mnmn is right.. nasa's priorities have been out of whack for a while. working on these advanced technologies, while noble, shouldnt be the thrust of the research of the organization designed and forged under the premise of space exploration and investigation. Leave this stuff to the colleges and private sector, and build us a nifty spacamajigger.

isnt that the capitolist way? build something, charge for it, and then charge again to fix it since you hired the cheapest (read: crapiest) labor to build it in the first place. Get em coming and going. Whats wrong with that? Its just evil since your looking at it in the terms of viruses and attacking the world, but at the base of it, like I said, isnt it just capitolism in disguise?

theorhetically speaking, whouldn't it be more profitable to lord the release of the virus over people? to simply put it out there allows for other virus hunters to get samples and create a vaccine. However, if you threaten to release it unless you get money, there ya go. And then you can also charge for the vaccine, once you actually do release it. Cuz thats just smart. Yeah.

I can take it with me, recharge the batteries when I'm seditary and thats it. In the car, in the house, at work, on the move, its my walkman(s) (cd and standard tape/radio) that get me through. when I can buy a satelite radio walkman or hdWalkman, then things of this nature will really take off. I realize there are tech hurdles that keep this from happening, I just give it hope and time.

how exactly is that possible? its an interesting idea, but it doesnt seem feasible, given the crap quality of the mics in a cell phone that usually require a certain proximity to the source to pick up any good audio. So if the phone is on my belt clip, a good 2 feet from the mouth, thats not gonna help them pick up audio. if its in a purse, briefcase, or backpack, then it doesnt help them too much. those issues asside, how exactly can you turn on the microphone without the system power being on? how can you access the phone remotely, without knowing the status of the phone...

right... too late for sentient thought, mod me to hell; but I found this curious and would like to know the feasibility of such an occurence.

Wouldnt it be theorhetically possible to use the same technique that keeps dust out from the weel connectors on the current rover designs to protect the joints on an Aibo type walking rover?

I mean, I realize there are obviously alot of things that would need to be changed, but I see the platform itself, in that it has balance mechanisms and enough of a basic sensor array to know where itself lies relative to space (how else is it able to sit up and walk around, it has to know its feet are above the floor somehow).

I also see it as an opprotunity to encourage people to make the most of consumer-available technology. I may not have access to the multi-million dollar rovers that NASA and the ESA have, but Aibos are relatively easy to get your hands on. Adding sensors and other computing power does not have to be integrated into the bot itself, but structurally seperate addons.

I hope someone can give me a really good reason why development of this sort isnt feasible, beyond dust, which can and have been overcome (i.e. the current rovers).
