Speaking of shitbags, have I ever told you about the colostomy bag I saw the other day??? NASSSSSTY. I was eating my sushi, minding me own business as I am wont to do, when my ex-gf's passing acquaintance from work came over to my table and started telling me how she got her rectum taken out and how she wants to have a baby now. Plus is getting married. I think she made a lot of money in porn, and the fiance likes his sugar mommy. Anyways. So as I was saying, shitbags certainly are repulsive.
Welcome to my 'friends' list, sir! Your brave post on shitbags has made my day.
I learned the external-linking-script lesson back when WMV8 came out because all the porn spammers on usenet were loading up their WMV files with scripted DRM exploits. I downloaded Windows Media crap once, and never again.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the porn people yet. They've had a handle on this technology for years already.
I can argue, similarly, that a hammer practically *demands* that I crush your skull, with the flat end and the pointy ends practically *designed* to do you mortal harm. However that doesn't make it so, regardless of my present point o' view.. You can make ridiculous arguments forever without actually proving any tenable link between the desire for privacy (which is perfectly normal and absolutely OK) and outright crime (which is deviant from the social norm, totally NOT OK). Really now.
For the last 5 years Windows 2000 has had WFP to protect against core files being overwritten. I've not had a single "DLL hell" experience yet in ~15 years of using Windows. However I've installed Firefox on ten different distros (probably more now) and never once seen an icon for it appear automatically in my GNOME menu. Why is this so broken? APT, Synaptic, RPM, yum, etc. are all basically broken from my point of view, but we put up with them because it's worth the fuss. Millions of computer users can't even find a new icon on the DESKTOP, much less dink around with non-standard filesystem heirarchies (which distro do you use?) and symlinks. Pet peeve of the day (which happens to be relevant to this thread) : Windows downloads are only a fraction the size of equivalent Linux apps. Try OO.o, Firefox, etc. My Xandros 3 install had to download 40MB (using the lovely APT) which doesn't compare well to a 4MB download for Windows. Seriously, you should look into using something more current than Windows 3.11.
To compare apples to apples: OO.o: Windows - 45MB Linux - 77MB
I've heard enough about bloody shared libraries that evidently NEVER get shared, and instead I end up with five different incompatible versions of glibc/GTK/whatever and it's also annoying to wait while APT downloads an EXTRA 300% of the listed download size. If making *NIX installers like Windows means that I'll have all the advantages, and all of the downfalls, then I'll take it thank you very much. It's a great deal better than what we've got now.
the patent specifically refers to "invisible light" which obviates the patent as regards any commonly available visible laser pointer light. Clearly the patent is referring to CO2 lasers or other invisible light source. It'd be too easy to make such a case, and argue that the patent effectively doesn't cover anything at all.
my internet gave to me five spambot virii, four porno graphics, three smiley faces:) two free-after-rebate sweaters, an anti-spam robot and an update to the source tree
WoW is not playable because it looks like garbage. The gameplay is shitty too. Doesn't matter what video card you use, you can't fix those flaws with hardware.
I couldn't get past the shitty graphics long enough to enjoy WoW. It looks like something older than the Quake 2 engine is putting out those frames on your old machine, and gameplay consists of endlessly running about. And getting clobbered by lag-cheaters. It actually runs "decently" on my friend's old PII-266, but the graphics are so crude it's difficult to watch for long.
I was referring to the H10, which will be available in a 20GB version early next year. And for the record, I wouldn't even consider an Apple after trying both products side by side. If sound quality were the only issue, nobody would own an iPod.
The H10 will come in 20GB next quarter. That pretty much guarantees my dollar, even if I have a huge bias against hard disk players in general. If it's in time, the iPod itself could be wiped out. And I find the radio essential, plus the recorder feature. My iRiver has the best recording ever.
Competition is a fantastic thing. People can stick with Windows, however having free, cross-platform apps saves me from OS-dependence in big ways. Why switch to Linx? I can think of a million reasons. I'd like to ditch my antivirus. That's almost like a million reasons all its own:) If my apps all worked (incl. MYOB, NewsBin, DVDshrink, dbPowerAmp, ActiveSync, VirtualDubMod, etc) I'd have switched when Ubuntu came out. I'd even run my stuff on WINE or Crossover Office if that worked. Remove Windows dependence, and people WILL leave Windows. Hell yes.
Apple is under no obligation to "allow it to continue," as you say, but they didn't have to go out of their way to prevent Harmony music from playing. The fact is that Apple deliberately took extra effort to ensure that interoperability with a competing product, a la Microsoft vs. DR-DOS, would NOT continue.
My take: Apple's little vendetta with Real Networks only affects those suckers who pay for crippled music, so it seems totally fair to me. If it affected ripped music, we would have a genuine problem. You may go about your business now.
I've been following the project for a while now, and Pocket PC is not even on the roadmap; Minimo is strictly *nix. Also, it requires a gigantic chunk of memory (min. 32MB) to run, and it's far from fast. There is absolutely no comparison to Opera. None. Mobile Opera is tiny (like 200k!!) and super-efficient, but only runs on smartphones right now. It looks like we have a chance of seeing Opera on the iPaq sooner than Minimo, even though Opera too doesn't care much for Pocket PC.
In the meantime, try NetFront 3.1 - it's sweet. But it doesn't work on 2003SE in landscape mode.
Well I for one am hoping that it's more multimedia-friendly than Ubuntu. And the new kernel probably will allow me to use my MP3 player as a universal mass storage device. A lot of people want these features, and XandrOS might provide 'em.. plus there's the CrossOver Office, which might allow decent book-keeping software to run. Hopefully.
they call it "a blow to copyright owners" but it's really just upholding the rights of innocent parties. Did Grokster infringe on copyrights? No. Do people use Grokster to infringe so? Of course. Liability has been decided in favour of Grokster et al, and the *AAs want to overturn the decision; obviously, the only way they can do that is by insisting (since it cannot be proven) that P2P has primarily evil purposes in mind. Intent, I believe, and also primary use, are considered.

I'd like to sue the pants off some of those artists. Joss Stone in particular would look good w/out pants.

OO.o:

Firefox (with installer):
Windows - 4803KB
Linux - 8422 KB
Thunderbird:
Windows - 5877 KB
Linux - 10113 KB

Ban competition and GOOSH, everybody's problem is solved!
Just CLICK on the EULA already dammit!!!

PS check out Blizzard's awesome screenshots here. Wow, so impressive. Check the weapons, character models, esp. the beast hands. Try to make out what kind of characters these are supposed to be. Nice. Gamespot is so gay.

Gamespot is out to lunch on this one.

iRiver will ship 1, 2 and 20GB units next quarter. It should be interesting, Apple's response included.
Differences:
H10 - 12 hours batt.
iPodMini - 8 hours
H10 - 5GB
iPodMini - 4GB
H10 - 1.5" TFT colour display. Gorgeous.
iPodMini - 1.67" grayscale LCD w/LED backlight
H10 - 95.5mm x 54.6mm x 15mm (96 grams)
iPodMini - 91mm x 51mm x 13mm (103 grams)
Except for size, the H10 wins. Plus it plays WMA, which is an advantage for a lot of people.
When the angels come, you'll be thankful.

Harmony fixes DRM'd songs. Harmony adds DRM to songs.
There is no overlap that I can see...

Opera has been ported to Linux, cell phones, PDAs and embedded devices. What platform is he refering to when he says Opera can't be ported to it?
mostly the ones that don't yet exist. Like UNIX for iPaq, and Mobile BeOS, and the Duke Nukem Forever Desktop.

NNTP == usenet
NNTP means "no need to pay"
