looks like a legit page. However, there are legit reasons to open up other offsite content in a frame (take a look at ask.com...I believe they leave a frame up top to their site then open another site from there searches).

The best idea would to just get rid of frames completely, they suck.

Thats good and everything but you still are just masking the spyware to the user (unless you removed all the Spyware then installed the HOST file). He may not get pop up windows because of the HOST file....but the spyware is still running and eating up system resources. Using the HOST file is almost just like what Microsoft is doing with this Anti-Spyware program...masking the original problem instead of just fixing it.

Just because we can not enforce or completely stop abuse by making something illegal does not mean that we should not do it. Im sure no matter what law you have, someone somewhere is going to be breaking it. But could you imagine what would happen if stealing cars was made legal? How about making crack legal so any joe can run down to the store to pick up a rock?

The idea is that by making it illegal you will force people that have morals to make a moral decision that they would not be forced to make if it was legal. Now spammers are kind of tough because we can see that they already have no morals...but maybe a fine will make some people actually stop spamming. Stopping SOME spammers is better than stoping no spammers.

Usually I would have to agree with you. But the problem is known as the Computer Science syndrome (well covered on slashdot). For those that dont know, that means every damn person that you know is going to ask you to fix their computer...remove the spyware and viruses....and show them the holy grail of computing. I really dont have time for this. Most of my close friends and family are using Firefox because I forced them to. Why? Because I dont want to have to spend 4 hours removing the virus of the week that effects IE. I care because its cutting into my personal time.
