Hey maybe we can start having pyramid and "wave" shaped pc's too.. how about great improvments to heat dissipation or noise reduction for case design instead of stupid shapes and colors?

Yes I have written custom CF tags - and if you think its hard your basically, a moron. how tough is it? You can write CFX tags in either C++ or Java .. not too tricky. Or you can create a CF_ custom tag using cold fusion .. again not real hard. whats your point? I think I mentioned the whole opensource bit in my post. This site isn't the Open Source Love den. Its the "News for Nerds" site. Believe it or not OpenSource != Always Good. I like PHP and I like CF. Both are good at what they do. My point was, and continues to be, that if MS buys Macromedia it will take one more choice out of the marketplace for developers as MS will undoubtedly want to keep ASP and remove CF since they (MS) already have so much invested in their ASP technology. Personally, I like having as many choices as possible to present to my customers.

  6. Flash, CF, etc.. on Microsoft To Acquire Macromedia? · · Score: 1

I think some of you guys don't really have a clue to the power of flash. There really is alot more that can be done with it than just "splash screens" And to whomever said PHP would kick CFs ass is truly on acid. Both have their strengths and weaknesses but CF is by no means a pile of shit compared to PHP. Considering CFs simple language structure it is incredibly powerful - and provides for extremely fast web development. Something PHP does not do. I like both - but when it comes down to cranking something out that is both fast and powerful CF is nearly always my choice. If I have the time to build - I am still just as likely to go with CF as PHP. Flash allows developers to provide end users with a really nice UI that you still can not achieve using CSS and HTML. Allowing for a far more compact and efficient website. Unfortunatly nobody uses it for that - instead 99% of all flash is a waste as people just try to be artsy with it. I do agree with most of the negative sentiments about Director though - i really don't have any use for it and wouldn't mind it going away anyway. There have been some decent web-based shockwave games in the past though :O) like King Putt (a miniature golf game). I think it would suck if MS bought Macromedia. Hopefully it doesn't happen. Even if you don't like CF I think you can agree that to have one less competitor to ASP wouldn't be a good thing. Unless your just so blinded by PHP and opensource love that you want opensource to be the only alternative - kind of like MS wants to be the only one... In my opinion both are equally bad alternatives.

  7. I have one on RC Car Craze: The Spam Connection · · Score: 1

My wife bought one for me at the mall. It is a poorly constructed piece of crap. Battery compartments are all held shut with a screw, the screw on mine had a nub of metal on the end making it nearly impossible to open the comparment without breaking off the plastic cover. The machine is supposed to last for one minute on a sixty second charge. More like 23 seconds - and it never really has enough juice to get itself going from rest, so you have to give it a little nudge. Finally, the alignment is horrid, you have to constantly turn it to the left just to keep it going straight. I have seen these, of somewhat better quality, at the Discovery Store in larger cities malls. The Discovery store cars seem to work better but they also cost 21 bucks (US) or so - which is probably (i hope) more than my wife spent.

You, or others, shelled out cash for a product they hadn't seen but heard was coming. Some advice, don't preorder. Buy things when they are done. Don't reward a company for their marketing hype - reward them for a product in hand. If you are so eager to have a product that you want to pay for it, before it is done, thats your perogative, but also realize its your gamble. There was no guarantee that any version of NWN would be released.

With all the whining I have heard about the delays in the Linux client im suprised BW even bothered continuing work on it. Where is the value to BW in finishing it. The delays have turned into bitches and gripes that only fuels bad press - like that which is found in the headline on this site ("i wont hold my breath") BW, in its slow way, is actually doing the linux community a favor by developing for the platform at all - and hopefully when there done, people will buy it - thus showing the gaming community that Id isn't the only company that can make a headliner game for Linux and be successful. So stop yer bitchin. You don't have to love or even support the delays or even the effort of BW to make the game. Be cynical all you want but shut up about it. If your gonna bitch - bitch if no game comes ever does come out. And then when you do bitch, make sure you bitch at all the people who could only whine during the development and showed the world what an ingrateful lot the Linux community can be at timews.
