I have one of these too, and it's extremely annoying that I can't throw mp3s on it. I believe the major problem is converting to the proprietary format, and then of course figuring out the exact protocol of the transfer.
4 years ago, i owned the biggest notebook on the block. it had a 15.7 inch screen, 2 in think, weighed in about a ton. it's not portable. not at all. and so, when i was looking for a replacement, it had to have no more than a 12.1 in screen and be less than an inch and a half thin. that's portable.
of course _someone_ will be able to make it better? but does that _someone_ really care too? or would they rather invest their time somewhere else, possibly in something they need? of course if you start a project that is needed by _all_ you'll get lots of help and the project will be successful. it's just finding that problem.
but can you identify spam before opening it 100% of the time? Now, I realize that the mail program is looking at the actual data as well, which gives it an advantage, but on the other hand, how else can IT detect spam?
what's the point of giving away your software if no one wants to use it? i could release a script that adds two numbers together and prints it out and release it under some say.. Y license, which happens to be free as in beer and as in freedom. now, does it matter if i give this away or make it free (i.e. freedom) if no one bothers to use it? how does the software evolve without a userbase? if joe sickspack (i hate saying sixpack) can't compile it, and distro-Z doesn't provide packages, and joe GNU won't compile it because it's not a true free license... then how does it become better? why bother?
javascript is general enough in simple things. of course once one gets into browser manipulation, you get into trouble. but to learn basic programming, functions, loops, it shouldn't be a problem.
that takes nothing away from the fact that javascript is a very good language to learn programming on. i learned how to use loops and functions in javascript way before i knew what a compiler was. i say 'YAY!' to the author for an interesting and effective thought.
even more interesting than that is that when searching for plastic android, it returned a radiohead site, but didn't try to sell me radiohead cds....
13 years later, i was born!

oh yeah, this is the day that i'm not supposed to read /.. dammit, what am i going to do at work?
I keep hearing the argument that X is bad because it's old. Unix is even older, and look what happened with it!
Yeah, we now have lots of different UNIX like operating systems, Linux being probably the most popular.
however, who's to say your backups are safe? vulnerability's weren't introduced in some backup.
what's funny is that the first result is a slashdot article. Slashdot | Congress Eyes Whois Crackdown

you _CAN_ pay for mozilla (on cd). but of course it's not required.
... and it did a lot for online gaming.
you mean like.. rip you off?
so, you're only 98% accurate? You're below average and dragging it down. Get with it.

how relevant are the results though? doesn't google pride itself on trying to provide the most relevant search results?
but, when you say yahoo does it mean "to perform a websearch" like Google.
Why this might be a good time to start developing Y: the successor to the X window system.

there are. it's called portage, but it's written in python.
but if these messages are irrelavant to the discussion at hand... then we've gotten to the top by fraud. YES I"M IN!

i am also an open source advocate. my comment was made in jest. obviously you didn't find it funny.
if crippled means, getting rid of internet explorer, the windows kernel, and everything else, and replacing it with, linux 2.6.2, gnome 2.4....
