Sony "would never segregate or shut out any of our consumers from our entertainment experience because they didn't buy the top of the line system."
I think you just did Sony. I sure as heck can't afford your console and, seeing that I've bought multiple PSX and PS2 systems (mainly because your hardware is garbage and dies after a few years of use) which definitely qualifies me as one of your consumers, you've pretty much "shut out" or alienated me. I much prefer MS's approach. Although I prefer Nintendo's the most. Keep it simple, keep it a console, offer something intriguing and new.
How'd this get marked troll? This is dead on my opinion. Half Life 2 was pure brilliance. Beautiful, great story and depth. Halo is severely overrated. It's this generations Goldeneye, which was also overrated. Call me sometime next year when there's a good shooter on the Wii, the only viable console to play a shooter on.
Not only did FF VII do nothing to advance storytelling in gaming, it set back the genre at the same time. It shifted the emphasis from imagination and open ended interpretation to tunnel visioned fmv popcorn flicks. One of the appeals of RPGs to many early players was that the story could be interepreted as they wanted. Most present RPG's play out like a movie and try to hard to explain things that should be left to the imagination. I think there's a place for both types but, unforutnately the old skool RPG is all but dead. I have to play games such as Oblivion to get my fix these days.
The tennis game sucks, though. You don't control the movement of the character, only the swinging of the racket. And even then, all you have to do is flick your wrist for a power strike.
Would you rather see a lot of games with shoddy online support or would you like Nintendo to iron out their system first and then provide developers with proper kits? Unlike Sony, Nintendo isn't a clusterfuck and wants to see a standard implementation that works across the board.
This is probably the main reason Smash Bro's is pushed to 07...they want to iron out their network issues themselves before making other developers waste their time figuring out the quirks.
I wasn't even bringing money into the equation. I was more or less talking about making freeware games for Linux. Unless you're a die hard Linux user who wants to provide something to the community or try and get more people to try out Linux, your goal is to have as many people play your game as possible. I'd publish my freeware game on Windows rather than Linux just because I'd want as many people as possible play something I put my sweat and tears into.
How do you figure this? Nintendo just came out with a new Tetris game for the DS earlier this year. And Nintendo can most definitely release their versions of Tetris and Tetris Attack on the virtual console...
Nope, Wii Play will be out next year. It's a collection of shooting / mini games. Personally, I think it would have been a much better pack in than Wii Sports (seeing that the only game on Wii Sports that is appealing to me is bowling), but I'll take what I can get.
And you know what? They're probably wasting their time. The people who are interested in indie games are going to be gaming hobbiests who are gonna have a closet full of consoles and a Windows machine. There's the techie/computer nerd crossover, but even the majority of that crowd doesn't use linux.
Gaming on Linux sucks because users need a reason to switch to Linux first to make it a viable platform. OSX is a success and it still sucks for gaming, why should Linux be any better? "Because it's free and open source and you should support open source" isn't really an answer...
Oh, well, I was just listing DVD capable playing equipment. Don't forget about the cable box, replay tv, surround sound setup, gamecube (soon to be replaced by a Wii), an SNES and NES, and an svideo cable reserved for laptop use at all times. I think that's it? Unfortunately the Saturn and Dreamcast can only come out to play on special occasions....
For not charging me for things I don't need. While I doubt the licensing fee and software price per unit is negligible at this point, let me count how many DVD players I have connected to my tv right now: 1 7-disc player 1 DIVX dvd player 1 PS2
-and- 1 XBOX
Wow, I never thought about it until now, but I could play Zaireeka in my livingroom!
Woman, not word. If it was a Dutch word it wouldn't count to begin with (else everyone and their mom would use Russian for those tripple word scores using nothing but Z's and X's).
Seanbaby has no room to talk, his attempts at comedy are just as pathetic as Uwe Bol's attempts are at making video game movies.
Really, do we need to give this kid anymore attention. If you feel the need to point out "you're just jealous," damn right I'm just jealous. I wish I could get great gigs by making god aweful ugly webpages and having no comedic talent at all.
Cabin Fever was a terrific movie, people just were confused about what the movie was going to be going into it. Peter Jackson's quote was off kilter, but as a whole Cabin Fever was a good exercise in how to create a comedic horror flick. In this sense, it was probably the best entry in the genre sense the Evil Dead films.
Peter Jackson isn't behind it, he's "co-executive producer" which pretty much means he was like "Wow, I like Halo...awesome, let me attach my name to this movie." It's not like he's directing it or had anything to do with the screenplay.
Except for the fact that you can't destroy Nintendo. They're the number one game company in the world, selling more copies of games than any other company out there. People will always buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo first party games and Nintendo will always be sensible enough with their consoles to makes sure they, at very least, break even on production costs.
I could give a crap about Sony. They're the Japanese equivalent to MS. No better, no worse.
Here's hoping MS pulls this one off. As much as I dislike MS, at least they're grounded in reality unlike Sony these days. Maybe some (hopefully) good competition from MS might make Sony reconsider their attitude for a while. I'll always be a Nintendo fan at heart, but I'm also realistic. As sucessful as the Wii might be, I'll still want a 360 or PS3 to games that just aren't geared for that system.

How can something be dominating when it has no competition? When the PS3 and Wii are released, then let the speculation begin?

Great Scots!
I'm sure that Kaz is glad that someones buying into his hype.

Actually, I spent the extra $2.99 for a used one, but point taken. I'd forgotten about the xbox not being an "out of box" dvd player.

I can name that DRM in 3 notes, Jim.

Bah, tired of trying to figure out how to turn it into a relevant joke, so I'll just come out and say it: "It's NOT a TUUUUMAH!"

Just key thread the crank.
