I have a very small lawn (and a son). But I don't go around moaning that they should stop making better lawnmowers.
You must have meant
I have a very small lawn (and a kid). But I don't go around moaning that they should stop making better lawnmowers.
That makes sense, because goats eat grass. (Yes, I know you just saw the letters g-o-a-t-s-e in succession, but get past that and see that this is a very funny joke that never was.)
plus, Windows is getty prettier and pretter and is including more and more built-in abilities like DVD burning, picture-viewing, internet games, and other junk that Macs have.
Orange is a telecommunications company in Asia. The make a cell phone that uses Microsoft software.
Apple Telecommunications is a telecommunications company in Asia. They were named Apple to emphasize they are competing against Orange. Apple Computers has scared Apple Telecommunications into changing their name to Green.
The weird part is, both Apples compete against the other set!
Apple Computers, although a partner with Microsoft, competes against it. Green compets with Orange. Today, we learn that a) the Microsoft/Orange set is working together, and b) the Apple/Apple(Green) bunch is disputing.
Weird, huh?
The next article posted today will say that Green is now being sold to Orange, a much larger company and partner of Microsoft--for the best revenge against Apple.
What he said was REALITY. But, even in THEORY individual employees don't matter, as the people running the company who give you jobs have all the clout.
Two solutions exist.
If any individual employees want some control/respect/influence, speak up. Sitting there won't do anything.
OR
Start your company.
If you want to stay the way you are, that's a third option. But it seems you don't like the way you are but don't want change. You want the business to change around you.
Never mind that of the small percentage of business that end up being successful, these are the ones that didn't throw their money around but instead invested their money into employees wisely, knowing the best deal with finding tech people. If you don't like that they can do that, do something about it!!!!! Make a union, do something.
After all, doing something is what your company's founders did in the first place. They are the ones who made a successful business, successful to know to pay $$$$$$$$$$$ to executives and $ to developers. Why? WELL WHY NOT if it helps them be successful????
Now obviously a company can't do much without developers if that's their business. To fight the oppression, you need unions. As long as a portion of group keeps accepting this, we will all have to accept this.
The (secretaries? of the) governor, state house speaker, and state senate speaker (not the U.S. Congress speakers, the state speakers) have confirmed they are interested in meeting with a small group I'm in, but we will see if they show up. Any answers pertinent to the Microsoft appeal, I'll post in my journal by mid-December.
(BTW, Romney was invited, the governor-elect, not Swift. I forgot they hadn't switched yet.. As such, he could easily say he doesn't know enough about the case to comment. Oh well if they show up and answer, I'll post in the journal.) Thx for your interest.
And shaking hands isn't nice... although it takes courage to do it all day.... However, it's a horrible way to judge him...
But heck, if it works it works, right! You meet him for 10 seconds, shake hands, and now you feel you know him so you post on slashdot. Wow.
So if I shake hands with 1,000 geeks, there's a chance some will be on slashdot. And they will tell all I am nice (to brag about 'meeting' me). Isn't that great!! I gotta remember that one...
Massachusetts -- Home to MIT, Harvard, Cambridge, Amherst, Boston College, Boston University, and public ones like the University of Mass. Amherst and Lowell and Dartmouth, and community colleges, too.
Doesn't Microsoft donate $$$ to MIT? Yes. Heck, MIT even has the state in its name....
Anyway, there was a question on the recent elections ballot to eliminate all earnings tax... it did not pass. I think Rilley was putting off the announcement to know if they'd lose some resources or not (like earnings tax.)
And yes, I think it's all political.
Speaking of which, I might get a chance to ask the governor, speaker of the state house and speaker of the state senate some questions, and if you guys can think of some way to ask about this issue WHILE relating it to the economy of Massachusetts, I'll post the answers the second time this story is posted on Slashdot (unless it's a dupe within a short time frame from now.)
Tablets, with the much bigger screens, will get tons more complaints from 10 to 20 percent of its users than PDA's do.
What complaint? THE SCROLL BARS ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE! IF YOU'RE LEFT HANDED, and you're writing or drawing, it will (is) a pain to scroll because your left hand blocks the action! And how many times do you scroll? I know that PDA's have smaller screens and that I can and do use the up/down buttons, but scrolling would be fun sometimes.:/
Trademarks like ASPIRIN and ESCALATOR are no longer trademarks because people begun calling those types of products by their trademark. ESCALATOR could still be a real trademark if people were told to call it ESCALATOR BRAND moving stairway. Since people say WINDOWS when they mean OPERATING SYSTEM, Windows is generic like the court says! Remember, Asprin and Escalator used to dominate the whole market so NOT using their name was hard... But the terms died!
This is a HUGE win. I wonder if Microsoft will keep pursuing this to higher courts to be told that their trademark is still generic? That's a big risk, and they may or may not.
However, they are showing they are Enforcing their trademark, which is a good way to demonstrate that they care about the trademark. Still, they might fall to something else..
WHY????? Here's the scoop: If a court declares a trademark to be generic, then it is closer to its death.
It is very simple. Trademarks like ROLLERBLADE could go to genocide when people keep saying "I'm gonna go rollerblading." That's why ROLLERBLADE has been putting ads to remind consumers these are ROLLERBLADE BRAND In-Line Skates.
when people refer to those types of products by the trademark name
then it stands to become generic. I suspect the way it happens is through courts.... That's why I suspect Microsoft might not pursue the generic argument in higher courts;) And if it doesn't, maybe the ruling stands that it is generic!
So, the term Windows is now generic. YOU CAN USE IT FREELY. Microsoft used the term Windows, which is like generic already especially in windowed operating systems. However, its biggest death is that Microsoft did not use the term "Windows Operating System."
A LOT of people talk about Windows when they should be saying "Operating System(s)". Hence, Windows IS generic like the court says. THATS Why the court said it's generic, not because Windows are real glass things in real life...
Like many articles have previously stated, people try to cheat Google. That's why the staff at Google has to spend a lot of their resources keeping links relevant.
1) the evidence used are screen shots (can be faked) 2) the file names could be misleading (i.e., the file's contents not illegal) 3) which family member used the computer?
Basically, they are saying pay us $60 bucks. Otherwise, they will take you to court.
However, if they take you to court, you might win!
This is like me sending random letters asking to be PayPal'd or expect to see me in court! If people comply... well then thanks!
Which by the way would be like holding people up for ransom?
If you guys are interested in Tablet PC's, here's a link I came across accidentally yesterday. Fujitsu's new Tablet PC. It's not like the 'detachable screen from the laptop' type.
Instead, it's a stand-alone tablet that you carry with you and use with a pen. HOWEVER, there are 3-USB-port desktop stations that you just put the Tablet into, and voila--a desktop system with a real keyboard and mouse attached. The tablet becomes the monitor--WHICH YOU CAN TILT to view in LANDSCAPE or regular view! And adjust these settings straight with one button presses straight on the TABLET, so you can easily make the tablet LANDSCAPE even without using the desktop configurator.
Also, at the end of the video, the Fujitsu guy says you can take the keyboard along instead of the whole desktop system if you're going on the road. I don't know if the keyboard plugs into that Tablet PC (didn't sound like it at the beginning of the vid.), but what you do is probably plug the keyboard straight into the tablet versus the desktop station.
All in all, pretty nifty. BUT THERE ARE PROBLEMS: IT doesn't look like it is comfortable to hold because there aren't grips for the hands on the sides (I'm pretty sure this is the fact.) And, holding the Tablet with your right hand to write with your left you could end up pressing those screen layout buttons I just described. And of course, the cord for the pen better be long enough for comfortable LEFT-HANDED use!
Also, the scroll bars BETTER BE ABLE TO BE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN for us left-handers.
This is a good video sponsored by IBM but about Fujitsu and CNET's 5 minute demo video/interview. It seems to be more of a MARKETING video rather than an interview, but addresses the major questions a TABLET PC newbie could have!
We can spell!
at least I can secure a first post

I speak for the masses. Now move along.
I read that idea here on Slashdot about the time I registered (maybe half a year ago?)
It was to have a penny or whatnot attached to each message and with a white list also available.

very nice article

Sorry about that. I got my facts about Orange being from Asia... from a slashdot post about Apple suing Apple. I should have known better :/
I was serious.
Orange is a telecommunications company in Asia. The make a cell phone that uses Microsoft software.

Step 4, if there is a step four, is profit.

Maybe because nobody cared?

GEEZUS WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE ADDRESS THIS!!!!!
Aspirin was a trademark
Yes. That's why I said:
Trademarks like ASPIRIN and ESCALATOR are no longer trademarks
"Water is great, but selling water might not be."
Yes, I have a feeling all those companies with soda, juice, and bottled water brands are crazy.

How can we check? Why not see what Google is made to believe! A special web site, Googlism, shows just what Google thinks of Slashdot.
Example: Possibly true thing:
#3 slashdot is a plot by microsoft to destroy the productivity of linux users
Example: UNTRUE thing:
#35 slashdot is nothing but 12 links to new things every day
considering that 85% of young adult Americans don't know where Iraq is

I think two of the buttons in the end (blue and orange) say "WHAT'S A LEONARD NIMOY?"
click
1) the evidence used are screen shots (can be faked)
2) the file names could be misleading (i.e., the file's contents not illegal)

Another reason to move our other 2 moons nearer--more tides, more electricity!
