I recently read and interesting article in SCIAM proposing an alternative to the mysterious dark mater. He calls his theory MOND (Modification of Newtonian Dynamics) where he states that for extremely weak gravitational fields (a < 10E-5 m/s^2), F approaches ma^2. Apparently, his equation is able to explain the stability of may galaxies well without having to use dark matter. It remains to be seen whether his theroy will hold up to serious scrutiny but already, astronomers are using it to model galaxies (using it as a calculation technique instead of an actual law of nature). He has yet to incorporate it in relativity.

I went to ft.com (source of the article) and I got a error message saying I was using an unsupported browser!! How can Opera 6.0 not be supported? Lazy web developers!!
UI designers are by and large working for you, not against you
Then how do you explain Office XP? It seems that MS just decided to fill the toolbars and menu items with every conceivable thing obscuring the 5 or so features you actually used. The only thing I would like MS to add to Word is vi emulation.
Well, in Apache's defense, it does seem like a very trivial bug. If it were an IIS bug, it wouldn't even be worth mentioning.
This is one of the worst bugs to come out of the Apache SF in a while, look for an equivilent in IIS - when an HTTP 1.1 GET request is sent on Tuesdays, your server will blow up just after e-mailing your mother all of your porn.
Well, this is usually what we expect from MS but as the article points out, they don't own the chips, there is only so much they can reduce the costs. The console market being what it is, you wonder how long MS is willing to throw good money after bad until they reach the promised land. I'll say this though, their comercials still are cool (at least the ones I saw before I got my Tivo).
That sounds great and all and I've been on several projects where they've tried to do that (one manager told a developer to write a program that validates the coding style - dumbass) but when you bring in coders that have developed a certain way of doing things over 5 or 10 years, it is near impossible to get them to adopt some rigid standard. It would be like asking 10 different poets to write like e.e. cummings.
The best you can do is to ask the team to try and comment their code (of course, this means giving them time to do it) and make their stuff readable.
Unless you have advanced degrees in whole lot of subjects and a very large computer to run simulations on, you can really have no clue what kind of impact crater something with that much KE would make. Matter offten acts in non-intuitive ways when we are talking about that much energy (on the order of 1E14 J).
Do you think you can compare the impact of a bullet (slow, low mass) or meteor (not as slow, low density) with this proposed entity?
Measuring fluctuations in the Moon's size obviously tell you if it is solid or not but what about looking at the magnetic field. If the core of the Moon is liqued, then you wouldn't you see a large magnetic field from the free flowing ions in the core? That is what is responsible for the Earth's field.
No, if it were >= a constant, it would mean uncertainty could be infinite.
The principal states: err(momentum) * err(position) <= Plank's Constant / 4 * PI.
Plank's Constant, called h is often found divided by 2 * PI and the result is called h bar written as an h with a line through the top so the principal is usually written as:
Oh, TiVo, you are my dearest PVR.
You've allowed me to scrap my VCR.
I watch my shows on my time,
Not necessarily during prime time.
The networks claim I no longer watch their commercials
(I don't, TiVo has gotten me over those thirty second hurdles).
Turner, NBC, CBS and Fox all want to sue.
I guess their business models are all snafu.
They will hire their lawyers and file their briefs,
Tell the judge about their beefs.
The judge will ask "Do you remember Sony?"
They will reply "Yes, but now we're talking about real money."
"Yes, but this is about the copyright laws
not about your business flaws."
Things will go on as they are
Until everyone has a PVR.
Then the networks will no longer be free
And we will have to pay a lot more for Cable TV.
I guess I will continue to sing TiVo's praises
Until TV really starts to cut into my wages.
Well, just wait until the FCC gets involved then they'll either have to be content with listening to satellite radio or develop very tiny RJ-45 connectors.
Speaking of being torpedoed, the buyer should make the US navy aware of his purchase less the buyer be mistaken for a missile boat from a nation in the Axis of Evil.
Yep, both donkeys and elephants are equally adept at screwing us. Money is green no matter which side of the aisle you're sitting on.
I like it!
Well, if that doesn't work, give it away for personal/expiermental use. Charge for corporate use. Oracle does this, IBM does this with some products.
are some SiS 648 boards to hit the market so we can actually use the AGP 8x support.

I didn't notice any changes either. Hmmmm....
The first time I leanerd quantum mechanics, I didn't understant it.
The second time I learned quantum mechanics, I thought I understood it.
The third time I learned quantum mechanics, I knew I didn't understand it.
Anyway, here is a site where you can download an old version (7.0).

Don't these idiots know why it is called the web?? Damn fools.

You obviously didn't read their FAQ here

If you search E-bay for 'democracy', you will see votes on sell from Senator Hollings. Get 'em while they're hot!

Perl is great and all (I use it for quickies) but if I'm working on a project with 150,000 lines of code, I pray to god it's not Perl.
Just the opinion of another Java junkie.
