    the act of countering a takedown ultimately requires that the video's poster actually identify themselves, for the purpose of further legal discussion/action. Any anonymity is lost at that point.

    I bet we can repost those videos faster than they can have their lawyers write takedowns.

    I now vote only for the party that I actually want to be in power, consequences be damned.

    That might work if the politicians were limited in the scope of bills they could introduce by what they promised to do during the election. Did I have any idea that Steven Harper would run all over the world shouting about how great and wonderful Israel is, and how we'll support them no matter what crimes they commit? I don't even remember it being an election issue. I don't remember people asking him to bring us a DMCA either. Did he mention that he would throw billions of dollars away that were stolen from us in the softwood lumber dispute?

    They lie. We can expect these guys to behave the way they always have. Whatever they say during the election isn't the problem. It's what they don't say, but intend to do if they get a majority that frightens me.

    You don't have to contribute anything to gain karma. It's about standing out in the crowd.

    I live in the center of Canada, where I can't go one single day (even in off season) without someone attempting to talk to me about sports. I have no idea what the connection to hockey might be. Does slashdot sound too much like slapshot? Or is there another connection somewhere?

    Poping a 100G thumb flash (probably USB3) will probably tomorrow's way to record and swap around home records.

    I got a cheap deck for my car with a usb jack on it. It seems rediculous to fumble around with cd's when I can pop a 32GB flash stick in there full of MP3's.

    If only my divx player had a similar slot on it, I'd be rid of those damn discs forever.

    I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but the police departments here have two phone numbers: a non-emergency and an emergency.

    Where I live the non-emergency number varies depending what part of the city I am in.

    I once phoned the emergency number when I heard some people beating someone up in my back lane at around 2 AM. The guy was yelling "I can't see, I can't see!". The police arrived the next afternoon, and didn't even want to talk to me about what I had seen.

    I can't imagine what happens when you phone the non-emergency number.

    We don't know it is true. We are almost certain it was a story invented by the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to Washington.

    Another no no is to exhaust an air conditioner into a balcony enclosed with glass. I've seen that done, it's a great show as long as you are on a floor above, and park far far away.
