Ahhhh noooo. Supporting Open Source is not the same as supporting COMMUNISM.
Open Source is a motivating factor while true communism suppresses individual motivations and achievements.
TCPA / Palladium will also make it much harder for you to run unlicensed software. Pirate software can be detected and deleted remotely. It will also make it easier for people to rent software rather than buying it; and if you stop paying the rent, then not only does the software stop working but so may the files it created. For years, Bill Gates has dreamed of finding a way to make the Chinese pay for software: Palladium could be the answer to his prayer.
The idea that my computer is opened up for vendors to do audits on my software is appalling.
I say NO THANKS!
HEY! Get a clue! The issue isn't whether ATi can compete speedwise! The issue is whether or not ATi will ever produce decent drivers.
NVidia has a few things going for it. They make great hardware AND they make the industries best drivers.
Maybe you would like our country to be defenseless in a time in which several countries are on the verge of becoming Nuclear Powers and/or acquiring Biological threats?
Maybe we do spend more on Defense than we need to. But I would prefer that the cuts in defense go to help THIS country - like perhaps in feeding our own hungry - or helping with education.
Love it or leave it you asshole. You don't deserve to live in this country. Your lack of respect for the lives of those who died to help secure the freedoms you enjoy is fucking appaling you jackass.
Nothing belittling about the joke?
Oh come on now! "Invade Iraq to keep Approval Rating High'? That is clearly a cheap shot at the Bush Administration.
Embedded Linux is less rare than you might think. I work in the Casino game industry and there are several game manufacturers that are using Linux as the platform for new games.
Hmmm, I know I shouldn't be feeding the trolls,
but, I've never had such a problem with Linux.
I'd make some comment about why you'd be installing Emacs, but whatever floats your boat.
ATI drivers typically *suck* in comparison to NVidia drivers. I don't really care if I don't get source code for NVidia drivers - they have *always* worked for me - whereas ATI drivers have *always* had some problems.
So the ATI way is to have drivers work on every machine, easily, but you can almost be sure that you will have issues on every machine also.
Now the NVidia drivers may be a bit harder to install *properly*, but when done - they just work properly.
Oh for crying out loud! GET OVER IT! Bush won the election for and square.
He was not appointed - all the votes got counted. Too bad you whiny liberals can't seem to understand this.
Also, recount after recount of the votes AFTER the election confirm that indeed, Bush won the election.

No actually, I was pointing out another case in which MS chose to produce a tool/app that would only run on its OS.
What MS has done with.NET does not, taken by itself, mean that MS is anti-competive. But it *IS* another data point in support of that conclusion.

Well, I was mislead by the New York Times into believing that.NET apps could only be run/hosted on Windows OS.
You don't understand who/what I consider is anti-competitive? I believe I made that very clear -- Microsoft. I said nothing about Apple or Java.
I don't believe I need to list all the companies who are anti-competitive just because I list one that I believe to be so.
Now go back to reading "The Road Ahead" or "Hard Drive" now. Next weeks sermon will be based on chapter 6 of "The Road Ahead".

The biggest problem I see with.NET is that the apps that get created with it will only run on Windows servers.
This is yet another example of Microsoft unfairly stiffling competition because not only does it create the most widely used OS, they can also create applications that only work on it OS's.
I would bet that other software development firms will never have the kind of intimate knowledge of the Windows OS internals the way the MS App developers do.

How is my post flamebait? I simply give one example of some of the disgusting stuff the ACLU defends. Some moderator a member of NAMBLA?
One word, "NAMBLA". Reason enough to be disgusted with the ACLU.

But you can't accept that can you? Guns don't kill people, people kill people right?
Damn straight!
They could lose money on game sales, directly or indirectly, if a sizeable group of people buy X Boxes and play only MAME games.

Last time I checked Linux supports a much wider range of hardware than FreeBSD. To me that makes Linux very appealing.
