In the context of subways, the method is also tamper proof, unless of course you lose your card.

And in the context of buses?

that's possible, but what about buses? is there a wireless/satelite connection to this database? or... does the bus have to plugin the cat5 cable when coming back to the place they park? As far as subway stations and such, I would assume that yes indeed it would work some way. There may also be some sort of checksum that has to match or else the card is invalid. who knows.

I believe metrocards get rewritten everytime they are read. They have to actually, in order to keep a balance. Once you figure out exactly the scheme, you can add $50 to it, and use it as usual. However, you need a writer, not just a reader. Once you've run out of money, another $50 programmed on will work fine.

that's not the problem. the problem deals with routing. everyone knows about dns, and how blah blah blah, you can take your domain, blah blah blah with you and update the authoritative nameserver, this that and the other thing. the problem is that as ip addresses are dispersed through different isps, routers have to do more work, because there needs to be special entries to route those addresses. routers work and work effectively by caring only about the first few bytes of an ip address. for instance, the internets core routers might only care about the 12 in an address like 12.1.39.10, since 12 is a class A address meaning that one place has the entire 12.0.0.0 ip block. as a result a router can figure out the next hop by using inexpensive bit masking to find the interface to forward the packet on.

The other day, I tried to make a 180 degree panoramic, using a tripod. i took 12 shots. a few problems, 1) lighting conditions in each shot are much different. all images were correctly exposed. 2) edges were extremely distorted, as if it were a fisheye lens. which it is not, there wasn't _THAT_ much, but enough that creating a panoramic shot would be impossible. so my question, what kind of lens allows you to do this?

Amazon, now this is a new and different problem. You have a tool, that you think will help you search the web better, and instead that's it's secondary feature. Amazon is making money on collecting your private information, and openly saving it for future use. Seems extremely shady to me.
