    A long time ago, a Dell desktop power supply failed. The power supply had a unusual shape, so only a Dell power supply would fit. Dell charged $200 for the supply.

    Recently, we've been buying very reliable supplies for $30.

    To me, Avaya seems badly managed. The Avaya web site home page is topped with useless pictures. The Avaya Product page was apparently written by someone with no technical knowledge. There are useless photos at the bottom.

    How it happens: Managers with no technical knowledge believe they can buy contracts for technology development. Technology companies know they can say anything and it will usually be accepted.

    Another example of an ignorant manager assuming it is possible to manage technology without knowing anything about technology: Price for Failed Obamacare Website: $394 Million and Counting.

    Former U.S. President Barack Obama often acts like a knowledgeable leader even when the depth of his knowledge is extremely shallow.

    Microsoft top managers decided to try to force everyone who isn't technically knowledgeable to move to the Windows 10 operating system so that Microsoft could offer "Apps", like the Android and Apple cell phone systems.

    Microsoft ignored the fact that trying to sell "Apps" when people have work to do on their computers is not appropriate.

    Windows 10 tries to force Microsoft's control, imitating the cell phone companies that, more and more, take control away from the customer and user.

    That acted as extremely effective negative advertising. Almost every technically knowledgeable person is now aware of what they consider extreme abuse.

    In my opinion, the negative advertising damages Microsoft and indicates that Microsoft top managers are not competent.

    It amazes me that Facebook and Google and Microsoft and Adobe Systems believe they can use most people's ignorance of technology to abuse customers.

    Another story: "The sale of Instagram to Facebook for a cool billion in the spring of 2012 was the ultimate Silicon Valley fairy tale: 18 months from launch to offer.".

    Another quote: "The offer was even more impressive given Instagram's size and age. At the time, it had just 13 employees, operating out of a cramped space in the South Park section of San Francisco."

    How does such a manager determine that people he or she hired have technical knowledge, when he or she has no technical knowledge?

    Doesn't seem logical to me. You can't evaluate people for something you yourself don't understand.

  14. James Clapper lied about U.S. cybersecurity. James Clapper is the U.S. Director of National Intelligence. He resigned.

    Two big issues:

    1) If he feels comfortable lying, can anything he says be considered to be reliable?

    2) He is 75 years old. Photos of him give the impression he is extremely conflicted. (See the resignation story.) Does he have any technical knowledge?

    There is the possibility that everything that has been said is manipulated nonsense. Apparently NONE of the authors of the stories have investigated the depth of technical knowledge of ANYONE. There is no depth to any of the stories.

    But our lack of ability in life didn't stop us from making a wacky new computer language!

    PowerShell is badly designed and badly documented. But that's okay, because people in the U.S. government don't have technical knowledge and the help-the-rich-get-richer U.S. government no longer cares about regulating virtual monopolies.

    The U.S. government has many secret and semi-secret agencies. No one, literally no one, knows all of them, or which are badly managed. As we've seen, the secret and semi-secret U.S. government agencies often hire outside consulting companies that often have areas of sloppy management.

    The U.S. government is, by some measures, such as money spent, the most violent in the world.

    The U.S. government has killed, or caused the death of, an estimated 11,000,000 people since the end of the 2nd world war.

    War is extremely profitable for some corporations. See the book, House of Bush, House of Saud, by Craig Unger. Bush and Cheney started a war that was profitable for them.

    The U.S. has the largest percentage of its citizens in prison, of any country, in any century. The prison system is hugely profitable for prison corporations. Two of the many articles:

    ACLU: With only 5% of the world's population, the U.S. has 25% of the world's prison population.

    I think Microsoft has no competent top-level managers. It appears to me that Satya Nadella was chosen to be CEO because he was less annoying than the other candidates who were considered. Nadella doesn't seem to have the immense social and technology skills that are required for running a huge technology organization.

    Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was called Monkey Boy on the cover of BusinessWeek Magazine. He appeared to have little or no technical knowledge. He appeared to have no interest in learning.

    Because Microsoft has a virtual monopoly, it is easy to make money. (Apple charges 3 to 5 times more, and has only 7.4% of PC computer sales.)

    Also, in all the developed countries, women in the U.S. are the least happy. (I've done a lot of research about that.) Any experimental test is affected by their unhappiness. Although women in the U.S. commonly blame men, much of their unhappiness is because of the way they live, not because of men.
