My heart goes out to those that perished and their families. I remember watching Columbia's first flight in April 1981 with John Young and Robert Crippen. Space travel was always a passion of mine.
I'm sitting here wondering if this may cause the US government and NASA to finally commit to a next generation shuttle craft. I was highly disappointed that the Venture Star program (X-33) was cancelled mainly because they couldn't build the fuel tanks properly. There is a lot of good tech their that could go into a Next Gen Shuttle. I hope they give it new consideration.

Well, I won't bitch too much but the PX isn't the benefit it is made out to be. Everything has no sales tax (and that of course is a good thing) but Walmart would still beat their prices. The Commisary is tax free too but you still have to pay a surcharge which is used to pay commisary expenses and upgrades. Also, there are many states that have no sales taxes on groceries to begin with.
Let see, what else, oh, you get to be separated from your family for months, if not years at a time. You DO NOT have a choice in how you spend your day. You don't get fired for screwing up, nope, you get confinement or demotion or worse. Let's not forget getting shot at if you go into a conflict. Then let's say you get peace keeping duty (oh joy, lets goto Kosovo where everyone hates us). Cops get shot at too and have much better pay and benefits than Military and they deserve it IMO.
As for job protectionism, you obviously didn't hear about the drawdown in the 90's under Clinton did you (in fairness, it started under Bush). Thousands of troops lost their jobs. It was just fortunate that the economy was in good shape at the time. Now take all that and go live in pre Korean war barracks or family housing with the roaches. Oh, you live in a high income area? Go find a house without a Cost Of Living Allowance.
Look, the Military ain't doing too bad but I certainly didn't do it for the money and the Men and Women in there now most certainly are not now. Many are thankful just to have a job. Of course then there are the reservist and national guard guys that the President called up. I bet you didn't realize that they have to give up their civilian income while they are gone. Hows that for F'ed up.
So halftrack, since you're Norwegian, why don't you explain this process to us Americans. Appealing aquittals is just not done in the US because of the Double Jepordy clause in the Constitution. Can Norwegian prosecutors simply hound this kid until they get their way?
I was very surprised to see that they are actually going to appeal and aquittal for this kid. You don't see this in the US since such an appeal is not allowed under the Constitution. In the US, sometimes prosecutors try charging the person with another crime that was related to the original one but that doesn't work very often.
For instance, after the LA cops were aquitted of beating Rodney King, the US District Attorney's office stepped up and charged the cops with violating King's civil rights. I don't remember if they were convicted or if they settled, but the cops did do jail time.
But that's just an example of how things are done here.

This occured near the intersection of route 121 and Main in The Colony, TX. The plane landed near the edge of a golf course just into the trees. The BRS apparently work flawlessless as the guy walked away from the site. From the pictures I saw on the news, the plane looked salvagable too. I had no idea this was the first use of the BRS on something other than an ultralight. I figured the guy would at least have a broken leg (many BRS survivors have something broken because there isn't much protection in an Ultralight) but he walked away with just a few scratches.
Xbox.com says they don't support Debit and mine didn't work. I called XBox support and eventually had to use my credit card. So yea, they are having problems with Debit cards. There are a few people on planetXbox forums complaining about debit cards too.
Servers, Servers, Servers............
They are hosting ALL of the games on THEIR servers. That and a profit for Microsoft is what you are paying for. Compared for on line service for EACH game like you will on PS2 it's not too bad IMO.
I got an XBox back in December as a gift. I was very happy with games like Halo and Max Payne but little else for XBox was very good. Friday however, I bought XBox live with Ghost Recon and Mech Assault. I am happy now that I didn't sell my XBox like I was tempted to last summer. Ghost Recon was an outstanding game to begin with on PC but now that I have a video card that can do it justice it look INCREDIBLE. I liked the logical layout of controls too. Mech Assault was more of the same. The controls are over simplified compaired to PC Mech games but that doesn't detract from the game. In fact I found that it made it even better. Mech Assault is by far the best of all the XBox Live games.
The only negative things I can say about XBox Live is the setup. I find it stupid that they only support a few different gateway routers. Mine is not supported. I was lucky that the XBox website had a good workaround for my particular router (Netgear RT314). It's also stupid that XBox live doesn't support Visa or MasterCard DEBIT cards. I mean, WTF, it's a goddamn credit/debit card and you can't support it. That was very short sighted. Lastly, I didn't see a function to boot players from a game. That is needed IMO because in Ghost Recon, when beginning an XBox Live mission, everyone has to show themselves as READY before the game can begin. One person not showing as ready will keep the game from starting. So if he's AFK or just being a dick, we are all SOL. They need to fix that.
Why should a people trust their government if their government does not trust them?
I am a pretty conservative person politically speaking but I am also a defender of liberty. The founding fathers didn't trust one another, that is why they created such a complicated system of checks and balances in our Constitution. Allowing any part of our government to have such power will most certainly corrupt it (yea, I know it's corrupt already). There is to much potential for abuse here. Even if we were to trust the current administration (and I understand that many of you do not) it does not hold that the next administration will not abuse such power. Nixon has an enemies list. Clinton had FBI information on Republicans in the White House. Who knows what else has been done that we just don't know about.
I don't know, I've had Sprint for 5 years and really haven't had any problems with it. I drive from Dallas to Monroe, LA all the time and never lose my connection there. The only dead spot is around the DFW airport but they are supposedly building some new towers in that area. I'm thinking it might finally be time to upgrade.
Just mkdir ~/.fonts and copy your TrueType fonts in there. WHAMMO, instant MS fonts.
Still though, I'm trying to get Mozilla looking better. Makes my website look like it got up on the wrong side of the bed.

If you have to market your product by tearing down another product, then your product must not be worth much. He's still right.

Actually I was talking about the Best Buy ad that the parent was talking about.
I wonder how much RedHat had to pay for that? I doubt it was free.

You sound like someone that didn't get PAID...or was it LAID?
How can we as the people ever trust a govenment that obviously does not trust us?
I'm sure that phone number will be disconnected by the end of the day....
I'm in the same boat, I bought the 5500 just a couple of months ago. At least I only paid $330 for it. Still, it's one bad ass little mofo.

Besides, how many JoeSixPacks know that Slashdot even exist. There are perhaps a few but not enough.
I'm just curious as to the Mods thinking here?
